i actually think it's scary that we seem to be forgetting what regular human beings look like and that in some cases it's being deliberately accelerated by incels and their esoteric mythology of appearance now that they have the cultural microphone. it's scary that i can watch a movie from like 1991 and be like "oh if this woman was cast as a leading lady today it'd be a culture war outrage session about ugly women being shoved in our faces"
this particular example makes me so sad bc I can tell you firsthand I've had to explain to multiple cisgender men that they're not freaks for having gynecomastia and that it's actually extremely common. like it is so common that about half of all cis men experience it at some point over the course of their life. but we're so fixated on these imaginary and increasingly impossible ideals that we convince ourselves normal variations in human anatomy are rare freak differences that need to be changed to fit that ideal. obviously this hits women way more than men but in general it's like we're all tricking ourselves into a reality that doesn't exist and demanding it of each other. this crabs in a bucket shit is especially dire.

I don't understand why animals that are not supposed to be pets have such soft fur. Like. If we aren't allowed to keep squirrels as pets then their fur should be rough and gross like a polar bear's
The key to writing good fanfiction is to harbor a deeply humiliating desire, and the trick there is that even pretty basic and societally-accepted desires like “being held” and “being wanted” CAN and WILL be humiliating if they’re intense enough. Become so estranged from human connection that the idea of someone playing with your hair fills you with yearning so deep you feel like you’re going to throw up and you will write some banger fanfiction. It might have some other consequences too but idrk about that.
It really is just exhausting watching the image of ukraine in the public imagination very slowly turn for the worse and knowing that in 2, 3, even 5 years time at worse those western artists and fandomites with 🇵🇸🇺🇦 in bio will be pretending to have always been against the genocide in donbass without a single moments acknowledgement of the utter incoherence of their ideology, the harm they cause now to legitimise this nazi regime, the people they allow to die while calling you "russian bot" for speaking out about it.
