What has always been so personal and beautiful to me about Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is that the book seemed like an avenue to speak about religious doubt and anger. The Creature calls out to Frankenstein, asking why he was created, why he was abandoned, and why he must walk alone. To me, this a mirror to how we as humanity cry out to the sky, asking God why we are here, why he has abandoned us, why we suffer, and why we must walk alone. In life, we get silent clouds as the answer. In the book, the Creature doesn't get an answer either. A beautiful thing about Frankenstein (2025) is that he does get an answer, he gets to reconcile with his creator, and he hears an apology.
I don't know who the paintings are by, unfortunately
i understand that some book fans have problems with gdt’s frankenstein but i literally couldn’t care less about the diversions from the book when the public perception of this story has been defined by the fuckass 1931 movie for the past 90 years (love u boris karloff but that movie just pisses me off) which barely even attempts to be faithful to the book. like this is already leagues above that and i’ll take it if it means the general public will stop thinking about the creature as this thoughtless killing machine
