Unironically, Prillya has some of the best out of context moments in the entire franchise despite 2010s Silver Link being (for lack of a better term) like that™.

The worst part is that the main offender is mostly 2wei. The first season and 2wei Herz (mostly on Caren and Bazett stealing a lot of screentime) aren't nearly as bad and 3rei onward is basically just inoffensive; heck, Oath Under Snow is just a dead-serious movie.

Like, there's 4 seasons, two movies and a bunch of OVAs and quite a bit of it is good. Obviously folk's mileage may vary though....

Okay! I said I was going to write up all of my findings on the sources of the Fodlan names, and I’m gonna do it! Apologies to anyone who may have already done this.

I’m going to sort this by country/continent. If anyone knows a more plausible etymology for one of these names please let me know, most of these were found through basic Google searches so I’m likely missing a lot, especially since a LOT of these names vary a bit from their sources and I only caught some of the changed ones because I was already familiar with the original. I’ll also be updating this as time goes on since I also want to cover the noble surnames that aren’t on the map.

thank you so much!! i tried making one myself a few weeks ago, but i got burned out with a lot of the names. i cross-referenced the old map from the trailer two years ago because there were some changes, but overall, yours looks great! (funnily enough, the original spellings are much more faithful to the source material)

i have a few suggestions for the ones you got stuck on. some of the names don’t have to be mythological references, so i branched out into different sources of etymology (e.g. nuvelle is likely just a bastardization of the french word nouvelle, meaning new)

how to read the post:

Gideon -> Gideon? (Gwydion) spelling from the 2.13 direct -> possible reference (spelling from the first trailer) ? = i’m not sure

also long so it’s under the cut, but i took out the duplicate names that you pretty much got right on the money

i love fakir so much. he's traumatized by a fanfic he wrote when he was 4. he's directly related to the series' main antagonist. he rides a horse around school and rips his clothes because he thinks it makes him look cool (it does). he's been in a custody battle with a homeless girl for 10 years over a fiction character. he does ballet because of said custody battle. he brings his toddler sister to school so she can collect gossip for him. he was framed for public attempted murder and his only punishment was suspension from school??? he has one of the best enemies to lovers storylines of all time with a bird. he is god.
