SPIDERSONA :D

This is Marionette! On top of the standard spider powers (web slinging, spider sense, proportional speed/strength, etc.) she can use excess spider silk from her scarf like puppet strings to control various objects… and sometimes people. But she doesn’t like doing that very often. Maybe because it’s more puppeteer-y than spidery? lol

The scarf is sticky like spider silk, which is helpful sometimes and inconvenient other times. Especially during combat. Marionette prefers reconnaissance anyway.

I spent 2018 in my first apartment - my first full year moved out! It was a good experience overall but I think that, like for many people, life was pretty rough on me. I didn’t have a lot of art juice to spare… but I did manage to draw something every month, whether it was a digital piece or jotting down stuff in my sketchbook (I didn’t really post any of the sketchbook stuff though). I’m thankful for Art Fight and FebruarOC for giving me something to focus on amidst my other challenges in life. Things started to turn for the better toward the end of the year, too, so I hope to carry that energy on through 2019.

I think this year I was allergic to colors that weren’t Pink/Blue or Red/Yellow. XD There’s some pieces with green in them but they either weren’t finished or didn’t turn out as well as other ones from that month. At least purple and orange showed up as byproducts!

attention commissioners!

With the hustle and bustle of starting my new job, I unfortunately had to put commissions on hold for a bit! Now that my schedule is consistent and I’m used to my hours, I have time blocked out after my shifts that I can devote to the commissions I still have in my queue.

If you’re still waiting for your artwork, I apologize deeply for the lack of communication! I did not forget about your commission, and still intend on finishing them all; I have a spreadsheet I use to keep track of who’s commissioned me and for what, etc. so don’t worry :)

I will send emails tonight to those that still have drawings in progress, and reminders to those that I’m waiting on a confirmation that they received their finished pieces.

I won’t be taking new commissions until I finish the ones that I have, so I can focus on getting those done. I don’t know when I’ll reopen them but when I do I’ll probably go back to slots with fixed payment amounts rather than the PWYW sale since I’m not scrambling to make student loan payments anymore.

Thanks everyone, especially you commissioners! You’ve helped me stay afloat while I was looking for my first-ever steady job and I am very grateful for the support <3

$20/PWYW commissions!

Hey guys! Job search keeps improving and things are looking up, but I still need some quick money for student loan payments. tl;dr a check I’ve been expecting is late and I need to make up the difference 8′D So I’m bringing up this offer again! $20 is the flat rate I charge for a quickly-colored fullbody sketch! The examples below are a bit higher level of detail than the flat rate, but are a good example of what my style looks like these days.

The loan payments are thankfully a manageable size so just a couple commissions should be enough! I’m not doing limited slots though; I’ll just let you know what number in line you are . Once I’ve got your payment and commission details, you’ll be added to my queue! I can forecast about 2 weeks, if not sooner. (Due to some IRL hecticness, I still have to finish the previous batch of commissions, but those are nearing completion - thank you for your patience!!!)

Rules/Payment

Pretty much anything goes as far as subject matter, except for p.orn/N.SFW material. I reserve the right to reject any requests that make me uncomfortable for any reason (hate speech, personal squicks, etc.) 

I take payment in USD through PayPal only!

Like I mentioned above, a flat $20 will get you a quickly-colored fullbody sketch, but you’re free to send any amount and I’ll adjust the amount of detail accordingly. You’ll get at least a bust sketch in return! :) You can request more than a single character if you send $40+.

Payment and requests/references can be sent to [email protected] ! Visual references are awesome if you already have them, but if you don’t have any visuals (or don’t like drawing), descriptions accompanied by google-image-searched or stock references work too.

Another of the Carla Sonheim exercises that I tried, that inspired the highlighter monsters. This one has a longer setup than doodling shapes with a marker, but you can end up with some neat shapes and styles you wouldn’t otherwise in your drawings! I know I sure did.

What you do for this one is you rip small pieces of washi tape. It’s got a nice papery texture that allows you to easily add other media on top afterward. You take the pieces and arrange them into random shapes on your paper. Then you turn the paper around to see if you can see any creatures in the shapes, and draw an outline of the animal on top! There’s more detailed steps and some nice visuals of the process here.

You could use things besides tape, of course, but tape lets you skip glue mess :)  And, obviously, you can do whatever animals you want. I did a page of birds because I saw a lot of beak shapes in my tape clusters, so I went with it. (Maybe I’ll do a page of fish sometime.) My own tapes were waxy and/or glossier than expected… so I had trouble making marks on it :T They must have been regular deco-tapes sold as “washi” imitations. I managed alright by brute forcing my way through with some permanent pens, but I’ll try to get some actual washi tape online for next time so I can draw on it with plain pencil and pen lol

The highlighter monsters I posted earlier got positive reception so I decided to share the little steps I wrote out for myself before I started drawing them~

Gotta give credit where it’s due, though! Inspiration for this exercise was drawn heavily from “Drawing and Painting Imaginary Animals: A Mixed Media Workshop” by Carla Sonheim! I borrowed my copy from the library, but you can purchase your own copy at the link above there if your library doesn’t have it.

It’s a really neat little book with a bunch of fun exercises (this one here is kind of a frankenstein-mashup of a few of the ones from the book). Carla’s art is really fun to look at, the steps are easy to understand and follow, and her tips are great for artists at any level of experience! Definitely check it out if you need to kick some art block to the curb <3

Here’s a ref for my DND character, Melelani! She’s a Trichadon bard, and is based visually on a whale shark. Her character sheet is here, if you wanna see her current stats/spells and some other fun stuff!

PHEW at long last I’m done with this thing. I’ll have another post at some point with some backstory, all her fun bardy outfits, all the other miscellaneous crap she’s (somehow) lugging around all the time, some spells she knows, etc etc. But for now I’m taking a break lol. TL;DR I’VE BEEN HAVING WAY TOO MUCH FUN LEARNING HOW TO DND TO EVen draw anything lmao;;;

I’m very, very proud of her design, and her crest in particular - it’s a stylized version of a music stand symbol, combined with a trident shape and the Pisces symbol (plus it looks kinda like a harp too).

For a Bard, Mel has a lot of “mel”ee weapons B)

drew a taako last night in a stream, thought I’d save it to post at a more reasonable hour :’D

it was really fun deciding colors and patterns to clash with each other, but it kinda ended up looking more coordinated than I planned LOL (wacky patterns and color overlays are fun like that)
