this is like basic foundational misogyny 101 but the fact that it's almost unconsciously ingrained to consider trousers a more "practical" alternative to skirts across the majority of human cultures does make me feel a little kicked in the head. this isn't even anything against pants, or denying that sometimes they are the best suited garment for purpose, it's just that skirts are nearly always unfairly compared as the a frivolous option, even though they're functionally not dissimilar at all. they're comfortable, capable of being tailored to suit a variety of purposes both aesthetic and functional, and simply what some people prefer. and yet, because they're so strongly tied to women and femininity, they're derided. a long skirt is an impediment; shortening a skirt is a sexual act. throughout history humans of all demographics have worn skirts and skirt-like clothing for a variety of purposes, but to wear a skirt in our enlightened modern age is a heavily gendered and politically loaded notion. and we just tolerate living like this. fucking unreal.

But actually no, not all takes are equally valid. Framing something as an interpretation doesn’t mean it inherently has merit. Some takes are completely incorrect and betray a fundamental misunderstanding of the source material. They just aren’t a reason to harass people or send death threats

keep in mind i am not a biologist in any way but my understanding of it basically goes
the period is all hormones. if you have the hormones but not the uterus you can still get everything except the bleeding from the uterus. yknow because your body can't detect that one peripheral but the rest of the program still works
the actual cramps and pain aren't from the uterus they're from the muscles around the uterus squeezing it, which you have even if you don't have a uterus
so if you're a trans girl you can't shed the uterine lining obviously but you can still get things like fatigue, cravings, mood swings, back cramps, and breast tenderness
this isn't really a thing common to trans women either. there's a bunch of ways cis women and other uterus havers can have bloodless periods too (stress, diet, birth control, anovulation, apparently thyroid issues sometimes) no matter what some terfs on reddit want you to think lmao

also no you weirdo saying trans women can and often do have hormone cycles that mimic a period, and they should be allowed to call it that because if they had a uterus they probably would be bleeding from it also, is not in any way erasing transmascs. what the hell
Although periods are considered 'womanly', and euphoric for some trans women, it would be reductionist to call it a period.

the characters furries are flocking to are less black-coded and also just. i didnt hear anything about this film at all which is SO WEIRD because i hear about furry characters when they're background characters in one episode of a human anime. It feels like a sort of "its falling under the radar because its black coded" sort of thing going on and i really have no reason to disagree. it's a little weird
i literally didnt hear anything about this and much less saw fanart of any of the characters which is kind of insane for a full furry film

So, on Tiktok a popular point of fanfic discussion lately has been about fanfics including additional media, from art to playlists. The general consensus there seems to be that art is good, but playlists are cringey and will often result in abandoning the fic entirely just for its presence.
I'm very interested in what Tumblr's opinion is on this issue. Please reblog for sample size!
If a fic I'm about to read comes with a playlist done by the author, I think:
It's cringe and I'll abandon the fic for it
It's cringe, but I'll still read the fic
I'm neutral, but I won't look at the playlist
I'm neutral and maybe I'll open the playlist if I like the fic enough
I'm neutral, but like playlists enough to listen even if I don't like the fic
I like it, but have too particular of a taste in music to listen

Fandoms without canon problematic ship potential have to invent it for discourse purposes. This is why a cast where every character is an unrelated adult and there are no power dynamics get fans declaring that some characters are basically siblings/parent-child and shippers should die. clears throat. i often see people playing in an AU where jason todd has a Y shaped autopsy scar on his torso after resurrection. that is cool and something i love. but based on what i have gathered from questionably-accurate entertainment media, the other major thing done at autopsy is the skull cap being sawn off, and then replaced once the contents have been inspected. if we assume that is true, then in a more accurate AU of jason todd with autopsy scars, he would also have a sort of crown of scar tissue, cutting through his forehead like a circlet before disappearing under his hair.
with me so far? okay now, please indulge my own hc for this AU. jason’s white streak that appears after resurrection could in that case be explained by the hair trying to grow back over scar tissue. and accomplishing it via magic but at the cost of natural pigmentation. thereFORE we can propose in this universe that his white streak would not be merely a streak but a halo of grey-white hair encircling his head, producing an effect that i can only imagine as tragically poetic or bitterly ironic, depending on the circumstances.
