Ok uhh super unpopular opinion…
TRR has always been subpar.
I know half of you just scrolled to the bottom of the post to skip this, but to the rest: hear me out.
TRR was created toward the end of the OG Books age. The OG books age included TF B1-2, TCatF, and, notably, RoE.
Everyone was skeptical or TRR when we heard that it was a RoE spinoff. However, many were pleasantly surprised by it.
That is because, when compared to RoE, TRR was MUCH better.
However, as the book progressed, the shine wore off. Every chapter was following a STRICT formula:
1: MC goes to <EVENT_NAME> at <ESTATE_OF_DIGNITARY>.
2: MC either performs well or poorly
3: Diamonds scene with <CHARACTER>.
4: The loop {TRR_CHAPTER} continues.
And it never changed. Never.
Think about TRR B2. Half of it wasn’t even fucking necessary. If we had been able to confess feelings in B1, perhaps Book 2 could have been dedicated to more intriguing plots and avoided the cringiness with Liam.
I actually had hope for TRR B3. Assassins? Finally! We could have been chasing them down, pursuing a dark threat, having FIGHT SCENES and acquiring weapons! It could have been like TCatF!
But nope! What was the problem in the most recent chapter? “Oh, dearie me, however will we put on this art show when there’s water on the floor! Those dastardly assassins have struck again!”
Fuck TRR. It had SUCH potential. I still love Hana Lee.
