I got a husky.
Unexpected manikins will never not scare the everliving shit out of me.
Camping out in my truck under the stars with fresh slightly autumn air and cricket song. Not bad for my last rural shift.
So life has an interesting way of being incredibly unpredictable - I've just been hired to teach EMT at the college I graduated from as a paramedic. Classes start NEXT WEEK. This is more terrifying than my first days on the streets!
From-scratch brownies with a fluffy cookie dough frosting. *drool*
Baby!!
You can do everything right and all that effort is still sometimes futile, you never had a chance to begin with, you lost before you were even dispatched. We talk about racing the forces of death and we often offer patients a second chance they wouldn't otherwise have, even if death ends up winning, but sometimes you can't even take solace in that, sometimes the only reason you're there is to watch them die and it really doesn't matter if you intubated them or not, high-flow or low-flow O2, hyperventilate or not. It doesn't matter what you did or could have done. This was a massive head bleed, responsive to PD and unresponsive minutes later for us. At hospital arrival he was herniating through his brain stem, and that pisses me off. Accepting powerlessness, accepting mortality, and being grateful for my life while I have it.

When you can't access the fresh roll and you're working, thus wearing work pants with trauma shears. I win!
It was luck... Turns out, whatever you know about medicine, ultimately luck or fate or God or who-knows-what is always gonna end up playin' a much bigger role in the whole thing than you or I ever will.

My fire dept's new C-MAC. I personally haven't used it on a real patient yet, but excited for the potential!
Who else LOVES their job?
This is going to make plugging our truck in a little harder...
One of my favourite twitter trending topics I’ve seen in a while: #GirlsWithToys.
This came as a response to an Astronomer’s remarks that Scientists are ‘boys with toys’.
Glad to see such a strong response from the women of STEM. :)
Don't drive sleepy.
I'm pretty sure it's completely psychosomatic that ten minutes after my 12 hour pre-physical fast starts, my stomach gets literally roaringly hungry... Why, brain, why??
