pay attention to how you feel after you spend time with someone.

do you feel lighter, inspired, or at ease? or do you feel a knot in your chest, an overwhelming exhaustion, or like you just ran a marathon trying to keep the peace?

your body keeps score before your brain even wants to admit it.

if a connection consistently leaves you drained, anxious, second-guessing yourself, or heavy-hearted, that is information. it’s not an overreaction, and it’s not you being “too sensitive.” your nervous system is simply trying to protect your peace.

you don’t need a dramatic fallout or a tangible betrayal to justify stepping back. feeling constantly depleted is reason enough.

trust your instincts. give yourself permission to choose your calm over someone else’s comfort.
