I don’t think people should be rewarded or praised for btv riding. If it’s sustained for more more than a step especially if the rider isn’t making an attempt to correct it then it’s at best incorrect

Doesn’t matter if ‘this was our first show and he was nervous’ ‘he’s a hot horse I have to keep him under control’

One of the hardest things to unlearn is that being at the top of the sport does not mean

They are the best horsepeople.

They have their horses' best interests in mind.

They know everything.

They're not wrong about things.

They are good people.

Look at the so-called professionals at the top level of this sport who have

Ill-fitting tack.

Horses with no proper topline.

Over-bitted.

Their horses commonly show signs of extreme stress.

Used rollkur and other bad training methods.

Refuse to turn out their horses.

Defended bad practices.

Sacrificed their horses wellbeing for winning.

Abused their horses.

Abused people.

Defended other professionals who have done bad things.

So many people will defend these professionals to the death. For what? So many fail to separate that someone can be an exceptional rider or win lots of competitions... But do one or more of those bad things.

God it kills me to see those stupid transformations where it’s like

before: shows an uncomfortable & uneducated horse with a rider locking their arms and pulling the bit right down onto their tongue

after: horse tucks their nose behind the vertical now (still uncomfortable & uneducated (possibly bitless and still btv))

I know for a fact I’ve complained about this before but if you’re not 15 minutes early you’re late. Especially if it’s your first time somewhere? Like I genuinely don’t understand my new students wanting to show up at the lessons start time when that’s when we start!

First lesson over jumps today and omg I had so much fun! I really thought that I would feel more tossed around but it was surprisingly smooth

I hate the fact that people care so much about whiskers 🙄 I don’t care whether or not people clip them or ear hair as long as it’s not stressful for the horse but it pisses me off that they’re cracking down so hard on that when there’s definitely more immediate welfare concerns

Gotta say the more I work with other ppls horses the more I ~hate~ when they’re spoiled and not even in an ‘oh my sweet boy was so good today he’ll get extra cookies’ way but more ‘oh my sweet boy missed his friends so he dragged me down the driveway and I didn’t correct him because he was anxious 😇’ or even ‘fluffy hasn’t worked in a couple days so he’s gonna break his back AND MINE in two!’

If the horse doesn’t know what it means to actually have a job and have a hard days work under their saddle then tbh I heavily side eye their owner. A horse needs to know how to think for themselves, handle stress without exploding or shutting down, and have an on and off switch

A'Va Minted Design, a 2003 mare by Grand Design (Appaloosa x Friesian) and out of an Appaloosa mare. DNA tested black with dun, so she is technically grulla, with another dilute gene to make her coat appear tan dun, with a near leopard pattern. (x)
