Heat and humidity are not friends to this manufacturing company’s new labeling equipment. As the summer months were approaching and temperatures start soaring, a solution was needed to contain this new labeling environment to control the heat and humidity levels. In addition, the wall solution needed to provide the company with flexibility, ease of installation, and cost-effectiveness.
InsulWall® an insulated, flexible curtain wall was selected as the solution to protect the new labeling equipment. InsulWall was installed quickly and worked with the building’s infrastructure and doors. Not only is InsulWall made from a flexible material – vinyl – providing “give” when hit by forklifts or warehouse equipment, it also provided for the flexibility to expand, move, or store for future uses.
InsulWall helped this manufacturing company protect its new labeling equipment to ensure optimal performance. What equipment or processes do you have that require temperature and / or humidity control? We can help.
InsulWall is considered a temporary wall and generally does not require a building permit. The owner is responsible for conforming to all local municipality, building and fire safety codes and regulations.
2. Can InsulWall be installed between existing racks and/or wide open space?
This is critical when determining type of lift equipment and cost. Installing between an existing racking will require an articulating boom lift. Installation in a wide open space will require a scissor lift wide and tall enough to handle the 5’ wide panel and highest elevation where the curtain will be hung.
3. How does InsulWall work with bar joists running parallel or perpendicular with the wall?
Perpendicular – a separate valance will be required for the height of the bar joist. The main panel will be hung from the underside of the bar joist. All field cuts for sprinklers, conduit and beams will be done in the valance.
Perpendicular – sometimes Unistrut is required to span between the joist for added support of the main panel.
Parallel – the main panel will hang from the top of the joist /deck to the finished floor.
4. Does the installation require union or non-union labor?
Must know type of labor before the quotation is presented to the client. Union labor will significantly increase the cost of the installation compared to non-union labor.
5. How does InsulWall work with a fluted deck or gap between the top of the joist to the deck?
To maintain a tight seal and prevent air escaping to the other side of the wall & condensation forming, spray foam is blown into the flutes of the deck or open space eliminating any air gaps.

Its 5’ wide panels are fastened to the ceiling deck and attached to each other with industrial Velcro®. InsulWall installs easily with minimal facility disruption.
All Hail, Pale Ale - Craft Beer Trivia, Storage, InsulWall
‘Tis the season to raise a glass of……craft beer. The craft beer business is booming. In 2017, craft beer grabbed 12.7% market share of the overall beer market. From pale ales, IPAs, lagers, stouts, and more – there’s a craft brew for everyone’s taste. As you raise a glass this holiday season, raise a few eyebrows with your craft beer fact prowess.
Here are five random facts that are sure to solidify your position as the smartest craft beer person in the room:
(1) According to 24/7WallStreet, North Dakota drank more beer per person than any other state in our union. Meaning that each person in 2013 would have had to drink 43.6 gallons of beer.
(2) Mississippi and Alabama legalized home-brewing in 2013.
(3) America’s largest craft beer brewery is… Yuengling. According to the Brewers Association,Yuengling, brewing beer since 1829, topped the craft beer sales chart in 2017.
(4) India Pale Ale — a hoppy style of beer within the pale ale category – is the most popular style craft beer.
(5) Beers that are released by big mega brewers that look like craft beers are termed “crafty beers”.
In all seriousness, craft beer has proved to be more than a passing craze. Beer distributors across the country are grappling with storing a proliferation of new craft beer skus and storing craft beer at the proper temperature to maintain freshness and quality.
Importance of Cold Temperature Storage (below 45°F)
Craft breweries strive to ensure their product’s flavor stability, which usually boasts greater malt and hop character, in addition to many flavor nuances not found in lighter styles. Fresh, consistent beer expresses the complexities that beer drinkers expect. Distributors can contribute to that goal by keeping all craft beer refrigerated according to specifications. Cold storage and shipping temperatures preserve the taste qualities of all beer, but it is even more important with full-flavored craft beers which are not usually flashed or tunnel pasteurized. Since beer spends more time at the warehouse, it is imperative that it is stored cold.
InsulWall Creates Modular, Temperature-Controlled Storage Areas for Craft Beer
InsulWall®, the insulated warehouse curtain wall, helps beer distributors create temperature-controlled areas of the warehouse to properly store craft beer. Hung from the ceiling joists, InsulWall’s panels install quickly and efficiently to create temperature-controlled warehouse space. Craft beer’s seasonality, such as the holiday season, can easily to be accommodated with InsulWall’s modularity and ease of movement. Simply move the wall to expand the storage area and move it back at the conclusion of the season.

InsulWall Keeps Flowers Bloomin’ this Holiday Season
‘Tis the season for fresh flowers; the holiday season coupled with Valentine’s Day can generate over half of a florist shop and retailer’s fresh flower annual revenues. To keep up with demand, floral distributors need a cold storage warehouse plan of attack during these peak seasons. They need the flexibility to scale their cold storage warehouse areas to store more flowers with the ability to re-purpose the space during off seasons.
Temperature and humidity are the critical factors to keep flowers fresh for as long as possible. As temperatures rise, flowers will dry out so they require a high humidity level. In addition, distributors that store both floral and produce should keep these products apart. There are certain varieties of fruits and vegetables that release ethylene that may actually kill flowers. Some distributors go as far as keeping flowers and produce apart on the dock during off-loading and loading processes.
What’s a distributor to do?
How do you create a flexible cold storage environment to accommodate an influx of demand?
How do you create multiple climate controlled areas to keep fresh floral and produce separate?
InsulWall is leading the way with innovative floral storage management
Kendal Floral is a leading supplier and distributor of fresh cut flowers in the Western United states. They pride themselves on keeping bouquets, roses and floral arrangements in an optimal storage environment that ensures each flower’s vibrancy.
Kendal needed a way to keep arrangements cool without sacrificing valuable warehouse space the remainder of the year. When a contractor proposed building a permanent cooler room, Kendal recoiled and called Josh Welch, territory manager for Engineered Products, a Papé Company (Seattle, WA).
Instead of a permanent room, Welch proposed installing InsulWall® from Randall Manufacturing. InsulWall, an insulated curtain wall system, would keep the room at a constant temperature of 50 degrees and could be removed when the season was over.
InsulWall Delivered
Engineered Products engaged Randall Manufacturing to work closely with Kendal Floral to:
Design InsulWall to leverage Kendal’s infrastructure utilizing existing walls and cooling systems.
Engineer InsulWall to take into account the ceiling slope.
Provide a panel with a weight less than 50 lbs. per square foot.
Create short and long-term cost savings, factoring in InsulWall’s reusability. Just prior to installation, Kendal decided to expand the dimensions – ultimately creating a 3,500 square foot x 37′ high enclosure. Even with the change order, it took only four weeks to manufacture, deliver and install InsulWall. Kendal Floral was striving to meet increased demand by creating a temporary cold storage room – quickly, with a wall system that was modular, flexible and thermal: AND at half the cost of the proposed permanent room.

Randall Keeps a Christmas Classic - Fresh, Blooming, and Lush
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – Poinsettias are making their way into stores and on our mantles now. Shipping these beauties, in the cold climates, can be tricky. Last year, our friends at Koehler & Dramm experienced an unfortunate loss when temperatures dipped during transit and the vibrant Poinsettia’s red leaves turned droopy and discolored. Not this year….
Koehler & Dramm is a wholesale floral supplier in Minneapolis serving Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and North and South Dakota for over 60 years. They sell fresh cut flowers, bouquets, arrangements, hard goods and supplies, and plants to retail flower shops, studios, mass markets and event companies – including over 10,000 Poinsettias this season.
Temperature control and fresh flowers go hand-in-hand during transit. Ideally, Poinsettias should be shipped in trucks at about 52 to 56oF. Warmer temperatures can result in wilting. Shipping temperatures below 50oF can also result in chilling injury. In addition, Poinsettias don’t like to be mishandled which can cause bruising. In other words, handle Poinsettias with care, please.
In past years, the Poinsettias were packaged in boxes insulated with Styrofoam panels which are effective – but very labor intensive. This year, Koehler & Dramm worked with Randall Manufacturing to design insulated cart covers affectionately called, “plant sleeping bags”, to protect their shipments of Poinsettias. The “plant sleeping bags”, aka insulated cart covers, were sewn with industrial Velcro® on all four sides to conform to the cart dimensions and to ensure a tight seal. The exterior Denier nylon is washable allowing for easy wash down and foldable for easy storage season after season.
Not only is Koehler & Dramm able to pack more efficiently, they are reducing their carbon footprint and reducing landfill waste by reusing their “plant sleeping bags”.
We’re proud to say that Rudolph’s nose isn’t the only thing shining red this season – thousands of Koehler & Dramm Poinsettias are brilliant shades of red as they were kept at just the right temperature on their way to homes everywhere. And to all…. a good night.
Without proper protection, winter in a warehouse is winter in a warehouse. There is no escaping the cold, snow and wind when dock doors are opening and closing through the day. The challenge lies in protecting temperature-sensitive inventory from the frigid temperatures while on the loading dock.
Randall offers three ways to protect your temperature-sensitive inventory from fluctuations in temperature that can deteriorate product integrity. These solutions not only assist with protecting inventory from the threats of winter weather but protect employees, equipment and conserve energy.
Consider any combination of the three:
1. Insulated Dock Enclosure Curtains
Randall’s InsulWall® can be used around the perimeter of internal and external loading dock areas as an excellent thermal barrier. Installed on roller track, InsulWall can be simply rolled back from the bay door and closed when the job is complete. Windows can be sewn within InsulWall to keep the dock area bright and safe. When compressors and heaters are working overtime to keep the dock area at a temperature set point, InsulWall can help conserve energy by not over-taxing equipment to keep up with the outside temperature.
2. InsulBlock (insulated door plug)
InsulBlock is a custom manufactured, portable, insulated door solution for containing heat, cooler, freezer temperatures within an enclosed conditioned space or internal loading dock bay during off-hours or down times.
3. Insulated Pallet & Cart Covers
Custom made to ensure maximum thermal protection and durability, Randall’s Insulated Pallet and Cart Covers are constructed of 420 denier polyurethane coated nylon with a variety of R-values available for insulation. No matter what your size or application, we can help design and manufacture an insulated, reusable cover that will fit your inventory dimensions and protect product while on the dock.

Do you have conveyor systems, door frames, pass-throughs that your warehouse walls need to accommodate? These can be difficult requests when dealing with rigid panels and traditional drywall for your warehouse walls.
InsulWall Makes the Cut
InsulWall is designed to be easily modified in the field without affecting or impacting its integrity. When drywall or rigid panels are cut to accommodate penetrations, many times this has a negative impact on the integrity of these walls causing product disintegration and dust. InsulWall is dust-free allowing for installation and modifications to be done on-site during working hours without safety implications or environmental issues for employees.
Go ahead put a hole in the InsulWall – it’s made to accommodate your building’s operations with ease.
