OOC: PLEASE NOTE
None of this is my real information! This is a roleplay blog and please do not confuse yourself. Thanks.
Edit: I'm realizing this has gotten to the point where people will need to know Jade's story, so here goes. Story under the cut cause it's long.
She is currently fourteen, born and raised in Crime Alley and was orphaned at twelve-thirteen due to joker (Rip Catherine and Joe Johnson). She was sent to the foster care system only to escape when she realized it was pretty much a trafficking front, and spent a while surviving on her own off of a low-wage job and thievery in her childhood home. She ended up helping the local vigilantes here and there when they were injured with a first aid kit and a metric ton of stubbornness, plus just running into them randomly cause she likes high places and a lot of her 'safe' spaces are on rooftops. She also had a book-trade-friendship-thing with Jason as mentioned above, so he was already getting attached.
After a while of knowing Jason and noticing strange connections, it's not hard for her to put two and two together to realize "oh man Hood's the dead Wayne kid" and there go the rest of their secrets too. She eventually panicked over knowing something so dangerous and tried to hide it, only to have a breakdown. Jason found her in the middle and she panicked, thinking he'd kill her for what she knew, but this honestly sealed the deal for Jason that she needed a home and a family (lore post here. More to come, i.e the aftermath of that). And when faced with a child who needed a home, was heading down a path of thievery, and knew something incredibly dangerous, B folded like a collapsible table (who really expected the serial adopter to say no to a new kid though). Jade Lisett Johnson was welcomed into the Wayne home the next day and was offered the choice of whether she wanted to be a crime fighter. Three guesses what she chose, guys. She took up the mantle of Nightingale after a few months of training.
Random details that aren't very important but that I like: Tim, upon learning how she found them all out (being a stalker), immediately nicknamed her "Copycat". She shares Jason's passion for books and classic literature, and her house on Crime Alley became an open shelter. She's fluent in Spanish as well as English and knows most conlangs in her fandoms pretty well. Oh, and Poison Ivy unofficially adopted her as an aunt and is one of the many reasons Jade is still alive. Jade calls her Aunt Pam.
Lore posts: tag is #🪞 a piece of my story
Jade has a breakdown and Jason finds her: here.
Jade is rescued from joker's clutches by Jason (THREAD, VIGILANTE ACCOUNT): here (This is part of the Arkham event, all of which will be tagged with #Event: Arkham on this blog and #birdhunt on other blogs related to this one).
This will be an attempt at a coherent and straight storyline, but there may be details that don't line up. Don't think too hard about it. An unfortunate amount of lore is scattered on other blogs playing Tim and Jason (Tim: @caffine-is-better-than-sleep and @tired-baby-bird Jason: @broken-winged-jaybird and @dead-red-bird). Anything pertaining to Jade will be tagged #Little J and the events will have the same tags. I'll be writing most everyone in the family as loving, if a bit emotionally constipated sometimes, so that means that both Jason and B are loving here. Don't send me hate for it, please and thank you, I can't believe I have to say this.
Vigilante account is @gothamitenightingale.
Gal behind the blog is a minor and female, call me freaking Naomi if you want (that's nowhere near my real name). Some of my prexisting nicknames are K, Rin, Red, and Skyguy. No DNI, and no ships please.
Stellar climbed in, but was surprised at Jade's mood. There was, at least, a rough affection there. She had been invited in, after all.
She wouldve expected this from anyone else. Probably wouldnt have even come over. But she had just assumed Jade would be awake. It seemed a bit silly now.
Jade watched her absently, tossing a few pencils into a cup to clear up space on her desk. Stell's presence was comforting just to have around, it let a little of the stress bleed out of her tight frame.
"'kay."
She squinted a sparkling pink glitter pen that she most definitely did not remember getting and made a mental note to ask Steph if she'd been in Jade's room that day.
"What else's going on? Y're kinda bad at keepin' y' thoughts off y' face."
"Eh i'll need it anyway. Maybe it can help me handle my... mom. Thats why im here. She wanted to come to Gotham of all places." She paused. She almost couldnt say it. "She's meeting up with a guy."
She stuck out her tongue in disgust.
"She wants me to join them for breakfast. Introduce him to me. Or rather, me to him. She won't care what I think. She'll only accept my approval."
She paused. "It's only been a year since the divorce. I guess she's hated Dad a lot longer than that."
Jade stayed quiet for a long time. That was a pain she didn't know, didn't understand. There wasn't much she could say. And she didn't know Stell the way was necessary to know what she needed here. She didn't know if Stell needed the spotlight taken off her or if she needed to be seen.
"Sucks."
She eventually mumbled.
"Tha'... it happens a lot. Different in the details but same whole sucky picture. Knew a gal called Marlen who had somethin' like tha', but it was her father."
She rolled her shoulders and stretched again.
"Wanna watch a movie or wait a minute? Y' can pick if y' wanna watch somethin'."
"Its nice to know other people can be as awkward at this as I am," she gently punched Jade's arm. "I think we might be even now."
[Your dialogue here]
The movie idea seemed good in her flight-mode brain. All she wanted to do was run away from tomorrow. In fact, she vaguely planned to not show up.
"Yknow," she said, "if we're gonna watch a movie, i dont really want these lenses impedeing my view," she tapped her mask.
She was grinning. Her heart was racing, but she'd been thinking about this for a while, and she knew she wanted to do it. What could Jade even do? Make a police sketch an- well wait she was an artist. Hopefully she only did landscapes.
When Stell spoke again, Jade raised one eyebrow as it clicked in her brain. Oh. Okay.
"Y' don' 'ave to."
She leaned back on her hands and kicked her feet absently, an almost childish motion. She did want to see Stell without the mask, kinda. It's not like it was a big deal, but the trust would be nice to have. She shrugged.
"Well, im no bruce wayne. You wont know who i am by my face, so all i have to do is not share my name. Well, my last name. Just dont take any pictures, okay?"
Jade was a bat. Well, a bird, but a bat. She wouldnt put Stellar in danger. On purpose. She hadn't really proven that she could keep a secret... but who would she tell anyway? The other bats would probably leave Stell alone.
"Figures. If y' were someone famous we'd prob'ly already know by now. An' no pictures, promise."
She hummed under her breath, glancing out the window to the white-speckled sky. She'd be out there soon, swinging from place to place as had become routine. She wondered absently what Stell was thinking.
Stellar was ready to squawk at Jade for her head tilting, and then was sucker punched by the compliment. She pumped her fist triumphantly. She felt like she would be hanging onto that forever.
"Yes to blankets," she said. "And by the way- funny thing about my name- my real one is Stella. I figure i can tell you that much."
"Really? Isn' the hero name a bit... on the nose?"
She waved one hand as if to say nevermind and turned to open her closet, pulling out three different throw blankets. One was the same sage green color as Jade's sweater, the other two different shades of red. In the closet there were another few, blue, purple, black, yellow, and the last one a lighter shade of green. Jade tossed one of the red ones at Stell.
Stella stared at the empty hallway through Jade’s doorway.
“L’s got a point?” she muttered with confusion.
Ew.
She made a “urgh” sound, but looked around for those alledged movies.
[I’m deciding that] Jade had a bookshelf in her room, and the top shelf had dvd cases on it. Stella walked over to check them.
Lord of the Rings, of course. The Pride and Prejudice adaptation. Some stuff she didn’t recognize. Barbie Swan Lake was left on its side in front of the lineup. She picked it up. That seemed… odd for Jade to have? But maybe it was part of a precious childhood memory. She kept reading movie names.
Stella dropped the dvd back on the shelf, because she was not a baby, and she did not like Barbie movies.
“Not really,” she said, turning around. She was delighted to see just how much popcorn Jade had brought. “Your taste in movies is too good. I want something bad. Like…” she grinned. “Ever seen Madame Web?”
She set the popcorn bowl on the ground and put the dvd in the player. She hopped on the bed, screamed into her blanket for a moment, and then arranged said blanket around herself.
Jade stuck out her tongue but scrambled into a sitting position as the movie started, snuggling under her own blanket, barely phased by Stell's muffled screams.
Pearl, the ten-year-old, couldn't be happier about his life right now. He was taken in by his favorite person, Harley! Yeah, mean, weirdo Joker is there too, but whatever! Harley is the one he really cares about. She taught him how to make bombs, shoot a gun, steal properly, and she even made him a jumbo hammer like hers!
Living in their secret base is fun too. No sleep schedule, he eats whatever he wants, and every day is fun! Fun! FUN! He sleeps in a small carousel that's always lit up, so he doesn't have to be afraid of the dark. When the Joker is being a jerk, Harley takes Pearl to her other hideout. A whole abandoned mall full of clothes! She sleeps in one of the mattress stores.
While he's there, he gets to have all the clothes he wants! And fun sleep-overs too! Speaking of clothes, he wears whatever he wants! Like right now, he's wearing a sparkly and fluffy dress while tossing bombs out of an ice cream truck. His life couldn't get any better!
Joker was at the steering wheel, laughing like a madman. Harley was at the back, tossing more hazardous bombs while Pearl threw smoke ones. The smoke bombs were just as lethal. Packing the same heat as pepper spray. Pearl didn't see Harley or the Joker as his parents. He never wanted parents and just doesn't need em. The memories he has of his parents aren't all that great. No, Harley and Joker are like siblings! They are just as immature and childish as he is.
Of course, Buttman and his stupid robins had to come in and ruin everything!
One moment, things were totally epic. Batman landed on the roof of the truck. Pearl was about to use his rocket launcher to blow him off the top with a sparkling, fiery finish.
When the truck swerved and collided with something.
The last thing Pearl sees is Harley and Joker being taken away before his consciousness slips. Joker laughing, Harley reaching for him.
Batman, otherwise known as Bruce Wayne, had a habit of picking up Gotham orphans and adopting them, so to speak. In his eyes, Pearl is no different. Okay, well, he is different. Pearl was looked after by two villains who are…thorns in his side, to be put lightly. But he knows putting a child like Pearl in the foster system would be idiotic. And to be honest…putting Pearl in a foster system would be hell for the people willing to take him in. Especially the other children.
He wanted to give this kid a chance...

The boy wakes up and finds himself in an unfamiliar bed...what the hell?
There was a girl sitting on the floor nearby, leaning against the wall with a copy of "To Kill a Mockingbird" in her lap. She gave a jaunty wave and hummed.
"You 'kay? I think y' hit y' head pretty hard somewhere."
The book was closed and set aside, and she stretched as she got to her feet, not coming over quite yet.
"....Do I look okay?" He muttered with his face against the floor. In all places, this is the last place he wanted to be. Wait...where the heck is Batman? Why did he drop him off at this...Wayne Manor? Is this his place? What is going on?!
She bit her lip nervously and lifted her hand, getting back to her feet and moving toward the door. She exchanged a couple quiet words with someone at the door and came back with a middle-aged man behind her.
Pearl lifted his head up to look at the man coming toward him. He didn't look scary, he looked...normal. A black turtle neck, brown pants, and regular black shoes.
What ever so slightly freaked him out more was the concern in the man's eyes. Or was it pity? Pearl doesn't like being pitied.
"No! My head hurts because you or...something. I don't know! I just know that when you showed up, everything went wrong!" Pearl attempts to stand up and sways a little bit.
Bruce held his hands up to show he didn't mean any harm. "Easy there, kid. I know you're upset, but you're in good hands. Now, can you sit down for me? please?"
"I don't want to sit down! I want my Harley!" Pearl saw the world swirl again and fell over.
Jade stepped up next to him, panic pulsing in the general vicinity of her chest for a split second before the logical side of her mind firmly reminded her that he would be fine, just overwhelmed. He looked way too small, even for a ten year old. Worrying.
"Y' can come down, Peter."
She mumbled, raising her head to give her brother an unimpressed look.
B gave a sigh, lifting Pearl easily to lay him back on the bed.
"We'll try again when the pain meds have worn off."
(@petercanparkacar I forgot to tag you when I made this and then just. Forgot altogether lol)
A few hours go by, and Pearl wakes up again, feeling a little bit better. Thought that meant chaos for everybody else. He has tried to set the kitchen on fire (failed), tried to run away six times (failed), and tried to bite Bruce (failed).
He's now back in the room he woke up in. Sitting on the floor by his bed and staring daggers at the door.
Bruce, or whatever his name is, told him that he was in..."time out"? What the hell even is that?!
There's a knock on the door, and he inwardly curses whoever is behind it. "Go away! I don't want your stupid dinner..."
He stared at the food as if it personally offended him. But he hasn't eaten anything since...last night. So, he begrudgingly picked up the plate and started eating.
Jade flopped down on the floor gracelessly, flexing her aching fingers and having firmly decided that Math. Freaking. Sucked. She took her own plate off the tray and started poking at it with her fork.
"Whatddya even do when y're not destroyin' things?"
Pearl looked up at her before frowning and thinking about it, "...I like lookin' at bugs...playin' with em too. Also like...makin things. When I can." The boy rumbled as he picked at the food. "I like listening to the violin too, I guess..."
"I like lookin' at spiders mostly. Tiny ones are the usual ones I see. I remember stealing a few bug books. My favorites are the rhinoceros beetle and Goliathus beetle..."
Pearl thought about a few things before taking another bite, "I like tinkering with stuff too."
A smirk appeared on his face as he remembered all the stuff he did during the day, "I'm sure you already know that, though!"
"Aww, thanks J." Peter came in, holding a plate of cookies. "Alfred made some cookies. So I brought a few up here!" Peter left them on the drawer, not forcing the kid to eat or to even touch them. He knew adjusting would be tough.
