This is a quote by the American author Ken Keyes Jr. Wanting things or thinking how good others have it or demanding for things you donāt haveā¦ Rather than envying others, we should treasure what we have.
Well, you already have great things!
(laughs) Thatās a great quote. Well, I think itās best to treasure your things. A while ago, I was taking apart my lures - all the ones I had.
Why was I doing that? What sparked it?
What was it again? (laughs)
Like, not the normal ones they sell that are made of plastic, but all of a sudden I was just wondering how those handmade lures made of wood were created.
And then I looked it up on my phone. āAh, so thatās how itās doneā¦ā But I had some of those lures myself, those handmade ones. The ones properly made of wood and all. They can be pretty expensive.
Mm. So I was opposed to taking those apart, initially. But the whole point was, the fact was I could just make them. The whole thing started with me randomly wanting to learn how to make them.
So if you donāt examine the actual thingā¦ right? So I bought this mini saw-like thing and I bought something like a soldering iron and then in the middle of the nightā¦
āAhhhā¦ Cutting this lure would be heart-breaking!ā
So with that in mind - and it was heart-breaking - I cut it!
And then naturally, splendidly enough, it was all like, āOh, I see!ā with my discoveries. Yeah. āSo thatās how it is!ā
So after seeing that, honestly I wanted to make some myself. They have a weight in them and then a special wire in them. Thereās two halves and then they have it in the middle of that and attach them together and put on a coating. Thereās quite a lot of craftsmanship that goes into it.
Well, I donāt dislike that sort of thing. I wanted to pursue it. It reminded me of in the past when I used to make sculptures.
So in short, Iāve never worked with wood before. I had the sort of aspiration to try it as I did in the past. Except that I couldnāt start working on it. I mean, once you make a mistake carving in wood, you canāt fix the mistakes and thatās scary. Although you could avoid it, I guess.
But it was about time that I wanted to go there. That is, like, I wanted to make artistic lures. Just of my own accord. I was just in a world of self-satisfaction.
Like, itād be interesting if I caught a fish with that. Honestly, in the past Iād had that before. But I figured that once I got hooked, I wouldnāt be able to break out of it. So there was a period of time that was like that. That was probablyā¦ There was a period of time like that.
Itās gotta be now, I thought.
Iām the type who wants to do these things when Iām busy. (laughs)
Iāve always been like that since long ago. Thatās when things are born. Well, thatās the sort of thing Iāve been thinking about a lot lately.
