My Thoughts on Star Wars Rise of Skywalker *SPOILER WARNING*
- This was a huge part of my childhood and is now a big part of my adulthood
- It was great seeing my favourite movie villain Palpatine again, even though they never really explained how he survived after Return of the Jedi; whether you liked or hated him coming back, one thing we can all agree on, nobody saw that coming when the first trailer was released!
- I had a feeling Rey had some kind of connection to Palpatine but didn’t expect that, also what poor woman did he manipulate into banging him?
- I knew Leia would die but it stung even more so because of Carrie Fisher dying a few years ago
- Also Chewie’s reaction hurt more than the death itself, he only has Lando left now
- I was kinda hoping to see a big gathering of force ghosts like Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Luke, Leia, Han, and Ben at the end to bring the saga full circle
- When Rey started to pull that ship back down it reminded me of that part of Force Unleashed where you have to do the same thing as Galen!
- The kid in me was screeching when Luke pulled his old X Wing out of the water like Yoda on Dagobah!
- It’s probably a good thing we didn’t get that force ghost reunion cause either adult me would’ve screeched out loud or cried lol
- How did they repair Anakin’s old saber? Didn't Rey and Ben split it in half in The Last Jedi?
- It’s interesting how they incorporated the cloning angle with Palpatine along with the idea of him transferring his consciousness like in the expanded universe
- Some woman behind me whispered to her friend she thought Rey herself was a way finder, which would’ve been an interesting twist
- Being a fan of horror movies, I love how they sort of made Palpatine a horror villain with his zombie look and that whole satanic ritual toward the end, along with the creepy cultists chanting
- Palpatine really is the ultimate villain. He was controlling literally everything in some way from the shadows, always had a backup plan and was a master manipulator. It was rare he couldn’t get someone to do his bidding. He’s almost like Star Wars’ version of Satan: always working the strings from the shadows and always comes back. Nothing could ever redeem him, I mean that laugh alone makes him a great big bad!
- Overall, I loved it. For the most part it was a great finale and it feels strange to really have the Skywalker saga wrapped up. My late sister who got me into Star Wars quite young would’ve also enjoyed it, and I know she would’ve adored Rey. Her favourite characters were Padmé, Obi-Wan and Leia. She sadly passed in 2011. Alice, thanks for getting me into one of the best franchises of all time, I’ll always love Star Wars, and as long as I’m around, I’ll always represent you when either watching a new show or going to a new movie in the franchise! May the Force be with you, and with the rest of y’all!
