reading canine enrichment for the real world (still need to finish it but I digress) (recommend it though!) really kick-started my brain on the idea of species-specific needs. and how humans have them. and how often they are not met. and the resulting fallout.
it truly is a galaxy brain moment to be like ohhhhhh were are Highly Social Apes whose survival as individuals depends entirely on social bonds. our brains are wired to work relationally in ways that most other animals' are not. this makes almost everything make sense to me.

read the bbc article about the monkey torture ring. cried a bunch. got extremely triggered re my childhood trauma because I feel like whether it’s children or animals, abusers are the same, and I’ve always excessively empathised with animals especially mistreated ones or unpopular species. missed my dog so so so much. cried a bunch more. ugh.
“holidays are for lazing around and doing nothing” skill issue. holidays are for walking minimum 12k steps per day, ideally 15k, so you can see EVERYTHING on the list. and an afternoon nap to recover from the walking, drinking 15 coffees a day and eating lots of delicious food to fuel the walking, of course.
okay I forgot the one thing that does stop me walking 15 miles per day on holiday is spraining my ankle, which happens on about 50% of my holidays. hm. perhaps time to moderate my walking on this trip and see a physiotherapist when I get home. or perhaps I’ll learn nothing from this and sprain my ankle again

Stealing this from twitter but I liked the concept: put in the tags where were your 8 great-grandparents from (given modern borders) ?
