just blocked someone for an anti-tofu url. never let your guard down
a number of people seem to be interpreting this post as being about blocking people for silly petty reasons That is not my intention. This is a specifically pro-tofu post And it is serious to me. fuck you if you hate tofu

*giving you a tour of my tumblr dashboard* well that’s my mutual who posts beatles rpf and that’s my mutual who posts gifs of tv shows i haven’t watched and that’s my mutual who posts pictures of animals frolicking in fields or cool buildings or things like that and that’s my mutual who posts various images of men having sex. sometimes women too
I agree that genAI is often annoying and overhyped but tumblr users have a tendency to act like it's the fourth horseman of the apocalypse which is also deeply annoying to me. I work a job where genAI and particularly LLMs have actually got specific uses that have materially benefitted me. particularly: the way copilot integrates with Teams and Sharepoint means it's very good at finding things that are misfiled on Sharepoint in an insane way, which yes people shouldn't do, but they do, and I'd rather spend 30 minutes doing actual productive work than finding where some asshole shoved all those documents that I know exist but can't track down. also the integrated Teams/Copilot transcription service is a genuine lifesaver for me as a disabled person, as are AI based text to speech functions - and yes, non AI alternatives exist, but they're often a) worse quality b) less integrated into your meeting software, and most crucially c) nobody ever uses them or facilitates their use, which means as a disabled person it was extra effort for me to get them as an adjustment and also being singled out when I used them. now nobody cares if you just flick on "transcribe with Copilot" in a meeting. and no, it's not very prone to hallucinating in those contexts and pretty easy to catch when it does as long as you're sensible. I would say LLMs have far narrower uses than we're told but we don't serve anyone by acting like they have no uses.
like I absolutely don't want my art and music being fully ai generated lowest common denominator slop, basically nobody does, but as that one post said but I can't find it now, I don't believe in the inherent soul of emails. I also don't like it being used to undermine workers' rights but I think that's fundamentally a capitalism issue where bosses will do that with any new technology or with no new technology at all; yelling about gen AI being intrinsically evil is a distraction from that and makes you seem less credible. the environmental impacts are somewhat concerning but also from what I've read, still overhyped (source: my wife literally works in the environmental sector). and again it's weird that this website hates personal responsibility narratives when it comes to climate change, hates vegans etc, but will act like one chatgpt query is equivalent to you personally shooting a dozen penguins, where actually it's not that different to other forms of heavy internet use. everything we do has environmental costs.

WAIT HOLD ON I cannot fucking believe when I was like four years old my parents were cajoling me to walk with the family and trying to get me to keep up even though I kept insisting that I was "tired" until they took me to a doctor and found out my LUNGS DIDN'T WORK. how insane that we live in a world where reasonably loving parents think their FOUR YEAR OLD is trying to be LAZY. like they were mortified to be clear. adults are just so trained to ignore children's complaints as untrustworthy, kids just need discipline, they can't possibly speak for themselves. what the fuuuuck.
YOU ARE NOT IMMUNE BTW you should always be trying to take children seriously, especially very little ones but definitely all of them. the most disempowered class basically legally defined as property and most people are like "yeah that's good actually I hate when they Loiter lol they're stupid and loud and i actually think children should stop existing. restrict their personhood more actually"

puppy play but i’m some sort of endangered wolf who is sick and injured so a team of medical experts work around the clock to diagnose and fix me and they feed me an ideal diet and post photos of me on social media and everyone says “ooohhh awwwwwwww!!!!” and then i get released back to the wild because it’s the right thing to do and from then on i only occasionally show up on random trail cams and people say “yay!” and they leave me alone
