Ilia Malinin/Mikhail Shaidorov | 9.4k words | rated E | archive locked | Part 2 in the Tamagotchi series, immediate sequel to Your picture, double-tap
The moment he leans in and closes the distance between them, he knows he's going to hate himself for it later. Still, Mikhail closes his eyes and does it, and he has a thousand excuses ready as to why he did it. He did it because Ilia just kept talking and he had to make him shut up. Because they were already standing so close that he could feel his breath on his face. Because he said "I'm sorry." Because he looked angry and upset. Because he said "please." He does it, and later, he will lie to himself that he had hoped it would be one of those kisses that are nothing more than a violent clash of lips and teeth, over before they even began.
why thank you for asking:) this was totally not an engagement bait or anything
Anyway, the Summer Fling AU which doesn't have an official title yet is a story I've been thinking about for the past month and finally started writing yesterday. And it's an AU I haven't actually written yet in my sports rpf journey so far, so it's quite exciting: it's an AU in which one of them is not a professional athlete (gasp!)
The idea is that Ilia, who is not a figure skater in this fic, finds himself in a bit of a tough spot and does the most white boy thing about: goes on a trip to Asia. And as a part of that, he first heads to Uzbekistan to visit the country his parents lived in and represented back in the day, and then he heads to Kazakhstan because why shouldn't he take advantage of a 30-days long visa-free stay there. But instead of staying at a hotel, he decides to rent out a flat in Astana for the month - I think you can guess who the owner of the flat is:) And then shenanigans ensue, there will be some misunderstandings, chance meetings, a road trip (!)... a summer fling...
I'm very excited about it, to be honest! I think it will be rather light-hearted (as opposed to my last venture into this ship), it will (hopefully) be funny, but most importantly, it is a great excuse for me to do some research about a country I want to visit next year... It's peak self-indulgence!
Now, I can offer you very rough first paragraphs - enjoy!

It's 15 minutes past 7 PM and Ilia is getting increasingly [anxious] that he got scammed after all. He knows that he's at the right address; he's made sure of it roughly 20 times in the last 10 minutes by peeking out the corner and looking at the plaque at the side of the wall. It's written there in plain [Russian]: [Street Name]. He's double- and triple-checked if he's standing in front of the correct doors to the apartment complex. Yes, I am, Ilia nods to himself as he fiddles with his phone nervously, locking and unlocking it in quick succession. He decides to re-read the email with the confirmation of his stay here one more time. His eyes glaze over the greetings and focus on the practical instructions from Mikhail- or Misha, because that's how he signed off all the emails. "I'll meet you at 6 PM in front of the entrance," he wrote. "The doors have apartment numbers on them, you can't miss it."
Well, maybe I can? Ilia thinks, ready to blame himself for any sort of mix-up that must be happening here, not wanting to entertain the idea that he fell victim to an Airbnb scam after all. He really can't deal with that right now. He's tired from the flight, he's hungry and honestly, he just feels kind of gross in a way that's unmistakably linked to the fact that it's July, which is an unbearably hot month here in Astana, and he hasn't had access to a washing machine in a while. And that's not even all. Ilia also doesn't have data, his power bank is dead and his phone is not doing much better, so he feels at a loss about where to even begin looking for an alternative place to spend for the remaining 30 days of his stay in Kazakhstan. And then there's the money, of course. He's already paid for the flat, and yeah, sure, it was cheaper than a hotel, but still. He has a budget he fully intends on sticking to, especially if he wants to make it to Japan next month, and staying in a hotel when he's already paid a month's rent for a flat that may not exist after all will set him back. A wave of nausea comes over him and Ilia grips the handle of his suitcase tightly to steady himself.
it is always narratively correct to make your characters sleep together before they sort through the hundreds of lies and misdirections between them. make things worse make things worse make things worse #i love betrayal #i love lying #i love people feeling bad about themselves
it’s so cool he doesn’t even know he’s gay he just is so completely incapable of overriding his own desire to suck cock that he keeps doing it and thinking ah geez well that’s not really something that I’m supposed to be doing. I’m not gay I’m just fulfilling my base desire for gay sex which is a FAILING I am working through
