An attempt at an intro…
Howdy! I’m a writer and digital artist whose big dream is to publish her own comic book series, called I Am: Hero. It’s a project I’ve been working on since 2015 so there’s way too much to go over in a single post but I’ll do my best at giving a short overview:
It’s about figuring out who you are, or rather, who you’re not.
The main characters are Vincent Magnus, Ruby Sandz, Samuel (Sam) Lake, & Laurel Campion. They’re Flair teens with the elemental powers of fire, earth, water, and air respectively.
In this world, there are 3 types of humans: those born under the sun god Rasol and who can control fire, earth, & light. Those born under the moon god Ralun and who can control water, air, and shadow. And those born under the closed hands of Rasol and Ralun, and who have no control over any elements. Those with “powers” are collectively known as Flairs. While those without refer to themselves as Numari (actual name) or just as humans (usually with the intent to dehumanize or alienate Flairs).
The overall relationship between Flairs and Numari is strained, with some countries exercising strict laws governing the use of powers while other countries were built by and run by Flairs. Their history is also complex, but one war in particular resulted in the complete extinction of Light Flairs and left the remaining Solar Flairs extremely vulnerable. The Lunar Flairs partially blame the Solar Flairs for the war and the strained relationship with Numari. There’s a lot of tension…
The main characters live in something like a modern day USA (I keep going back and forth on making up a whole new world or just making it adjacent to real life, like Marvel or DC). The place they live in has fairly restrictive laws on what you can do with your powers, which basically means everything’s cool if everyone pretends to be Numari.
The story starts when the four teens find themselves at the center of a scheme to permanently rid Flairs of their powers. But when faced with the chance to remove their powers, will they find the possibility alluring and give in, or will they reject and rebel?
There’s still a /lot/ of work I need to do, especially in world building. This is something I plan on working on for many years. I want to make sure I have the skills and experience to execute it well, not to mention my goals are framed after the amazing storytelling in titles like Avatar the Last Airbender, Percy Jackson, Arcane, Haikyuu!, Invincible, My Hero Academia, and many more. I’m constantly trying to improve my writing skills, but I just hope most people will get to relate to and enjoy my stories, or at least enjoy the art in the meantime :)
