“dormful of idiots lovingly chase each other with plastic knives” that's pretty accurate description of cut and run!! That fic was hilarious and I loved the tiny notes describing who ended up killing whom and the murder rankings haha. Also loved iwa and suga's friendship! Waiting to read who gets the no 1 ranking!

oh dude, i the notes are my favourite too, but they’re also my doom, because coming up with clever or fun things is uhh surprisingly difficult :D i will probaby continue the fic once I have enough clever kills for the notes section... (and i’m glad you like the iwa & suga friendship, i live for it too!!)

12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about. 

It’s not a WIP yet but I recently saw this post and all I could think was “matsuhana would do this” so uhh. In more actually WIP terms I’m cautiously excited about potentially getting back into writing hp au #3!

26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try? 

Hmm I do run up against things from time to time, usually it’s stuff that I’d like to do but am afraid of messing up the research or the representation. I was thinking about making Oikawa’s knee injury a bigger thing in TLL3, for example, but then discarded that because I didn’t want to make it into a huge issue, but would have had to do a ton of research on post-accident disability, prostheses etc. that I don’t feel equipped to write well and respectfully about right now.

29. Have you ever gone outside of your comfort zone for a fic? How did it turn out? 

Oh man yes, I’ve never, in my 15-odd years of writing, written even an innocuous kiss scene! Only started doing that this year and it’s still very painful going during the drafting stage, but I’m not unhappy with how it’s turned out.

8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write? 

My first impulse was to say I’m kind of easy, I need to get used to a character and then they all work pretty well. But then I realised that’s not true and I just tend to emphasise certain characteristics and gloss over others that I find harder to write.

I do love Iwaizumi and his narrative voice comes to me comparably easily by now (after 4 years of writing him); certainly easier than, say, Oikawa’s even after the entirety of Archaeology. But in general it takes me a while to find a voice for a character, so I struggle with all of them at first until I’ve found something that feels true to them in a way.

22. Do you listen to anything while you write? 

Generally no - I have a weird relationship with audio input and it tends to distract me or annoy me more than it helps. Sometimes I do the opposite though, which is obsesively listen to one single song on repeat for day(s) while writing, until it becomes a kind of comfortable white noise that still imparts a certain rhythm. Needless to say, my Spotify Wrapped is not amused.

25. Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them! 

All the time!! They usually turn into sequels or spin-offs, or new chapters because that is one incredible plus side of not outlining lol you can just take your weird spin-offs and run with them. This is how said like laughter happened, i started thinking about the intro sentence from call me friend, looked at my really dramatic mental ‘what would happen if oikawa found out he’s iwa’s boggart’ scene, thought ‘no you literally need to contextualise this and take it seriously, but also not’, accidentally wrote 300 words of the library scene in the first chapter and then went ‘i wanted to write a get-together fic in this universe anyway so i guess this is it’.

Mostly I don’t daydream about plot though (the inability to plot extends to daydreams), but I love to think up worldbuilding or headcanons for characters or to flesh out characterisations - this is how the entire haikyuu hp verse happened, it’s spawned off a random try to map volleyball teams onto quidditch teams, and then suddenly i had a word doc full of random hogwarts headcanons that contain fuel for several more fics in the ‘long light’ verse, if i ever get around to writing them. most don’t become fics, but details in fics.

and it’s always, always character-led. even at 15 when i was writing middle-earth self-inserts like we all did in the year of our lord two thousand and seven i was putting aside the original story in favour of writing about the parents or children of side character #14 who talked about his mum once in a throaway sentence, because that turned out way more interesting anyway.

Most popular multi-chapter: if we talk single multi-chapter works it’s An Archaeology of Affection, which is very fine by me, because while I would do some things differently about it by now, it’s still the first multi-chapter fic I ever finished and my absolute baby

Fic you were nervous to post: I was definitely nervous to post Archaeology, because it’s very personal!

How you choose your titles: very hit or miss! I either have a perfect title, often before the first word of the fic is written, or the title is the worst piece of work of the entire thing and ends up feeling lacklustre despite hours of agonising over it

Do you outline: ahahahahahahaha no (i never learn. even when it comes back to bite me, like it (totally unsurprisingly) did with cut and run, i never learn. outlining sucks the life out of the fic for me, i cannot do it - or rather, i can, but then i never write another word.)

Do you take prompts: uhhh maybe? i’m very bad at writing for set ideas (writing prompt blogs do nothing for me), but occasionally something sparks off one so feel free to send me some, but please don’t be disappointed if i can’t write anything for one. i really am super bad at producing stuff on the spot.

You really managed to capture the essence of both Iwaizumi’s and Oikawa’s character. Fic Recs Masterpost

So, I was thinking about the coronavirus pandemic and what I could do to help people out. I’m isolated because I’m at higher risk, so I can’t really offer to go out for my elderly neighbors or my family… but I thought I could try to help keep people entertained.

Because I don’t have an AO3 account right now, I’ve been compiling fic recs for my own amusement for a year or so. And I thought – maybe that’s the time to share these with everyone? So everyone will have plenty of things to read while they have to stay at home, or even to escape anxiety a little bit if you’re forced to go out.

Of course, these cater to my own tastes, so you may find stuff you don’t like around here. I never include works in progress. The Mature and Explicit works will be in italic. I ask you to READ THE WORK’S TAGS before continuing, so you won’t find anything that makes you uncomfortable.

hiya! right now, filling out an extremely tedious form and thus procrastinating on tumblr. in general, i’m good, thanks for asking! <3 very busy with (mostly good) life things, so writing has unfortunately taken a bit of a back seat, but i’m hoping to get back to it soon once things settle into a bit more of a routine.
