Gonna be so honest atp I don't even care about the "secret third thing" (just call it a queerplatonic relationship I'm begging). I just think Grace and Stratt could have been good friends under different circumstances.

Specifically thinking about the book rn-

I think Eva kept her distance from any personal feelings during the project because she knew if she got attached she wouldn't be able to do what she eventually had to. She knew there would be tough decisions and choices that would haunt her, she knew there would be a lot of personal feelings she and the other staff on the project would be held back with- so she did her best to distance herself.

Book!Stratt is so fucking dear to me... she's so cold in a very specific way.

I think that she was scared to even consider Grace being her friend.

why is no one talking about the book reunion scene. did you know when grace explains that he’s going to die of starvation, rocky immediately tells him to leave and go back home, that he’ll just keep waiting, that erid might send another ship someday. i’m going crazy. rocky had probably completely accepted his fate and then grace miraculously appeared and gave him back his life and his home. and he was instantly willing to give it all up again just so grace could survive. can anyone hear me. this is insane. i’m insane

Was thinking about my other post and how in the book Stratt has to hunt down a scientist and imagine you're Eva Stratt, right, and you are going to some of the best scientists in the best labs in the world and they keep recommending you to this Dr. Ryland Grace and you're trying to figure out which lab or university he must be with and nobody in the field actually knows where he wound up 'after what happenned' they allude, and so you have your guys do their background investigation and track this alleged top molecular biologist down all to find out.....

He's a middle school teacher.

The relief she must have felt to find out he was shut out of academia and wasn't, like, a bizarre hoax.
