A few of the more creative spellings of Christmas I’ve come across while looking for Dear Santa letters in old newspapers this year.

There's a hotd fanfic trend on Tiktok going around at the moment that is just dunking on a lot of fanfiction tropes. They paint oc's named Visenya as 'cringe,' and the trope of the character claiming the cannibal and being a 'girlboss feminist,' as well as the trope of Aemond betraying his family for her and just generally dunking on a lot of used tropes that are found within this community.

And I find it really discouraging, even if the dunking of tropes doesn't necessarily involve my story. I think it's mean to pick on these tropes and stories just to elevate your own and more so, I think it discourages a lot of new writers from posting their fics or making writers feel bad for their stories that involve these tropes.

It takes a lot of courage to post your fics and share them with the world, and fics are a labor of love, it is something the writer cares about and it shouldn't be discouraged. A lot of new writers fall into these tropes--I have fallen into them--and we should allow for it to happen because that's how we grow and learn as writers.

If the fic doesn't suit you, you close it and move on.

Don't discourage writers and their stories.
