Honeycomb Lions are a popular familiar for witches, being simple to conjure and pleasing to the eye. However, they require a considerable amount of work to maintain and are often abandoned to the wilds. Left alone and without care, they begin to decay, their bodies only held together by an increasingly unkempt beehive.
We’re only finding out recently that a lot of animals have colors and patterns that we cannot see because they’re outside of our visual range. It calls to attention how much of the world we can’t experience because our senses are limited. When we shine UV lights on them, they glow pink or blue, but these are the colors that we CAN see…. they could be a bunch of different colors, which we SEE as all pink. It’s also interesting to consider that most of these animals are not aware of having glowing patches on their bodies…. isn’t it also possible that we have skin or hair patterns that were not aware of? . . (There is actually some research out there to support the idea that our own skin fluoresces as well and that there are gender differences in the pattern and glow.) Humans do have invisible stripes! They’re called Blaschko’s Lines, formed as skin cells divide at the embryonic stage. Normally we can’t see them at all, though certain skin conditions follow those same lines.
Apparently this is roughly what we’d look like, if our eyes could see in a different spectrum:
Dunno about you, but I want to use this in a story someday. Aliens can see our stripes and we can’t! Magical transformations follow Blaschko’s Lines! A subtle sign of lycanthropy is darker hair there! Wizards are bald with that cool spiral on their heads!
Speculative fiction is so much more fun when you can speculate about something strange but true.
THIS??? IS THE COOLEST???? SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY EVER??????????? AAAAAAAA THAT IS FLIPPING AWESOME!!!!!
Beautiful raccoon skull and paw I snagged on the river today fishing. Most of the teeth are gone from being in the river, and the back of the skull is very fleshy, but I'm pretty pumped. I put it under a flowerpot to let some buggies get at it. This is the first skull I've ever found with intact jawbones. And yes, I took it home on a bus.
I can't believe this mushroom sprouted right where it did. Blessed.
I never posted the owl pellet bones once they came out of the peroxide bath! All rodents. I am making tiny terrariums with some skulls, does anyone have any other ideas? They are just so small!
Tiny Mous.e we mummified last year on site in a grit bin. Not in the best condition but still cute!

That’s not quite true. The reporter behind the story, Daphne Caruana Galizia, was murdered.
After mass protests, the Prime Minister of Iceland was forced to resign, along with many other members of the ruling party.
After mass protests, the President of Pakistan was forced to resign, along with many other members of the ruling party.
Worldwide, hundreds of people – many rich and powerful – were arrested.
Billions in stolen assets were returned to the people.
And 82 countries changed their laws to crack down on the wealth hoarding the papers revealed.
(Source here)
To say the Panama Papers accomplished nothing is an insult to Daphne Galizia’s memory. Her work, and the work of the hundreds of other journalists who contributed to the Papers, changed the world.
Disinformation like this is designed to discourage you, to make you feel you’re powerless against the monsters of the world. They want you to feel that way, because they are terrified of your power to make change.
Take your power back. Demand better. Keep fighting for a better world, because a better world is possible.
No gay has all 5:
- A job
- Good relationship with father
- Neurotypical brain
- Ability to top
- Driver’s license
this is a fun post because people will say how many they have in the tags then you get to figure out which ones.
Hey, gay working class and gay rural interests, aesthetics, and culture belong within the wider LGBT+ community. Country music belongs in gay spaces. Camo and trucker caps and work boots belong in gay spaces. Trucks and doorless jeeps and shitty old beaters belong in gay spaces. GEDs and high school educations and blue collar jobs belong in gay spaces. Being broke and looking like shit belongs in gay spaces. The community isn’t owned by the wealthiest San Fransisco and New York gay-geoisie. Their interests, appearances, and beliefs do not define queerness.
salt preserved baby rabbit arm!
I found this in my driveway along with the rabbit’s heart (I didn’t keep it) so I decided to try salt curing for the first time. six weeks later I think it worked really well! I can feel all the little paw bones and the claws under the skin, and the fur is super soft
Teeny tiny baby deer bones I found a few weeks ago. Regular sized toothbrush for scale. I wonder if they were stillborn?
It's peroxide time!
Tiniest terrarium I made. It is a rodent skull from an owl pellet with moss, all inside a 1940's-50's antihistamine bottle I found in the woods.
