There was a certain point, late in the night, when Gotham did in fact reach a point of calm. In the early morning hours, when all activity slowed to a standstill, the rooftops and streets each held their own special liminality that demanded deviation from normal patrol routes.

This was her favorite part of the night, when most of the family agreed to take a break, and unwind with a game of hide and seek.

When she was the seeker, the game was usually over before even a quarter hour was up.

When she was hiding, however… Well… 

Tonight she was immensely enjoying the quiet, in the alleyway she concealed herself in. The light from the street didn’t quite reach the corner where she sat, not too close to the ground, but not too far up the fire escape as to be noticeable. Every few minutes she would readjust her posture, causing the metal to groan with the wind, and counting the seconds between when she last saw the shadow of one of her siblings pass over from the rooftops above. She considered enabling her comm unit when a considerable amount of time had passed, but held off.

Her streak was already going so well, why tarnish it now? 

When she heard the metal groan as a new weight joined her perch, though, she stood up in alarm.

Only to find her girlfriend chanting out a string of expletives in surprise.

“I should’ve known you’d be nearby but-” Raven eventually laughed lightly as she tried to catch her breath.

Cass wordlessly took her hand, encouraging the empath to take a seat with her. She let her legs dangle past the railing, kicking her feet as she waited patiently. Raven eventually complied, crossing her legs in her familiar meditative pose, adjusting her grip on Cass’ hand until their fingers were interlocking.

They sat in silence like that for a minute, before Raven broke it with a long-suffering sigh.

“They gave up looking for you, you know.”

Cass only smiled as she reached up to take off her mask, turning so Raven could see the look of glee in her eyes.

“I never lose,” she said triumphantly.

“Well… maybe against your family,” Raven teased, bumping her shoulder against the Bat’s, “But I’ll always be able to find you.”

“You have powers, though,” Cass whispered, leaning forward, “That’s cheating.”

Raven leaned in kind until their foreheads were touching one another.

“And using your ninja skills to give your family the run-around… Isn’t cheating?”

“Nope. Not when they all have ninja skills, too.”

“Fair point,” she hummed.

The Bat gave a smile as she saw Raven’s hand reaching up to tilt her chin, meeting her lips eagerly in kind. It was a short, thrilling kiss, stopped when Cass could feel the thrum of Raven’s powers zapping at her fingertips, dancing along where they held hands. She gave a gasp of surprise, but held the empath’s hand tighter in reassurance.

“Sorry,” she apologized shyly, a light blush spreading across her cheeks.

Cass smiled wide, “It’s okay.” She gave her a light peck on her cheek before leaning her head atop Raven’s shoulder.

“It’s okay.”

They sat on that fire escape in companionable silence, watching as the dawn began to paint the building opposite of them.

(You’re absolutely valid friend!!!) It’s wild bc i DO see them as endgame in a lot of ‘verses but I’ve never thought abt their wedding till now aksjka so HERE WE GO

The proposal was pretty spontaneous, and Cass (who by this point has Been To Weddings but never rlly paid much attention to the work that went into it) thinks that it’s just a matter of picking a day and waiting

Bless her heart, but Rae knows the Work and takes charge with most things (jotting down a list for Cass’ Broom Party and making a note that Steph would absolutely be Cass’ Maid of Honor)

(Cass isn’t a Bride & isn’t a Groom. She’s a Broom)

Subsequently Steph’s the one helping nudge Cass in the right direction when it comes to helping with the wedding aksjak

It’s a small ceremony & reception!! Mostly Bats & Titans obvsly.

Instead of Traditional White Dress & Black Suit, they switch it up & Dress in Each Others Fav Colors (So Ravens dress is 99% black with yellow accents/finishes/etc and yellow roses & marigolds in her bouquet, while Cass’ suit is a gorgeous navy with a white rose in her boutonnière & also in her bouquet.

Ravens the first to walk down the aisle & absolutely cries the entire rest of the ceremony from as soon as she sees Cass to when they finally walk together (they’re subdued, happy tears okay?? SHES EARNED THEM)

Cass insists both Babs and Bruce are the ones to walk her down & ‘give her away’.

Instead of a traditional ‘first dance’ together, Steph changes into Cass’ suit and Dances with Raven (“Me n Cass are a Package Deal, Rae. When you marry her you Also Got Me”<- opener for her Toast obvsly) they didn’t tell anyone that that was the plan so it was a Fun Surprise

Cass convinces Tim to come outta retirement to sub for her as Batman while they’re on their honeymoon but it’s shortlived since both Rae n Cass miss Gotham too much to leave it alone for long

It was a stealth mission. Because these kinds of things always occur on a stealth mission. Despite her best efforts, Cassandra really couldn’t help herself. It would be too easy to take out the perps as silently as possible, without alerting the rest of their companions. It would be too simple to go at them individually around the building, not letting a single one have a clue about what was to come.

But she much preferred hearing the fear in their voices, and seeing sheer terror take hold in their frames as they made more and more simple mistakes.
