it turns out i really enjoy making educational posts about the comics making process and ways of thinking. here's another one featuring characters from my graphic novel in a very anachronistic art museum.

Oh, this is a type of shorthand!
There are 3 main types, but from my research, this looks to be American Gregg Shorthand.
As you can see, there are set symbols for every letter.
Letâs break one of the words down:
Using the Gregg Alphabet as reference, we can see most of the letters in âatrophiedâ are present. But why no âoâ vowel, and why is âphâ written as âfâ?
Simple. In shorthand, you cut out all vowels in a word when writing it down, with the exception of words that BEGIN or END with a vowel (hence the âaâ at the start being present), or like in the âiâ in âatrophiedâ, to make it more readable when the sound could be harder to distinguish if it isnât written. In âatrophiedâ if the the âiâ isnât written, it could be hard to tell if the writer meant a âfudâ, âfadâ, âfodâ or âfidâ sound, for example.
Also, since Shorthand is a phonetic writing system, you are encouraged to write down the phonetic sounds of words rather than the actual letter blends - in this case, write an âfâ instead of a âphâ.
So in actuality, these arenât just meaningless scribbles - itâs Gregg Shorthand, a writing system developed to take down notes more quickly than when written out in full, which is very useful in a medical or journalistic environment.
Some people can even write over 100 words in a minute! And, itâs been in use since John Robert Gregg invented it in 1888! Wow! So old!
Isnât language amazing~?
I feel like this is an unpopular opinion, but more people should read incomplete/unfinished/in-progress fanfics.
I've noticed this huge trend where creators on tiktok and tumblr who will be explaining how to use Archive Of Our Own to new users and they always say "and make sure to scroll down and click completed only" or how people will go out of their way to mention they only read completed fics 'because they were traumatized when they forgot to check the dates and didn't realize this fic hadn't been updated since 2012'.
The thing is - I think by not engaging with and/or actively avoiding writer's WIPs readers are potentially adding to the aggregate of abandoned works. Now this obviously isn't the case for all abandoned fics, anything from major life events, to loss of interest, to getting busy can be a reason for a fic getting abandoned - but at least on some level I just know that writers are quitting while they're ahead when they aren't garnering any response or feedback because reading WIPs has become unpopular. If you're worried about reading something that hasn't been updated since 2012 then you can use the date updated function to sort out old fics.
Anyways, support your favorite fanfic writers by engaging with their WIPs.
Legit, getting a subscription on a fic I'd abandoned 10 years earlier spurred me into action to finish it (and write a sequel!)
#The journey of reading a fic while it's updating is part of the fun!
Yes exactly this! I love subscribing to fics forgetting about them a bit and then being pleasantly surprised when they update again and they show up in my inbox. It makes me feel like I'm a Charles Dickens fan living in 1830s London waiting patiently for his new chapter to be released via the daily paper.
hey sorry not to be an asshole but I saw someone say that a sports team posting about pride month was "pandering" and I need you to log off and touch grass because now more than EVER it's important that large institutions (and especially those that could easily be right wing like sports teams) show the fuck up for queer and trans people. especially trans people. so no it is not "pandering" to take a stand for a marginalized group of people that are currently under attack for trying to play sports. be so fucking for real
here's a tip about war: Don't fight the people who are on your side
one day Iâll play with Garrett. He seems like my type.
we were talking about the criminalization of homosexuality in class and my professor (who as far as i know isn't in any way queer) said something i quite enjoyed in that. well the exchange was more or less this: a student asked a question (doesn't really matter what exactly just know that i was rolling my eyes So hard internally) and the prof looked at the student and was like (i'm paraphrasing here this conversation was not in english) Do you have any queer friends? and the student went Uhhhh in a manner that made it clear the answer was probably no and the prof said Actually statistically speaking you most likely do. If I had to divide this room into two groups the way to do it would not be "people with queer friends" and "people without queer friends" it would be "people whose queer friends are out to them" and "people whose queer friends aren't". And if you're in the latter category you should consider why that is--if maybe your behavior is indicating to the queer people around you that you're not safe to come out to. to come back to your question if you really want to know about queerness there's a very simple way of doing that: you make yourself a person queer people feel comfortable talking to about their experiences and then you fucking listen to them when they do (the fuck is not paraphrased) (there was a fuck involved) (frankly king shit)

sometimes i get really into the idea of strange ml AUs where the secret identities are all over the place (for unexplained reasons, dw about it). like AUs were somehow Marinette doesn't know Rena Rouge's identity and stuff, or AUs even where they've never met outside of being superheroes. Stuff like the core four meeting each other outside of their masks for the first time at Djwifi's wedding (djwifi being the only pair that had previously revealed), or Rena Rouge, Carapace, Ladybug, and Chat Noir all deciding to move in together for some unexplained superhero reason and then having to meet and get to know each other all under the masks at once. I just think it's cute. anything for more OT4 reveals

Shoutout to my dad who accidentally moved into an up and coming black lgbt neighborhood and was very disappointed to learn that all of his ânew friendsâ werenât actually interested in how to use iNaturalist or where he saw coyotes on his walks đđđ»
You misunderstand. My father has accidentally been on multiple dates now with multiple guys he was hoping wanted to be friends đ
Oh bless him
hey friends where is that picture of boromir with the gondor flag except its a pride flag?
Couldnât find it so I made another because youâre right that itâs a crime and itâs definitely my duty to remedy it
honestly i never thought the phrase âi want that twink obliteratedâ was like a sexual thing. like when i read the phrase i imagine âa meteor like the one that killed the dinosaurs is summoned from the heavens and hits the twink in questionâ type situation
Wait, it's a sex thing? I've always assumed it was a supervillain giving his henchman orders to destroy the lithe young hero invading his evil lair.
Yes exactly!
