pb’s been circling the drain for a while and it’s pretty funny watching everyone jump ship now. thought i’d make a quiz to commemorate, so come gimme some opinions on choices and i’ll tell you how brain-dead you are

Reasons why Caleb Mitchell is the sweetest LI ever:

Is a jock and plays sports, but is open to trying new things and making friends outside of his teams.

He's a gentle soul and very in tune with his emotions, knowing how to express them properly (never taking anything out on his friends, communicating with his peers, etc.)

Despite being on many sports teams and hanging around Brian, he never shows any toxic masculine traits but is still the average teenage boy, comfortable in his masculinity.

He enjoys baking, he gets excited shopping for his prom outfit, and shows other non-traditional hobbies/traits that most would call feminine.

The first LI I've seen that after getting heartbroken in some way, outright tells the MC that A.) He will not be able to be a comitted partner in a new relationship until he works on himself. And B.) Doesn't tell the MC to 'wait for them' and is fine with just being friends.

When he rejects Emma after she tells him how he feels, he isn't disgusted or freaked out--he tells her the same thing about not being ready to start dating again, and doesn't make her feel less than. Emma is arguably one of his closest friends besides MC and his team mates.

Despite it not being his fault, he apologies for Brian's behaviour which can be seen as enabling him--but he has such a big heart.

Even though Michael had a 'reputation' at school, he gave him a chance and encouraged him to play football and even when Michael doesn't play basketball or baseball in the later books, they still hang out and are close.

Even after their breakup, Caleb never really has anything 'bad' to say about Zoe. He's angry and rightfully so, but never calls her names (that I can remember) or things like that, simply wanting closure in the 3rd book and finally makes some sort of peace with it.

He's just so sweet and gentle and I love him so much, okay??

seeing choices turn into one of those generic sex-centered story apps is soooo frustrating because it was such a breath of fresh air when it first launched and was so different to Episode's hollow stories. like they actually published interesting diverse stories that had engaging plots and likeable characters. now everything's just 'steamy' and 'scandalous' but has no actual plot.

to me anyway, the problem with ayna being the traitor isn't the actual betrayal itself. having a li betray the mc is actually interesting if done correctly. the problem is that a character of colour & especially a woc has been treated as disposable by pb yet again.

they have done nothing to develop ayna nor do they actually give a fuck about her. it's almost as if despite her being a li they don't actually want anyone to romance her so that when she betrays the mc no one would care. & then even her explanation and the reason why she betrays the mc is paywalled.

blaine has a constant presence in the story being the child of the rival country. so does tatum being the mc's childhood best friend turned bodyguard. & ayna's presence is purely to be a traitor.

idk its just exhausting having pb do this over & over again & i am begging them to give it a rest.

can't stop thinking about how nick knows button inside out and just. does not shame them for any of it. obviously he's their brother, the urge to clown is there, but nick treats button's secrets and thoughts with care? he doesn't use them as blackmail or hold it over their head and i know some people would say that's bare minimum of respect but honestly? nick is the person i'd trust with my thoughts. he bends over backwards to make sure his sibling is safe, both physically and mentally, to make sure button knows their thoughts and whims are secrets are safe with him no matter what, and he respects button's boundaries first and foremost and idk its a very refreshing sibling dynamic imo

I think the big issue with the way the secondary routes turned out had a lot to do with the devs letting the fans take too much control over the direction of the story, and made the misguided decision to try to engage a dwindling fandom through canonizing their fanon and jokes. Giving the fans what they want is a double edged sword. Somehow the routes felt both pandering and aimless at the same time, exactly what you find when you let fans, rather than an experienced team of storytellers, decide the plot elements of your storyboard. I know there's incredible pressure to satisfy fans, and show them what they want to see, but you can't let the consumer dictate the story you're telling, otherwise you end up with no story at all.
