( I am so happy with, and proud of this blog. )
WAITRESS.
Olive looks up when she hears the tinkle of the bell. She sees a man enter, though he looks like he might not be entirely sure where he’s walking and could easily have come by accident. She hopped off of her seat, shuffling up to greet him.
“Can I help ya?”
Ray doesn’t flinch or move at all when he hears the cheerful voice of the waitress. He was sure she was a very lovely lady, but he wanted to look at her and say “Nobody can help me.”
Instead he just sighs a little bit and says.
“ Coffee to start. Black. “
FLEURETTE.
It was perhaps the best medical care that she had received in months (if any at all). Though it could not surpass the observance of those who had been under the PROJECT’s employ, it was no less appreciated. Well—in a sense, it was. She had been disconcertingly numb for all the procedures; from the tending to her cuts and bruises, the nursing of what few cracked ribs and fractures in one leg, it was any wonder that the woman could walk at all. Speak, yes, she could have done that—but she did not.
She was as silent as the day that they had found her. Perhaps it came with the resignation that the government would undoubtedly come for her a second time; to reclaim the stolen property. Or perhaps it was the fact that, in the aftermath of such indecencies, she was attuned again to the voices. These were not the monotonous, numbed minds of scientists and doctors, stripped of their humanity. Thoughts, emotions, memories—she heard them all, a constant flow of peoples’ minds, uninhibited. Hers was a consciousness tied to all.
And it was AGONISING.
❝I remember you.❞
The voice was small, timid as it had been before. Her face had been vacant, blind eyes seemingly stuck to her bruised and fragile hands sat in her lap atop the hospital blanket.
❝Adult, male, somewhere in the mid-thirties. I could tell from your footsteps before you even talked. I thought that you had been one of them.❞
He is dead silent when he hears the small woman speak. He wasn’t sure what he was expecting to hear come off her lips, but it most certainly wasn’t that voice. It was so small, so fragile, almost as broken as the cracks on her skin.
He almost shudders.
Instead, he grabs the chair that was sitting against he wall by the door, and drags it beside the hospital bed. He lets the terrible sound of the wooden legs dragging across the hospital floor ring through the room, and he sits down on the chair.
Ray lets out a soft sigh and nods.
“ Spot on. “ he compliments her. Not that she was looking for a compliment, he knows that her other senses would be heightened due to her blindness, nevertheless, Ray found it incredibly impressive.
“ I’m one of the good guys, “ he said, clearing his throat a little bit. He almost wanted to laugh at himself, saying that he was a good guy. In a sense, it was a dirty fucking lie. He was a terrible human being as a rule, he was awful from the inside out and he didn’t know how to be any other way.
But this wasn’t one of those cases where he had to be the bad guy. This time, he really wanted to be the good guy, he wanted to help this woman.
He clears his throat again, it’s dry because he’s so nervous, and wipes his sweaty palms on his jeans.
“ Would you ----- did you with any detail in particular, or would you prefer a better prompt? “ he’s fumbling like it was his first day on the job, but he tries to pretend he’s not.
STRANGER.
Relief fell over her at the fact that Bear had been on his best behavior, considering that he had gotten into a bit of a naughty spell. Digging holes in the ground and running off from her were only a few things that he had been trying to get away with.
“Well that’s a relief,” she answered with a kind smile as Bear moved towards her with his tail still wagging as if he’d done nothing wrong, “Bear’s been on a little bad behavior streak, must be the terrible twos going on with him.”
Ray chuckles, again, “ I usually have the opposite effect on animals, they tend to not be my biggest fan, so it was kinda nice meeting a dog that came just wanting to be pet and give me love. You got yourself a real nice dog. “
Ray knows why animals generally don’t like him. He knows that he isn’t a good man, that he isn’t someone animals would ever trust, but he doesn’t divulge that information to the stranger, he figured he didn’t want to scare her, and make her think she was standing next to someone who might hurt her. That was the last thing he wanted.
He almost started to walk away, let the woman continue with her dog in peace. But he couldn’t seem to possibly drag himself away just yet.
“ What’s your name? “ he asks with a small smile.

STRANGER.
“Hm, maybe you’re right… after all, you haven’t got a UNIFORM, as such– and where’s the fun in that?”
Sameness; a tool to make the feeble-minded identify themselves as part of a community, part of something bigger. Order, structure, discipline. A uniform was the Average Joe’s war paint.
“Gotta love a man in uniform.”
Ray quirks his brows curiously at the woman before him, and folds his arms over his chest. “ Uniform? Really? I hated having to wear those monkey suits. “
He was completely serious, he hated ever having to wear a uniform. They were often uncomfortable, and it was so much easier to just wear his own clothes. Though, the downside was that he ruined a lot of clothes this way.
“ Men with uniforms are trouble. “ he teased, slightly sarcastically.
FREDDY.
‘ naw, of course not. ’ freddy shrugs, despite the knowledge that the bad things were – certainly not great. ‘ but it’s nice to meet ya’ anyway. it’s uh; refreshing to talk to people in different departments y’know? don’t get to interact with cops much in my field. ’
He chuckles. Oddly enough he’s genuinely pleased that the young cop hadn’t just heard bad things about him, but he wanted to question the validity of the information; he didn’t know many people who had nice things to say about him.
He nods his head in agreement, tucking his hands in his pockets. “ I’m not usually the type who finds interaction with anyone exciting but, “ he smiles “ It’s refreshing seeing promising young cops. I bet you could kick my ass in a hurry. “
@strcngernow ━ STARTER CALL.
“ Uh ----------- “ Ray doesn’t usually interject in the lives of someone he doesn’t know unless he’s on duty, but there was something about the air of the woman, the way she seemed so distraught, that Ray felt the need to see if she was actually okay. “ Are you okay, ma’am? “
( I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT RAY AND I HAVE TO HAVE THEM ALL BY MYSELF. I AM IN AGONY. )
@whatsthepoop ━ STARTER CALL.
Ray is distracted. Nothing absolutely abnormal, he’s usually somewhere else, despite being physically present, but he isn’t always thinking about anything. He actually prefers to do the opposite. But for some reason, Ray doesn’t find himself in his usual go-to place ( the bar ), he finds himself seated in a booth, in the corner of a Pie shop.
All he can think about is eating a fucking piece of pie, and drinking a cup of coffee.
( tbh, i fucking love Ray’s voice. so raspy. )
( I still have 2 more starters to do, but I’ll do them tomorrow! Love y’all! Have a great night/day/whatever. Feel free to go like my starter call if you wanna do a thing, or come plot!! )
