bikmuiâ:
Ao Bimei blinked as they looked upon the mortal, disgust plain as they turned away from him. Ah, they should never have expected any better! Pretty as Lia Ruan was, he was just the same as every other mortal they ever had come across - begging for something in return for their services. It truly was an insult to both pride and themselves, as an individual!Â
They hissed. âOf course. All mortals would demand something in return, no matter how they have been blessed. Humans truly are a scourge, with little understanding of their place within the realms. Forget it. I have been a fool if I was to think that any mortal would ever exist, without demanding something of me first.â
Indeed, they glanced down upon the blade which hung from their side, a curiosity welling up within them as they wondered if they should simply cut down this human for his insolence. Ah, well, it would only be a waste of a good blade, and besides, they themselves hungered too (damn this mortal form and all that it demanded!) and it would perhaps be best to keep their anger in check - at least until they next found foodâŠÂ
âHumans truly all are the same!â
Perplexed at what he could have done wrong to provoke such a look of disgust, Lia Ruan purses his lips together into a pout. Itâs actually somewhat offensive to be lumped in with everyone else when he knew otherwise. There was a certain pride among demonic cultivators, even the most timid.
And so he reaches out to grab hold of one of the godâs sleeves, eyes wide and puppylike as he gazes at them. The last thing he was going to allow to happen was for this situation to end with a divine being disgusted and angry with him!
âI didnât mean to offend, it is simply... I...â He is about to blather on with an excuse when an unmistakable grumbling reaches his ears. That wasnât his stomach! Eyes widen in momentary shock before he lowers his head - were they just as hungry as he was? That might explain a few things... of course the sort of god that would show themselves to him would be one so disadvantaged, right? Just his luck
âAh... m-my apologies... I may have made some unfitting assumptions. If it helps, I might be able to offer you food? So long as your divinity does not mind how it is obtained.âÂ
There were many things Lia Ruan had done in the past in order to secure a meal. With his cultivation he could go several days longer than the average human without eating but that did little for his health. Testing the waters here was his only real option... hopefully this god would calm and accept the offering.
bikmuiâ:
Ao Bimei blinked as they processed his words. Eat? Well, they supposed it was in a way only a natural assumption - it was hardly as if they were opposed to consuming human flesh, no matter how they considered it beneath them.Â
Still, they hardly could contain the laugh which bubbled up from deep within them, amused beyond measure at how Lia Ruan quivered before them and begged for his life. It was a sight they had missed, having lost their power at Ireliaâs cruel hands and thus unable to revel in the strength they once had held within their hands. Ah, Lia Ruan truly was a gift!
âI have no desire to eat you, mortal,â they said softly, as earnestly as they could manage. âI wish to undress you and admire the beauty that you have hidden beneath these clothes you wear. I wish to enjoy myself with your presence, and perhaps find repose in your arms, too.â
They smirked.Â
âUnless you find that objectionable?â
Oh thank his ancestors that he would not have to attempt to fend off a god! The petite man lets out a visible sigh of relief, far more at ease with someone seeking his body for reasons that did not include death or torture.
That said, there was one small issue standing - the rumbling in his own stomach. There were bargains to be made!
âAh, sir god! You must understand that while I have no objections, I do have conditions.â He bows and presses his hands together as if praying, fan stuck awkwardly between the finger and thumb of one hand. âThis pitiable cultivator you see is indeed quite poor and hungry. If you would take me to the eatery I love then, mn...â
He straightens his posture with an almost shameless smile (for he is indeed very grateful that this has taken a turn he can handle) and places a hand firmly on his own chest, âWith that bit of charity and a soft, warm place to spend the night I will offer you my body as you desire. Is that a fair trade for one of your stature?â
bikmuiâ:
Ao Bimei tilted their head, a pleased purr escaping them as they gazed upon the mortalâs face. They enjoyed how shy the mortal had become after admitting how truly beautiful they were - oh, they easily could hear this a hundred times more. Indeed, they leant in closer still, a smug smile playing across their features as they gazed upon Lia Ruanâs half-hidden face.Â
âMortals with beauty enough to capture my attention are few and far between,â they said softly, yearning to reach out and see if his cheek was truly as soft as it seemed. Wondering what his hair would feel between curious fingers and what his body would feel like, pressed against their own, held in hands dedicated to expressing only their true feelings towards beauty.Â
âThose with enough sense to recognise me for what I am are rarer still. You are of a rare breed of mortal I thought impossible, yet serendipity would allow us this meeting.â Ao Bimei hummed softly. âA pretty name indeed, befitting one such as yourself.â
It was rare that they cared to learn anotherâs name - after all, what was the point in doing so, when they themselves were the most important in any given situation? Besides, it could hardly be expected of them to remember the names of those they came across, certainly not when all these other creatures were so terribly beneath them. Yet perhaps, for this mortal, they might make an effort.Â
They had yet to truly decide.Â
âHide your face no longer, Lia Ruan. It is a pleasing visage, and one upon which I wish to gaze. I wish to⊠acquaint myself with this intriguing mortal before me.â
A smirk.Â
âIn a more intimate manner too, of course.â
They look like they want to eat me.
The grip on his fan tightens just a little, the sharp bladed edge reflecting light as he takes a shaky step back. Gods.. donât eat people, right? Then again, is there a difference between gods and hungry demonic ghosts? Itâs not a terribly productive line of panicked reasoning but he canât help himself from thinking it.
âAhaha... intriguing. I suppose so.â A nod as fuxing is lowered to his chest. If things became dangerous he could probably quickly pin their feet to the ground and flee, yet he had no desire to anger the gods. Near-immortal cultivators and sect leaders were terrifying enough without throwing the divine into the mix.
âBut if youâre thinking I might look good to eat, I implore you to revisit the idea. Iâm nothing but skin and bones under all these robes, you see.. Not even the spider monsters want to eat me.â A nervous laugh as he holds the closed fan to his chest. âThat is to say, you just look hungry. That look is very intense... So can I convince you otherwise?â
Headcanon:Â Red binding thread
As mentioned in a previous headcanon, the blood-red thread Ruan uses in most verses is an incredibly durable and is not easily snapped or cut except by powerful spiritual blades.
He first developed a prototype of the thread when looking for material with which to repair Jin Yangâs body. Eventually he came across massive webs woven by a species of spider monster that lived in the same forest and managed to make thread from the harvested silk.
The refined thread heâs developed over the years is one that combines the spider silk with a ritual involving his own blood, one similar to the blood ritual he uses in order to activate Fuxingâs dead-raising properties.Â
His needles, on the other hand, were carved from whatever he could get his hands on at the moment. Some are made from wood, boar tusks, various hard stones or even bone. As long as heâs able to make them sharp enough to pierce skin the rest doesnât matter.
@bikmui from [x]
Thereâs a palpable silence and hesitation in Lia Ruanâs demeanor when his question is answered in the affirmative. While the stranger before him gave off an aura of something greater, something that made the very depths of his ill-forged cultivation scream in retaliation, he had not expected the person to respond in this way.
Quickly he fans out Fuxing and shields the lower half of his face with the fan, all too embarrassed that his drunken words had wound up drawing the attention of one so beautifully divine. Were he more sober he might have thought to run, or to do something other than stare in silent awe for a moment.
âI- ah. I merely took a guess. You appear mortal and yet...â His words trail for a moment before he takes a breath and blurts out his true opinion on the matter. âNo human could be so breathtaking!âÂ
Truly, he had only meant to flirt a little as he often did when drinking alone. It could sometimes land him a warm bed for the night, or at the very least a lead to another job. Instead he found himself almost shrinking beneath their gaze, feeling not half as bold as when heâd made the initial statement, fanning himself to cool his nerves.
Then he recalled heâd been asked his name as well.
âThis big sister is called Lia Ruan, I am a travelling cultivator and... medic.â Of sorts. Saying âdemonic cultivatorâ where others might hear would be immediately regrettable. âI often work with those nearing death, so I am accustomed to the presence of those who are not of this realm.â
feiyancaoâ:
{ â }Â Their song drew to a close on a soft and gentle note, and she too smiled at the recollection. âThat is true, though really: how long was I ever really able to deny you?â She chuckled lightly as she lowered her dizi.Â
How often she had said ânoâ indeed, but that was just her upbringing talking. Inevitably her curiosity and her own impetuous streak would get the better of her, and she would wind up running along with their plans. Even so far as to sneaking up to the pavilion to play for them beneath the window, or to smuggle them sweets when they were confined to those long hours of copying texts⊠those days had been so simple, so bright.Â
âI would like that very much, and you know you are always welcome here, anytime.â She nodded with enthusiasm after placing Youyi back upon the shelf.Â
ââŠWhich reminds me, were you limping when you came in? Beside that, if you have any other hurts or aches, I can have a look for you. Iâm not expecting patients today.â
Anytime...Â
How stupid of him, to think a token gift would be enough. He had hoped he could leave it and the promise of a return and that it would simply be enough for her. That the idea he might walk through this door once he walked out of it tomorrow would be more than a stupid, empty promise meant to soothe what he knew was inevitable.
These thoughts drowned out her words of concern as he sat staring at the empty bowl before him, gaze once unfocused as he pushed the swelling negativity back down. not now. He willed it. Not here.
Eventually Xianhuaâs concerned stare breaks through and he returns to the present.Â
Iâm an idiot.Â
âIâm... A-hua, Iâm so sorry...â That expectant smile, how pleased she was just now.... her current concern about any potential injuries. How could he think he could just get away with this?
âI came here because I wanted to leave you with a good memory... Iâm an idiot. I thought maybe itâd be enough, but ... you keep looking at me like that. H-how am I supposed to keep this up when you look at me like that!?â
Xianhua was always strong, always doing her best to keep everything together even when Ruanâs actions constantly put stress on what could be considered âproperâ for one of her upbringing to condone. How often had he lied about everything going on in his life just so she could believe he was doing alright?
He clenches his fists in his lap and draws a deep breath. If he doesnât get it off his chest now heâll never be able to rest.
âI donât know how much longer I can control it. Itâs swelling up and... I-I know itâll consume me any day now. When it does I... well, I really donât know what will happen to me. I suppose Iâll probably die, but it could be worse than that...â
shut up im being baby
staaaaaare
he hasnât learned from the previous hangover, but heâs going to just stuff his face with food today. heâs back in town and at his favorite shop, he could eat the food she cooks all day!
and he probably will, at this rate.
âCanât tell if hungover or qi deviating. Ugh... well, if itâs the latter at least I wonât have anything left to worry about. Aha..ha... wow, thatâs awful. Iâm going to lie down.â

back over here now but yes. let them preen together.
preen together omg, that word choice. i love it
//- look, when youâre pretty and have a world of problems all you can do is preen and pretend youâre better than everyone else . at least thatâs what ruan does, even though heâs a paranoid bastard.
this is so sad, alexa play the lingering melody of existential dread creeping onto our small, insignificant bodies
Small stature / feminine appearance-
His smaller frame is partly from genetics and partly from just not eating properly near the end of puberty. Going into hiding near the end of the Sunshot Campaign he had no money and very little idea how to properly live off the land. His wits and clever streak led to him securing enough food to survive and his cultivational background allowed him to go longer without food than the average person.
Even so he severely neglected his health and wound up eating things most normal humans wouldnât normally resort to.
As a teen he already had a penchant for dressing feminine so that just kind of stuck. He likes being pretty and his small frame simply made it easier to pull off a rather feminine appearance.
//- theme update. Yaaay~
//- now that i have an actual finished drawing of this gremlin i can update my theme to use art of him
