“You call that bragging?” She looked him up and down before sneering. “Even if this castle was yours, that’s not how you become king. A castle can just be a castle -- especially one in an amusement park.”

‘ WAIT … WHAT ?? ’ expression shifting to one out of pure D I S B E L I E F, he furrowed his eyebrows together. ‘ how could he just – swallow you??  like i don’t want to be morbid, but he would have to like… bite you into pieces at the very least ??  how could you possibly s u r v i v e that ?? ’ shaking his head to himself, he slowly turned towards the wolf. ‘ well. okay. i trust your judgement then. though i probably prefer to keep my hands to myself around him. just in case. ’

red hardly found his question morbid, but she supposed that came with the territory of briefly living inside of someone’s stomach. “if he had any manners. but you know how wild animals can be -- they literally swallow things whole if they’re too eager.” the wolf she had been tricked by hardly seemed like a wild animal (she wasn’t a complete idiot) but she realized later that, really, that’s all he was. “i was lucky to be saved early enough, that’s all,” she shrugged like it was simple. “i suppose that’s all right. he won’t be offended. he’s very charming, though. he might win you over one day.”

There’s just a sharp nod at that— at least if they couldn’t help her with that, it was entirely in their hands how to proceed. She truly did not envy the hotel staff on this day (she pitied anyone who might have to deal with any future cleanup, no matter how much it was (or wasn’t) trained; she couldn’t foresee any way that messes were unavoidable). “It’s not discrimination, it’s that normal people don’t keep wolves as pets. They’re wild animals and I wouldn’t hesitate to assume that any discrimination will come from the fact that they’re afraid of being around one— especially if you can’t even train him as you have demonstrated.”

Red gasps (absurdly) loudly at the implication that she is abnormal. “Wolves are great pets for those who are sophisticated and smart enough to raise them!” She can agree that they’re wild animals, although where she comes from, they also have the ability to climb into beds and impersonate your grandmother. “Look, if I can be around a wolf, there’s no reason anyone else can’t. Not to brag, but I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who’s ever been eaten by a wolf and lived to tell the tale.” Aside from her granny, but she doesn’t need to be dragged into this. “Little kids are running around here screaming while their parents try to catch them, but I don’t see you telling them to borrow a leash.”

EYEBROWS FURROWING TOGETHER, he watched the two of them in thoughtful silence. maybe it was just anxiety. the fear of the UNKNOWN, the constant feeling that he’s forgotten something. he didn’t want to accidentally risk his health A G A I N. ‘ – - are you sure ??  ’ alex couldn’t prevent himself from asking. ‘ i think all pet owners tend to be… subjective on the topic if their pets are dangerous. ’

“extremely sure. oh, i know!” she stood up, simply stepping half in front of clawdius so he would know to stay. “okay, see, i used to hate wolves. i was eaten by one once and i had to be cut out of his stomach -- totally gross, right?? but i met this little guy and decided that not all wolves are bad. and i’m telling you he’s a good one.”

THERE USED TO BE A TIME in which alex longed to own a dog himself. or any pet really. but that surely was before the accident, now having to contemplate if he could trust an ANIMAL to not tackle him. startle him. anything. besides, this doesn’t even seem like a normal DOG, which was S C A R Y  all on it’s own. ‘ no, nothing happened. ’ yet, yet, yet. ‘ shouldn’t you try to keep him on a leash or something like that ??  – - or something tighter, bigger, probably. ’

consciously, red didn’t notice the boy’s apprehension but upon catching up to her pet, she immediately knelt down to hug him around the neck. he responded by licking her on the cheek, which she appreciated, but she still sighed. “i suppose so. he usually has more space to run around -- without so many people or other distractions around. i think he’s just overly excited and acting out. it’s not like he’s dangerous or anything. you can pet him if you want.”

She purses her lips at that. “Well, there probably aren’t many because most people wouldn’t need one. However, I’m sure if you ask at the hotel, they can probably offer you some sort of temporary solution to that.” Monstrosity— well, she wasn’t completely wrong, but she’s not going to agree with that (out loud, at least). “That’s real charming, I’m sure that thinking someone was a threat will get you so far if he does.” Hilda’s clearly ignoring the look she gets, a small shrug. “I am not inclined to say, but regardless of what you bet, I can tell you most people won’t readily accept that. For one, he doesn’t exactly look much like a dog, don’t you think?”

Red couldn’t imagine what people in this world did with their pets when they were out having fun -- just leave them at home?? She would never want Clawdius to miss out on something like an amusement park. He was only left behind when there was danger or when he might get in the way. “Hm...the hotel, you say? All right, I’ll see if they have anything.” Red wasn’t sure what that meant. Was there something wrong with your pet wolf mauling someone if they were threatening you? “Of course he doesn’t. Well, a little around the nose. But treating him differently for being a wolf is discrimination and I don’t think that’s very fair.”

She has to take in a deep breath and take a moment to contemplate exactly how many things seem wrong with this situation (hint: several), pushing up her glasses slightly before addressing the other. “Don’t you have a leash or something for him? Are dogs even allowed in here— don’t answer that, it’s rhetorical.” There’s also the fact that she’s almost a hundred percent sure that this isn’t a dog (no dog that she knew of looked like a wolf). “No, he did not, but please put a muzzle on him if he will bite however, we do not need to get complaints if you happen to lose track of him again and someone decides to make a fuss.”

Crossing her arms over her chest, Red geared up to be an enormous pain. “Not yet, and there don’t seem to be any for sale in this...fun-park-concessions-coaster monstrosity,” she said, rattling off the words she had read on various signs, her tone dripping with disdain. “He doesn’t bite. But if he thought someone was a threat, he might start.” Red gave the other woman a daring look. “I bet he’s better behaved than half of the people here.”

“you’ve been talking to the wrong men. a real man will do anything to make his queen happy,” she said knowledgeably. as far as red was concerned, she’d snagged the best available guy back home. “stand, rollover, talk -- he’s really not making any headway on that last one.” red glared at him before shaking her head. “he’s a perfectly normal size for a wolf his age.”

“oh, this is going to be fun.” a grin spread across his face as he spoke, pan could feel the magic in the place and magic meant that he had power. he wouldnt use it just yet, not until he had gathered a new crew of lost boys but eventually he could find a way to make this place his. his grin turns more innocent, well faked amazement in his eyes, as he turns to a passerby. “isn’t this place amazing?”

she gave him a look. there was already something innately irritating about a boy who wanted to fight pirates and play games forever. when he talked like this, it didn’t make her like him any better. “amazing how, exactly?? none of my friends have come to save me yet and there isn’t a single decent boutique to fill out my closet if i’m going to be stuck here. and now you’re here?! i thought you went back to your book.”

“woah—–” zoe’s mouth was agape as she observed the rather LARGE CREATURE. “your— wolf hybrid is— really— wow !!” unable to get the words out of her mouth; as if she was eating a peanut butter sandwich. zoe was intrigued, but a tad hesitant. “oh no—- claw— clawdius is a nice— guy !! i’ve just never been near such a LARGE ANIMAL of his caliber before. he’s magnificent !!” 

“he’s not a hy-brid, he’s all wolf.” trying to be a tad bit nicer, red opted to hide her disgust at the other person eating while they spoke to her. it was hardly the way to address someone of her standing. red knelt down to run a hand along her pet’s head and he nuzzled against her. at this, she gave a smile. “thank you. he’s very receptive to commentary so i’m sure he appreciates it.” sighing, she stood up. “do you know if they sell leashes anywhere around here?”

“oh please !! i love any sort of ‘dog’—- don’t worry. even a little LOVE TAP wouldn’t stop me from LOVING THEM !!” ajane let out a laugh. “although, my friends almost RUINED puppies for me.” shaking the entire situation out of her subconscious. “is this one of those dogs that are in movies or something ?? not a wolf, but double as one if they’re needed in a scene ??”

red kneeled down to grab her pet by the collar. charlie was always saying she really ought to get a leash, especially if she expected to let him out of the castle. she sniffed before answering only the last part of the other girl’s commentary. “clawdius is clearly a real wolf,” she said haughtily, as if she herself had not thought he was a normal dog when he was a puppy. “that’s a good idea, though. he should really be getting into acting.” while trapped in the hospital, red had seen plenty of terrible television. clawdius would be so much more entertaining.

red’s basic fairytale is the same as we all know it (namely she had to cut herself free from inside a wolf’s stomach gee whiz)

she and goldilocks used to be enemies bc they were both in love with jack (the beanstalk one) but now they’re friends. sort of.

she was the elected queen of the red riding hood kingdom but then everyone was like actually you suck??? so eventually her boyfriend was voted king instead. they elect their royalty which? ok

now they’re married so. she’s a queen again. but he renamed it the corner kingdom

also her husband is a giant frog bc why tf not i guess???????? (he’s actually one of the charming princes but he was cursed and we just let it happen)

she’s really self-involved and kinda snotty but she really cares about her friends and loved ones and the people of her kingdom so there u have it

since she’s from the fairytale world she doesn’t know anything about how earth works. fun!

“clawdius!” she yelled, struggling to run after the animal in her heels and gigantic gown. he seemed to be getting away, though she had no idea why he would want to escape her care. thankfully, he stopped short of running into a stranger and started sniffing them up and down. eventually, red caught up to the pair. out of breath, she apologized, “sorry, i’m trying to train him but he’s not a very good listener.” to clawdius, she said, “bad dog!” but he wasn’t a dog at all, but rather a young wolf, no longer small enough to be mistaken for a puppy. “he didn’t, like, bite you or anything, did he?” her tone was unconcerned, because her pet wasn’t much of a biter.
