My one boring tip to anyone in their 20s is to resist the temptation to rot in your room every time you get a free moment. Dismiss any neuroses you have about going outside and "being perceived". Be a dictator about it, plan your hangouts like they are binding commitments. No excuses! Go to the bar with your friends. Be kinda hungover at work. Socializing is like exercise; even if you don't feel like you want to, you should still do it because it's good for you.
nolan’s odyssey is such a textbook study on the idiocy and dangers of presentism. yes of course penelope is a modern day feminist who wants to rule ithaca by herself. they make telemachus say that GREECE IS THE GREATEST CIVILIZATION IN THE WORLD as if the entire point of the massing of achaeans at troy for one unified cause isn’t spectacular precisely because THERE IS NO CONCEPT OF A UNIFIED GREECE NATIONS DO NOT EXISTTTTTT YETTTTT. literally 101 on historical writing is making sure that you’re avoiding strict periodization because the people living in a “period” will not identify themselves that way. ever. five million cheeky nods to “the sea peoples” but we’re being cute and coy and calling them “the people from the sea.” the obsession with xenia but refusal to call it xenia yes let’s say “zeus’s law” a hundred times and reduce it to the literal expectation that any stranger could be a god in disguise. how was penelope just hanging out in the main hall of the palace with her husband’s dinner guests while they were playing with weapons with her HAIR COMPLETELY DOWN no veil no nothing just chilling casually. comical. stoppppp making movies that engage in historical viewpoints if you’re going to slather a modernized coat of paint over the top. “the past is a foreign country, they do things differently there.” or fucking whatever.
The Pearl With The Girl Earring by Olaf Falafel
Well shit Dan, I would if I could
Anybody know a bard and a harp player? No problems finding ecstatic drunkenness here in the Midwest lmao
Preworkout thoughts incoming
Without getting into my whole complex theory of what qualities I think men and women would prefer other people to find attractive about themselves — my preferences may be atypical
I’m still cracking up about people getting so bent out of shape about Taylor Swift doing interviews where she’s like, giggling about how much of an oaf Travis Kelce is. “Oh no, how terrible for your partner to think you’re dumb, or patronize you, etc”
all I can say is, if I was dating a famous and beautiful woman, and she went out and wrote a song all like “yeah, my fiancé has a giant and wonderful cock and it makes me tingly” she could call me stupid on TV if she felt like it. I’d let her call me stupid to my face, tbh. I’ve never taken much pride in my intelligence one way or the other, even if I was a good student. But open bragging about my many macho qualities and sexual prowess?
Yeah, I think I’d put up with a lot for that.
Also gotta go take some cooking classes, cuz god knows I’m not making a pivot into finance and prosperity with my work ethic and mental function.
Everyone's Friend
the end to this thread is killing me
that woman on tiktok giving parents advice on making their kids "less weird" in school is genuinely going to hell
who cares if your 12 year old meows at people. it's grade school, not a job interview. and before anyone says anything no I wasn't the meowing kid. I was a wolf thank you very much
If I'm ever making hiring decisions and a candidate meows at me, I'm hiring them.
this honestly☝️

A List of Popular Stereotypes About Feminist Men
In order from oldest to newest, listed by "wave":
1st wave (19th c. to early 20th c.): Henpecked hubby of feminist woman
2nd wave (1960s to 1980s): Ineffectual simp
3rd wave (1990s to 2000s): Deceptive Gaimanesque snake and not the ineffably cool kind of sneaky Gaiman snek who wears sunglasses over his snek pupils when in human form
4th wave (2010s to present): Chad lecturing lower-status men from his ivory tower (see the memes of some hot buff dude saying "You don't need to hate women, bro! Just be more confident and put yourself out there!")
Well, yeah, hence the "dating advice from your hotter friend" meme. It makes less sense as a way to invalidate feminism, though.
Oh, absolutely, it really has nothing to do with feminism.
That particular example is just the only really funny “oh, be yourself, it’ll be fine” meme that I’ve seen, so I thought id share.
I’m not a blackpiller haha, just regular depressed (and doing better lately)

Up to 60% of Argentina's population—over 25 million people—claims Italian ancestry. This profound heritage stems from two massive waves of immigration between 1870 and 1960. Italian roots are woven into Argentine food, dialect, architecture, and traditions, creating one of the largest and most vibrant Italian diasporas in the world.
huh does that impact the language at all
deadgenerations said: yes, Argentinian Spanish sounds like it’s being spoken with an Italian accent. the vocabulary is not significantly affected I don’t think
Spanish with an Italian accent... that sounds so plausible yet my grasp of both languages is so weak I can't really envision the details
centrally-unplanned said: Spanish and Italian already have so much vocab overlap and “close words” that “spanish with an italian accent” is like 50% what italian just is as a language ^^ No expertise on Argentina here but this sounds like a big influence
would be fun to tell Julius Caesar that there is this massive landmass out west across the Atlantic and they speak Italian Spanish without giving any other context, let him think Rome did that
I don’t speak Spanish well enough to confirm, but I’ve been told that Anya Taylor-Joy speaks Spanish with a “little Italian sailor accent” and this is fairly quirky in combination with the way she looks.
i actually have a vague memory now of posting about hyperlexia at length last year and positing that the comprehension deficit was probably largely environmental, and there were a lot of anecdotal report-ins from people like myself who never "learned to read" formally, just already figured it out by themselves at age 4, and had a theatrical/rhetorical education childhood where parents or others were available to teach grammar and comprehension and speech to catch you up to your own reading ability. i had normal/slightly early speech development, some hyperlexic kids are totally nonverbal while simultaneously reading in preschool. it does really seem to be a semi-standalone ability that doesnt rely much on other factors. i think its probably pretty common
job interviewer: would you be willing to destroy and betray yourself for nothing?
job interviewer: (reading the room) would you be willing to destroy and betray yourself for a pizza party?
