Mansplaining and dented egos

My wife and I each received a copy of the same letter in the mail today from one of her uncles. Given the content, I don’t feel it’s even necessary to give much background here. A friend who is a very important part of our family is nonbinary transmasculine and uses they/them/their pronouns. They also have a standing invitation to all family events and holidays. This is not a SUPER recent situation, as they’ve been living here and using these pronouns for at least 18 months. So there have now been a good handful of opportunities for learning and growth by said uncle. When he made it incredibly clear he wasn’t even trying on Christmas, my wife and I both began AGGRESSIVELY correcting him after every single misgendered pronoun (which wAs every single one he uttered). It was plain as day he wasn’t trying. We know what trying looks like. So this is the fallout.

Also, he’s just always a mainsplainer and we’re just the hysterical females. BTW, actually I’m also NB. A fact which he’s been told but seems to have conveniently forgotten, since I am okay with any pronouns.

Have you ever just been struck speechless? Because I was. Shaking. But speechless. Ugh.

But a lot of people genuinely don’t do this kind of stuff with their friends though. Like… it’s not really common to go out with one close friend and just the two of you go to a nice restaraunt, or go for a walk together or whatever. A lot of people spend their time hanging out with groups of friends. Actually spending quality time with one friend, focussing on them, and doing something together, just the two of you…. isn’t a very common thing?

This is me and my... friends. Like. Me and @apenguinonmars run errands together and cook together sometimes and they come over and fix electronics and I go and clean their kitchen and we sometimes just ignore each other in the same space. We’ve been doing this since we were 15. Y’all need to actually hang out with your friends one on one. It’s important. Trust me. We are 33 now and we know each other incredibly wel.

My dad told me that dads always love their sons more. They couldn’t help it. It was just normal. Also that men were more likely to leave a marriage/family if he did not have a son.
