Fallout 4 (2015) (PS4)
Fallout 4 was one of the most eagerly awaited games of this yer… But was it worth the wait?
Don’t get me wrong, all Fallout games are awesome there is no argument there, this one however feels a bit unfinished. Yes it’s stunning and has some awesome characters and some brilliant missions but the whole thing seems very abrupt. I completed a whole bunch of side quests and joined all the available parties but still when I went back to the main story I was shocked at how little time it took me to finish.
As well as the short story some of the important decisions that are to be made in the later game are dealt to you in such a flippant way that you don’t realise their importance until you have shot your favourite ally in the face with molten hot laser jizz.
All this aside Fallout 4 is a lot of fun and really grabs you with how huge and alive the game world seems to be. There are some very welcome advancement to weapons and modification but it won’t take long to unlock the best of everything and never need another gun. Also there is a new base building system in Fallout 4 which exsists… Just because?
All in all please do play Fallout 4 it’s is a stunning piece of entertainment and regardless of its length it still gets me all excited… Huh huh that’s what she said!

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015) (PS4)
Where to begin with this monolith of a title!
The Witcher 3 can not rightly be called a game, it is more than just a game it is an epic adventure, a chapter in your life, something you will talk about for years to come. No characters, instead a cast of old friends and heartless adversaries populate the holiday destination that is Novigrad, Velen and the deadly isles of Skellige.
You play as Geralt, the meanest Witcher ever to grace the cold stone walls of Kaer Morhen. He is a sword slinging mutant with the ability to wield a range of magical attacks whenever he chooses. Playing as Geralt was a pleasure, the battle system was simple to learn but hard to master. There were two base ways to approach any epic battle in Wild Hunt.
1. Learn all about the monster, brew potions to drink, mix oils to cover your sword, craft the appropriate bombs, level up the best magic power, change your armor/sword for best effect, approach the best and skirmish it into submission.
2. Flail your sword around like a blind dwarf trying to ward off the throbbing members of one hundred horny members of the sexy blind dwarf appreciation society.
Both are very valid methods.
In terms of length you are getting way more than your moneys worth. There are missions and tasks everywhere, some side missions can go on longer that the whole of The Order: 1884 (a game you payed the same price for). And the missions don't get old or repetitive because they all have a unique story line behind them. Even the simple mission where you are asked to dive for a black pearl so a man can gift it to his wife, takes a heart wrenching turn when you return to the man for payment to find out his wife didn't appreciate her gift, inquire more and you discover his wife has clear signs of dementia something they simply don't understand in that age. he was hoping the pearl would reminder her who he was... sadly to no avail.
To sum up The WItcher 3 has so many good point with a few negatives peppered throughout, things like frame rate drops, character models not loading in and getting stuck behind Triss. The negatives didn't phase me at all, apart from killing the immersion slightly they are forgivable. I could talk about this title for hours on end but I shan't. Instead I will leave you to go on your own journey through this amazing world. Do so with haste.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) (PS2)
Vice City was an epic adventure set in a 1980's coke sniffing, gangster ran Miami look-a-like. The characters were brilliantly colourful, the cars were fast and the weapons were plentiful. Some may say the mass slaughter of half the population of an island was a little bit excessive, but when it's all in the name of revenge and personal gain, that makes it all OK... Right?
Vice City has been released on a bunch of platforms, sadly I have only played it on PS2 so I had to live with the awful LSD style blurry graphics and the unbearable controls. Luckily back in '02 that was what I was used to so it didn't effect me, but playing that game now makes me think we were all blind and ham-handed.
Vice City was one of my least favourite GTA games but it still hit the spot at the time and gave us all lots to talk about at school. Plus if Vice City wasn't released then parents wouldn't have any overly violent and incredibly X-rated games to buy for their kids 8th birthday.

The Cursed Crusade (2011) (PS3)
I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if you had never heard of this game, to be honest I hadn't either it was a case of grabbing something cheap from the game store to play when I was a bit short of cash. But I am very glad I did buy it because I think it's awesome.
The reason you haven't heard of this game is because it was basically a total flop, it received poor reviews and barely managed to reach an average of 5/10. But I have no idea why this is the case! It really isn't a bad game. It's very pretty and has varied and fun gameplay, the voice acting is a bit ham but as a game I very much enjoyed it.
You play as Denz who is a Templar during the Fourth crusade, sadly Denz is cursed, he tries his best to defeat the curse even though it gives him awesome powers which you can unleash on any foe but also are used majorly throughout boss fights. As well as that you are often thrown into interesting scenarios that give the game the varied gameplay I mentioned earlier, most popular games don't have this much variety. There are a plethora of weapons to pick up and you can even dual wield two weapons of different types and once you find your favorite combination there is a skill tree for every single combination of weapons for you to upgrade. You fight with your amigo Esteban who has semi-decent AI but can also be controlled by another player.
All in all I found this game to be quite the thrill-ride and really cannot see how it gained such poor reviews, yes it is not the best game ever and there are better games out there but shit, it was fun. Don't let the reviews put you off, I implore you to go and try this game, I hope you will agree with me and not the corporate masses!

Dishonored (2012) (PS3)
My god why have I waited so long to play this game?! I have been playing Dishonored all week and I am truly in awe, it is such a brilliant, stunning and varied game! You play as Corvo the personal bodyguard of the empress of Dunwall and her daughter, but you are soon framed for her murder and the whole world turns against you. So in true badass fashion you don your mask and set out for revenge.
But the story line is only one of many brilliant things that make up this game... The music is emotional and really sets the scene. The surroundings and design (regardless of what graphics you are running) are stunning in such a dark and gritty way, there is a real gothic/steam punk element to everything which I loved. The gameplay is infinitely varied; for every mission you can choose to kill everyone in sight including your target or try the non-lethal (and far more difficult) way as an added challenge. This might include simply choking someone instead of stabbing/shooting them, or it could throw you on a whole different side-mission to achieve your goal, either way you will never play the same level the same way twice... or even three times. The controls can be a bit complicated depending on how many different powers you use in one battle but the quick-select option certainly helps. My only issue with the gameplay was the 'blink' power, although it was brilliant and very intuitive I did often find myself accidentally transporting myself off a ledge to my doom.
I could go on all day about this game but I will never in a million years do it justice, you MUST go out and play this game if you haven't already, you will honestly be missing out on an immense gaming experience if you don't.

Max Payne 3 (2012) (PS3)
It had been almost 10 years since we had seen a Max Payne game and my gosh did it come back with a bang. Firstly let me say I love Max Payne, by that I don't mean the games I mean the character. Max Payne is a nothing-left-to-lose ex-cop who is addicted to painkillers and alcohol. His story is that of heartbreak and pain, after losing his wife and infant daughter Max lost a part of himself and after years of life going from shit to worse he eventually breaks and stops giving a fuck about his cursed existence. With this as a premise you can see why he is a fun character to play and how he gets into such fucked up situations, taking on dozens of men single-handedly, absorbing bullets like a sponge because he is too jacked up on meds and hard liquor to even notice. He is a mountain of emotion and I love him.
Anyway back to the game, Max Payne 3 takes you on a non-linear journey of the last year or so of Max's life, as you can imagine it has been a shit-storm, this makes for a really grim yet enjoyable story line. The game is very pretty and plays much like the past games but tweaked a little. The only problem I encountered was the lack of variation when it came to gameplay; yes as you will expect there is countless gunfights with ridiculous amounts of enemies. The only problem is that there seems to be very little else, yes the story carries the game enough to warrant a play-through just don't expect varied and extensive gameplay, it is basically 14 chapters of...
1. Turn a corner
2. See a shit ton of guards
3. Take cover
4a. Pick guards off one by one
4b. Use bullet time to fly through air and pick off a few guards before running back to cover and going back to 4a.
5. Repeat
Every now and then there is a quick-time shooting event that will take you by surprise which is no doubt fun, but not enough to make me think I'm doing anything other than shooting more enemies. It isn't ideal but what was I expecting from a game called Max Payne?!

Top 10 Sidekicks in Gaming #1
Max - Sam & Max
As I'm sure you all know I am a huge fan of Sam & Max and I think Max is one of the most amazingly well written characters ever to grace the world of pixels. He is crazy beyond repair and is as loyal as very loyal dog. With Max, hilarity is always only a step away, he is more than useful to Sam his canine companion, whenever violence is called for, Max is always there.
"Gosh, Sam, if 100 years of western civilization have to be destroyed just to provide a bunch of smelly quasi-human creatures with a safe haven for their disgusting lifestyles, then so be it!"
Top 10 Sidekicks in Gaming #2
Ken Rosenberg - Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Ken Rosenberg is a legend, he is constantly under threat of being killed and is seriously ugly but he always manages to come through and even provide us with a laugh, although usually at his expense. Even with his paranoia and high blood pressure he still manages to always help out Tommy and never gets the thanks he deserves. A legend in the making and a good man to have one your side. You are one hell of a guy Ken.
"I poke my head out of the gutter for one freakin' second, and fate shovels shit in my face!"

Bloodwing - Borderlands
I know we have already have an entry from Borderlands but I felt that Bloodwing also deserved a high spot on this list. Mordecai is one of my favorite characters in Borderlands and he has the coolest of all sidekicks; an evil ass vulture thing that has a nasty blood-thirst. When upgraded Bloodwing can do some serious damage as well as heal. He flies off and chews out a psycho's eyes whilst pissing caustic juices down his throat... Wish I had a bird that could do that. Mordecai and Bloodwing are the perfect partners in battle.
"Cawwww" (he's a bird)
The Walking Dead: Episode One - A New Day (2012) (PS3)
I have never really watched the TV series of The Walking Dead so I never really had any interest in playing the video game version. But whilst poking through the PS Store I noticed the first chapter was free so figured 'why the hell not?'. And I'm really glad I did.
The Walking Dead is a far cry from other zombie games because it is set almost like an interactive movie. You walk around at your own will in set scenarios then find your self in set animations where you have to perform some action or another to save a life or not die! It is a very fun and fresh way at looking at zombie games. Episode one introduces us to our two main protagonists Lee Everett, who was on his way to jail for supposedly murdering someone, and Clementine, an innocent youngster who lost her parents and has been taken in by Lee. The most interesting part of the game is that not only do you get to decide on the physical actions of your character but also the emotional ones; you decide whether you want to be honest or lie to people to get your own way or gain their trust, it is a very interesting game mechanic. Also this game is filled with some gory-ass zombie combat!
All in all I'm very glad I picked this game up, it is a breath of fresh air and apart from the animations being sometimes a bit laggy it is a very appealing game. I will definitely be continuing the series.

Otacon - Metal Gear Solid
Yes once again Otacon has made it in to one of my top 10 lists. But surely you cant blame me, what list of sidekicks could possibly be complete without the amazing, brilliant, smart and compassionate Hal Emmerich. Not only is he Snake's best friend but he is his most valuable asset in battle, he is always there to help Snake out with valuable information and warnings. As well as all this he is also a close friend and shoulder to cry on for Snake, not that Snake would ever need a shoulder to cry on, he only cries bullets.
"Another Chinese proverb: "Those who look to the Heavens prosper, those who defy it are no more." Do you know this one? The meaning here is - hold on a sec - that you can only survive as long as you're a part of the natural order of things. You remember pre-ripped jeans?"
Gaming Trivia You Probably Didn't Know #1
Talking Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
David Hayter who we all know and love as the voice of Solid Snake also voiced Captain America in the 90's Spider-Man cartoons.
The same voice actor who plays The Boss in MGS3 also voices Diane Simmons in Family Guy.
The same voice actor who plays Ocelot in MGS3 also voiced young Hercules in the Disney hit Hercules.
The voice actor who voiced Colonel Volgin in MGS3 played John Rambo in the 1986 TV series 'Rambo'... for 65 episodes!
Nobody knows the true identity of the voice actor who played EVA... She used an alias during MGS3... She could be anyone!
My Top 3 Films of All Time - 1st Place
The Fifth Element
The Fifth Element is the greatest film ever made! It has the right amount of absolutely everything anyone could want from a film...
Bruce Willis provides the action and the every-man that everyone can relate to, Chris Tucker provides the endless laughs and stunning wardrobe,Milla Jovovich provides endless amounts of sex appeal and innocence and Gary Oldman provides the perfect gammy legged bad guy.
As well as an impeccable cast the film was also brilliantly thought up, the futuristic settings allow for endless creativity and comedy opportunities. The film is a nonstop roller-coaster which barely allows you to surface for air before throwing you into the next hilariously action packed scene.
I cannot truly put words to what it is this film provides for me but it just feels so right, so exciting and fun! It is this certain X factor that puts The Fifth Element at the top of my all time favorite films. I hope you have enjoyed.

Ellie - The Last of Us
If you're anything like me, when you first met Ellie your ass cheeks clenched and you cried tears of dread as you mulled over the prospect of dragging her sorry ass through hordes of undead. But we soon learn that for a prepubescent teenager Ellie is one mean son-of-a-bitch! Not only does she handle a weapon and even save your life, she single-handedly fucks up a whole horde of crusty cocked seeping brained zombies. Whatever you do don't offer this bitch candy.
"Well, maybe in all that research they turned into fucking monkeys!"
Top 10 Sidekicks in Gaming #6
Garrus Vakarian - Mass Effect
Garrus satisfies the badass balls-to-the-walls gut fucker side of my sidekick list. He is a soldier with extraordinary skills and takes no shit. He is meticulous and ever ready, he also adds that much needed taste of humour which is always needed when floating through space. Not much more needs to be said about our brother-in-arms, only that he was ALWAYS on my team.
"You obviously haven't seen Turians swim. It's a lot of flailing and splashing interrupted by occasional bouts of drowning."

Claptrap (CL4P-TP) - Borderlands
This general purpose working robot is not only a useful tool built by Hyperion, but your chirpy guide through Pandora. They are adorable yet totally crazy, for a machine they have a varied range of unnatural emotions. Claptrap stories are generally sad ones, they are used as target practice, bossed around and no one attends their birthday parties. But we love you little guy, stay strong.
"I don't like this... this is making me nervous. Take a deep breath... I can't breathe! This is just a recording of someone breathing! It's not real! It's just making me more nervous!"
