My jobs,
I’ve had a lot of different jobs over the last almost 30 years.
Before I could actually work I would babysit. That where I started making money. Making a money is a whole other topic and I will save a post dedicated to just that in the future! Once I was able to start working I worked at my school during the summer. My first year I helped with the computer stuff. I helped set them up and got to learn a whole bunch of stuff with that. Then the following summers 07-10 I did summer cleaning at the school which was cool because I got into the state retirement early. Let me tell you about the benefits to that ( which I only realized and learned about a few years ago. March 13, 2008 I started working for my towns supermarket I worked there for 7 years and 10 months. I loved that job, if I still lived near my home town I’d probably still be there. Buuuuuuuut that gets to my last few years of my employment adventures.
While I was in college I made a friend who told me about a job that I could work for the summer. It was at a school/ residential setting for individuals with special needs. I was like oh cool that would be a great summer job. Little did I know when I started it wasn’t going to be just a summer job. I grew attached to the individuals and couldn’t leave. I loved watching them grow and seeing all they were capable of. I was there from 13- 17. In that time I also started working at Walmart as a part time job. Walmart didn’t last long for many reasons but then I got a part tome job at Panera. I loved working at Panera. I was there for 2 years. Something you should know if you’re not aware in the human service field it’s like a roller coaster of employment. Sometimes you have plenty of staff then you don’t have any staff and just goes like that over and over. I had to leave panera because the mandates were crazy and it was becoming hard to juggle both jobs. I’m 2017, I was ready to see what was out there in the human service world so I went to work at a state facility. I did the same stuff working with individuals with specials needs they were just older and it was a different setting. While I was there I did go back to Panera and work part time for another year or 2 but then the mandates came back and I chose to leave again. I should tell you while at Panera my boss asked me to leave my full time job and go there full time. I was like that’s nice but young and listen to everyone else Roxy thought I can’t do that I was told Panera isn’t a real full time job. ( which isn’t true one bit) so I stayed with the state and after 4 years I was over a lot of stuff that went along with working at the state. I needed to get out of there. I ended up as a TA/LTA at a school. It was a complete different pace but I loved it! I loved working with the kids and the staff and it was great. I was there for 7 months and realized the the distance I was driving to work and the amount I was making wasn’t working. I went to an interview for a DSP job for a different agency and they said I had enough experience for a house manager position. I was iffy but after a week I agreed. I loved the house, my boss and the position but this is where I learned a lot about myself. I learned that there was stuff I had to work on for myself. I also had spend the last 10 years working so many jobs and now that I’m older I realized there’s more to life than working all the time. I want time with my family ( family = family, friends and boyfriend and his family and anyone that I care about) I was at this job for a year and 3 months and decided I didn’t want to deal with it. I didn’t want the stress, the 60+ hours or work every week. I learned that the human service field is so much more stressful for the people that are their for the right reasons. The people that actually care and this is the first time I’m ever saying this out loud. If you don’t care about the job and just there for the money you’ll either stay until you find a job that pays more or you will continue working because you don’t care what happens. I never worked for the money I worked because I enjoyed the job. When I was leaving they kept telling me that I was gonna get a raise and I didn’t care. I wanted peace!
Does anyone want to guess where my next full time job was at?
If you said Panera, you were correct! I wanted to for so long and when I hit 30 I started believing in myself and to level not caring what people thought. I realized that a full time job can be anything. Sooo here I am working full time at Panera. I’m loving it! It is just want I need right now. I have a set schedule I get to see my family and most important I get ME time. I’m getting into a routine with my life and couldn’t be happier.
I should say that after I wrote this I forgot to put in 2 jobs. I also subbed at a school for 5 years during breaks from college. I also worked a child are setting at my college. They hired me once I was done with my practicum. They liked my work ethic and how I worked with the students.
Anyhoo that is all for today.
Have a great day!
