[Theory dump; Child abuse mention]
Steven’s [PD] and White Diamond’s interaction in the remaining seconds on [Legs From Here to Homeworld] has shown us a snipped of how abusive their relationship actually was before the Gem war.
White Diamond doesn’t let Steven talk and always shuts him down when he attempts to.
White Diamond’s dialogue is sugar coated to seem “endearing” with petnames and such but as someone who’s gone through parental abuse this scene in general makes me feel eerily unnerved because you can just tell how venomous her words are even if they’re disguised to seem pleasant.
White Diamond was already aware that Pink was still alive and knew she was Rose Quartz from the beginning judging by the fact that her questions were if she’s had fun and gotten everything out of her system [She may be implying in her speech; “You’ve had your little fun now, you think you can just abandon us and run away? This is where YOU belong, you’ll never fit in anywhere else. Stop being difficult. Everyone’s been worried sick.”]
Considers the 5000 years of sorrow [The Gem war] only a game.
I’ve theorized that this particular room might have been the room Pink Diamond has mostly spent her days in isolation [her bedroom] and made small bubbles as nice decorations in the process [This has probably influenced the idea in Pink’s head that everything is being created simply “out of nothing” in her earlier days before she explored Earth.]
Pink Diamond’s life before the rebellion revolved around being the “perfect little puppet queen” and nothing more than that. However she’s gained the courage to escape Homeworld with Pearl after her idea to take the form as a Rose Quartz.
After encountering Garnet and her bravery to blossom out of her shell inspired her to press on even harder on the rebellion and came to a solid conclusion that not only is she fighting for Earth but she’s also fighting for the many gems that are going through the same cruelty she’s faced herself when she was isolated away in Homeworld, because she knew how it felt to be so looked down upon and belittled by society for just being yourself and instead of giving in, Pink fought for everyone’s rights and freedom ; Not being able to run your OWN life without someone in a “bigger status” controlling it against your will and making it a living hell.
Whenever she’s spoken out about the subject she’s referred to as a “ungrateful brat” because she’s already gotten her own colony on Earth and is even privileged to be “high authority” as a Diamond even though its quite the opposite because not even the other Diamonds bother to take her seriously because her status meant nothing to them and think she’s just a burden going through some “childish phase.”
White Diamond legitimately dropped Pink’s name, a CHILD as an embarrassment and puts all the blame on her for “starting” the war in the first place.
Pink diamond has always been a sheltered child growing up, which is why she isn’t as mentally mature like the other diamond’s and expresses immense curiosity even at the smallest things because she’s never seen anything outside of homeworld. This doesn’t make her a “Bad person” she’s just extremely naive.
The conversation between Pink and Blue might have sparked the idea in her mind that the only way to solve her pasture problems and save everyone along with Earth was to “shatter” herself. Blue says the exact words, “as long as you are there to rule, this colony will be completed” [AKA telling her to “suck it up and play through the pain”] putting her under the impression that she can fix everything by “shattering”. This unfortunately backfired.
In [We’re only falling apart] our Pearl was having a panic attack for attempting to fuse with Pink Diamond and mentioned that she MUST be replaced for doing something so unacceptable, however notice how quickly PD declined her request in obvious alarm almost immediately as if this has happened before. This can only point to the fact that her previous Pearl [White Pearl] was confiscated for an unknown reason and was horribly damaged mentally by White Diamond.
