Too many emotions for a single stage
one thing i will say for Sports as a source of human drama is that it's possible to be literally one of the best human beings in the ENTIRE WORLD at [thing] and still be Eternal Second Best
if i were jonas vingegaard they would have to name a new mental illness after me
imagine. you're a Cycling Guy. that's your job. you are literally one of the best in the whole world. you've won the tour de france twice, and only like fifteen guys ever have done that. and everyone who has ever even heard of you knows you as the guy who is just not quite as good as another guy
this dude won the tour twice but he has come second behind tadej pogacar four times. and it's gonna happen again this year. vingegaard's first tour win literally only happened because pogacar got in a crash. pogacar's about to take his fifth tour win, and five is the most tours anyone has ever won except lance armstrong lol. and vingegaard is behind him, in second. as always. if i were pogacar i would have someone tasting my food
also in the tour de france, the guy who is Currently Winning gets to wear a special jersey. the yellow jersey. but also the tour de france has multiple winner jerseys for different things. obviously the guy who is overall winning wears the yellow jersey, but there are other things to compete for. including the polka dotted jersey, which is for king of the mountains, i.e. the guy who climbs up each of the mountains fastest. and the polka dotted jersey is coveted it's like the second most important after yellow. but it is less important than yellow. which means that if, say, you are entitled to wear both the yellow jersey and the polka dotted jersey. you wear the yellow jersey. and the polka dotted jersey goes to the guy in second place for king of the mountains. which means that right now, tadej pogacar, who is currently both overall winner and king of the mountains, is racing in yellow. and jonas vingegaard is wearing tadej pogacar's cast off polka dots. because he is also in second place for king of the mountains
as an american i’m legally required to compare remco winning the stage before the rest day + TT to when a football team scores before halftime and then has the ball again at the beginning of the second half
little matty brennan absolutely riding his heart out to drag Wout to the front for Arenberg after having been sick for like a month then launching him and immediately celebrating his victory on social media afterwards will be one of many many enduring memories of this year’s absolutely amazing Paris-Roubaix
the next visma vlog is going to feel so subdued, they're just a bunch of (very talented) little ducklings without their leader
I love athletes that have beaten the greatest in their sport. Nico Rosberg beating Lewis Hamilton in 2016. Jonas Vingegaard winning the Tour de France twice. I just think it's so magical that through sheer force of will those athletes have managed to do the impossible. To beat two time tour de france winner Tadej Pogacar by seven and a half minutes in 2023. To beat three time world champion Lewis Hamilton in his prime in equal machinery in 2016. Jonas and Nico will not be remembered as the greatest of all time in their sports. But they can always look back and just know that they've beaten the person making history in their sports. They've stopped the unstoppable. They are the blip in the reign upon the record books that those giants of their sport hold. Thank the gods for the athletes playing second fiddle to a generational talent, I will never forget what you've done.

americans are a saudi oil baron's idea of classy. brits are an american's idea of classy. the french are a brit's idea of classy. unfortunately the chain ends here since the french's idea of classy is also the french

right so we’re taking out opportunities for sprinters because flat stages are “boring” but also uae won’t let a breakaway go so you can’t be a puncheur either but also pog wants to win every mountain stage so you can't be a climber either… like what is left after that

One of these has the moral standing of a cartoon villain, the other might save the country.
Welcome to British politics.
Well that's not staying in the tags
I do love that when faced with allegations of sexism for having two hot girls on the podium at the end of each stage to present the jerseys and bisou the winners
le tour went "we have come up with a brilliant solution ☝️ one hot women AND -hear us out here- one hot man #feminism"
