Waiting With Joyful Hope
Happy first Sunday of Advent! And, if you’re a Catholic, Happy New Year! New church year, that is. For all Christians, this is a season of preparation for the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ. How are you preparing your heart this Advent?
The beginning of a new season is the perfect time to consider where your prayer life is at. Has it become neglected or do you already spend time in prayer? Every day is a fresh start and a chance to “right the ship”. God is always waiting in mercy.
I know a friend who drops to her knees each morning after her alarm clock goes off so she can prayerfully say an “Our Father”. I gave this a shot and discovered, after a few weeks, that my knees are not a fan of this! However, any time and method you chose to pray makes your relationship with God stronger and better. He wants to be our first priority, whether we’re on our knees or comfy in our beds.
How about carving out some time each day to simply sit in silence? We need silence to hear what God wants to speak to us. I’m attempting a simple 5 minutes per day and finding it harder than expected to quiet my mind. I want to interject on the Lord! Oops. That’s why it’s a practice, I guess, because we need to work at it.
Try adding time with the living word of God, the Bible. My favorite daily “habit” is reading a Psalm each night before bed. Try and see what changes happen in your heart after a few nights of psalms. They are quick but potent! Read the same one 3 times and you will see God place a fresh emphasis and meaning just for you today. He meets us where we’re at in each moment, giving us the continual gift of his presence, if only we invite him in.
The Lord gives hope with love.
Tonight we remind ourselves there is not one way to pray. God sees the unseen and hears the unspoken desires of our hearts.
Tonight we pray to remember that God is our ultimate satisfaction in all things. There is no earthy desire that can compare to his fulfillment in us.
It’s union with Him that Heaven is all about, and our relationships should be working toward getting us back to Him.

This morning we pray for release from pain. Freedom from suffering to craft a healed and holy spirit.
Tonight we pray to know God's purpose in our lives, and to put aside everything that takes us away from executing his plan for us.
If only I could find an open house.
Tonight lord we pray for peace, and the satisfaction that we have our best days in front of us. Fight our battles, oh Lord.
This morning lord we pray for patience with your process. We know you are in control, that the timing is divine. Help us understand and accept all you have planned for us.
Lord tonight we pray for your healing power. Make us whole. Form and reform our faith so we can be like the potter's clay.
This morning Lord we pray to be patient and kind, giving of ourselves no matter the circumstance.
