The Tree Who Set Healthy Boundaries : an alternate ending for Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree by Topher Payne 💯🌳❤️
https://www.topherpayne.com/giving-tree?
I’d always hated The Giving Tree as a kid, but I never realized how much I needed this alternate ending until just now.
He redid Rainbow Fish too:
https://www.topherpayne.com/rainbow-fish
[id: the cover of the book The Rainbow Fish, except it has been retitled “The Rainbow Fish Keeps His Scales: An alternate ending to the book by Marcus Pfister.” In the center of the cover, there is a blue fish covered in a number of colorful and glittering scales, and a speech bubble reads “I won’t diminish myself for the comfort of others.”]
My elder child is fair-minded and reasonable, and I would like to respect that way of being, so that they can bring that into a future that will truly need it. So I edited the oral version of Goldilocks that I tell them most nights.
At the end of the story, Goldilocks sincerely apologises for invading their house (and breaking the chair, Mummy) and explains that she was lost, and being young and still learning, was still unclear on notions of personal property. The bears accept the apology, briskly discuss some more acceptable scenarios to solve this problem in the future, and Daddy Bear drives her home (in his CAR MUMMY!) In his car, while Mama Bear fixes the little broken chair
(MUMMY)
- fixes the little broken WOODEN chair -
(yes mummy)
- with baby bear to help -
(They can fix a WOODEN chair, Mummy)
- which is possible, yes, because it was made of wood and wooden things can be fixed.
(AND THE PORRIDGE)
And then they made a big bowl of new porridge for Baby Bear to eat, because his bowl had been eaten up and little ones need their breakfast.
(And Daddy Bear came back and tidied up the house.)
Yes.
I like to recognize that when I was a child, I was also VERY CONCERNED about whether the poor victims of various stories got their breakfast, and how very unimpressed I was by hurtful narratives that hurt me “because that’s how things are.” So i give this to my kid, and you should hear them argue with people who tell Goldilocks wrong.
some things I need to remind myself daily tbh
There can be a lot of pressure to make your hobby into *something*. But your hobby doesn’t have to be anything but a hobby! Do things because you enjoy it, and don’t worry about having to make it more than that.

i'm gonna be real with you guys i do not give a shit about people "stealing" outdoor cats. i don't feel bad for people who let their cat free roam and found out that someone down the block unknowingly took it in because it was neglected enough for them to think it was a stray.
i went through some of the notes and almost got a blackout bingo. Probably would have if i kept scrolling but there were some bad takes in there and im not in the mood to read more lol
hmm let me think of a super normal, heterosexual thing to comment on this youtube compilation video of hockey players apologizing after accidentally injuring another player
nailed it

It should be mentioned that none of these strikes is a protest, a symbol, a statement or a way to raise awareness. A strike is not a performance. A strike can have two functions: it’s a threat or it’s a fight.
A temporary strike displays the combined strength of the workers and a prolonged strike brings to bare that combined strength against the boss. In both cases, the combined workers must be strong enough to force concessions. It’s about power.

KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE | 魔女の宅急便 1989 | dir. Hayao Miyazaki
“I don’t think we’re born with a natural tendency to protect the environment. I think it’s something we learn if we’re educated and brought up to have the manners to care for the world. At some stage in our lives, the greed factor became stronger, and that has led us to the horrible situation we’re in now. A CHANGE IS NECESSARY, and I believe my films convey that.“ - Hayao Miyazaki
