“Jesus gives rest for our soul

Psalm 131 is one of the shortest psalms in the Bible. It provides a simple and easy-to-understand message, which is that God provides rest for the soul that follows him. In the first verse, the psalmist showed that he was aware that there are heavenly things that are outside his knowledge and unattainable for his own understanding. Instead of choosing to try to understand everything that God was doing, he decided not to occupy himself with “great matters or things too wonderful for me.” Instead, the psalmist compared himself to a weaned child that is at ultimate peace with its mother. Young children are not worried about getting a job, making money, providing for a family or any other stresses that may come with being a parent. A child trusts that its mother is going to care for him or her. The psalmist was saying that his relationship with God was similar. There may be a lot of events going on in the world that God is involved in, but all the psalmist concerned himself with was his personal relationship with God.

A right relationship with God in intended to be a high priority for a believer. Once someone is able to grasp an understanding of that concept, the natural result is a calm and quiet soul. The psalmist understood that if everything was fine between him and God, he did not need to concern himself with whatever was going on outside of that.” - The Jesus Bible, NIV Version
