Today has been super freaking long, literally.
I woke up around 5:30am to finish packing and to be ready by 6am when Tiar arrived. He printed out and brought my boarding passes for me which was really nice! I said my goodbye to Nana before Tiar, Tiur, and I left for the airport and it was so sad L she really has become a close friend of mine during my stay in Jogja.
Tiur and I rode in a taxi and Tiar followed behind on his motorbike. We met Sani at the airport and she brought Tiur and I a VIA Indonesia bag! I’m so happy lol. I then said farewell to Sani, Tiar, and Tiur and, again, it was so sad! Sani has been a terrific program director and Tiar a terrific assistant program director—they both have given me guidance and friendship during my stay here and I am so grateful. Tiur has been a fabulous internship partner— I was so glad when Tiar told me that she was going to be my partner. She has also become a close friend of mine during my stay in Jogja—I’ll never forget our warung meals, Calais runs, motorbike rides, internship shenanigans, or anything else! She even gave me a present before I left, but she told me not to open it until I get back to the U.S… I can’t wait to see what’s inside!
After I said goodbye to everyone, my trip back to the states officially began. I left Jogja at approximately 12pm and arrived in Jakarta at about 1pm. Then, I left Jakarta at about 4pm and arrived in Singapore at 6pm (jumped ahead one hour). Now, I am still in Singapore LOL. I really fucked up when I booked my return flights because I got confused about the time differences, but oh well. The Singapore airport is really nice. If I had to choose an airport to be stuck in for 14 hours it would be this one. I really should have jumped onto the free city tour when I got here though because now it’s too late… L now I need to definitely come back and visit Singapore because the tour looks really cool in the airport guide!
My flight is boarding at 7:55am and then I get to basically go back in time hahaha. August 11th is going to be a lonnnnggggg day…

Today was an epic last day in Jogja. I forgot to mention in my last entry that Nana got a skirt custom made for me from a designer friend of her’s! :D She gave it to me last night and it is so beautiful—she’s the best :,) So I wore it all day today and I even got some compliments on it lol.
Tiur and I got up early and we went to an awesome spa. I got a much needed mani pedi and I also got my eyebrows done, which was long overdue lol. I liked this spa better than the one that I went to with Nana, the people were friendlier and it wasn’t as crowded. Plus I just didn’t really care too much for the massage that I got last time—too touchy feely and not enough deep massaging on the back area. The mani pedi that I got today was perfect because my nails look nice and I got my arms and legs massaged and scrubbed haha.
After the spa, Tiur took me to gado-gado because I realllyyyy wanted it for my last lunch. It was so freaking good! Gado-gado is definitely my favorite Indonesian dish. Then we headed over to Kampung Halaman for one last farewell before I leave in the morning. It was so sad saying bye to everyone L Mbak Fitri said to stay in touch over email and that I could Skype with everyone whenever I want. The secretaries said that I should bring my family to Indonesia with me next time haha J We even took a few last pictures—my internship was so awesome! I’m so lucky.
Tiur and I went back to the homestay for a bit after Kampung Halaman and then we went out with Rak and Nana to Secret Garden Chocolate and Coffee for dinner. It was sooo cool! The restaurant is in a beautiful garden with a gazebo and tables and chairs and pretty lights and hearts and a balcony and ahhhh it was just so nice! It is definitely more of a romantic restaurant because apparently a lot of couples propose on the balcony. If I were to get married in Jogja, I would definitely have my reception at that restaurant lol.
After dinner, we went to the mall to grab me one last Calais bubble tea L I love bubble tea so much… I really wish that we had a Calais in the U.S. I really want to open my own coffee shop one day and I think it would be a great idea to have Indonesian coffee and tea products on the menu with toppings like bubbles, pudding, and grass jelly. I think that would definitely set my shop apart from the rest and make it special—plus, the coffee and tea of Indonesia is just so freaking amazing that everyone will love it lol
After Calais we went to a shisha bar and it was SO much fun. Rak really knows how to smoke shisha LOL and Tiur was struggling so hard to get anything from the pipe lmao and Nana almost slipped and fell down the stairs (luckily she was holding onto me haha). We took a lot of pictures and had a lot of laughs J
Bagus even stopped by the homestay after we got back from the shisha bar to say goodbye. We were going to hang out at Asmara for one last time tonight, but it didn’t work out because he had to stay at Kampung Halaman late preparing for Jalan Remaja. It’s okay though, Jalan Remaja is very important!! And at least we still got to say goodbye.
WOOOOO what a way to spend my last day in Jogja… it’s been AMAZING! <3
My last day was full of adventure (: definitely going to miss my new friends and Jogja❤️
Last dinner in Jogja😭💔
I'm going to miss Kampung Halaman😭💔

Tiur and I ate at our favorite Warung next to Sanata Dharma University today before heading to Kampung Halaman. It was soooo goooood… I love bakwan lol. Alex called me while we were there which was nice :) he’s so excited for me to come home and I am too. I’m definitely going to miss Indonesia, but I really miss Alex and the fam. Next time I come to Indonesia, I am bringing them with me LOL.
When we got to Kampung Halaman, I submitted my application and started working on translating the press release that Mas Edhi emailed me during the Jalan Remaja meeting last week to English. It wasn’t that difficult, I even finished it before we left! :D
I also had my formal farewell today, which was sad :( Tiar came and he brought a cake with him which was awesome because I was thinking about bringing a cake to Kampung Halaman before leaving as a farewell gift. I guess he read my mind lol. Mbak Fitri talked to us about the review that I wrote about Selamat Pagi Vol. 10 and gave me feedback. She appreciated the attention to detail like I thought she would which was great. She responded to everything that I wrote in the review and I appreciate that a lot. It shows that she really cares about what I think and my perspective on the event.
She was also very understanding about me not having the peace article and the article about my youth finished yet—she told me that it was okay for me to send them to her when I get back to the US thank God. I’ve just been so occupied at Kampung Halaman working on my blog, going to meetings, translating, and working on my review that I just didn’t have time. I would have worked on them at the homestay, but everyone always wants to hangout and I don’t want to say no because I’m leaving so soon. And when I’m not hanging out with someone I’m working on something that’s due back in the U.S. like a job application, a book review, RA Pre-Training, or something else… it’s frustrating lol. I’ll focus on writing the articles when I’m back on campus during breaks between RA training.
After the internship, Tiur and I went to the mall to meet-up with Chelsea. It was a lot of fun—I finally found a dragon souvenir for Jacob because he likes dragons so much lol. I also bought a lot of snacks to bring back to the US and a huge bag to fit them all in with the rest of my things that won’t fit in my luggage hahaha.
After the mall we went to a restaurant called Via Via for my farewell dinner with VIA (apparently they didn’t pick the restaurant on purpose because I asked if it was a pun lol). We were an hour late though and I felt so bad :( Tiur said that it wouldn’t matter if we were late, but I still felt bad anyways… luckily no one seemed upset when we finally got there, which was good. One of the nice ladies from Kampung Halaman was even there—that made me so happy. :) I was also very happy about the veggie burger and fries that I got. :) :) :)
After dinner, we went to an awesome gelato place. The gelato wasn’t as good as the gelato in Italy, but it still hit the spot! It was thicker, so the consistency resembled more of an ice cream consistency, but hey I didn’t mind… I love ice cream lol. I got Nutella and pistachio… :)
After the gelato I said goodbye to everyone that I’m not going to see anymore and it was so hard :( but at least everyone knows each other’s whatsapp number and follows each other on social media, so we’ll definitely stay in touch. I’ve met some of the nicest people ever during my stay here— I’m so glad that I came to Indonesia! <3
Had my farewell dinner with VIA... today has been really sad :,(
My formal farewell from the best internship ever :( so sad!!

I didn’t leave the homestay at all today lol. Tiur got back from Solo City late and Nana spent the whole day spending time with her family. It was kind of relaxing staying at the homestay all day and taking a break from always being out and about.
I worked on an application that is due tomorrow for a new Engagement Consulting program that Wake is starting. I know that I already do a lot at Wake Forest, but consulting is something that I am very interested in. I spent all year last year trying to start Consult Your Community and we still don’t have a charter… I find it kind of fishy that the Office of Student Engagement still hasn’t gotten back to me about CYC, but has started this new consulting program… Oh well, I’m going to apply anyway. Might as well apply for something that the school already approves of instead of continuing to try and get something started that is taking forever. I’m going to still try and get a charter for CYC and continue with the training from CYC national, but it wouldn’t hurt to have a plan B in case things don’t end up working out.
The application took a while because I kept getting caught up on the short answer questions. To me, it’s always hard to answer questions like, “what can you bring to our organization?” How am I supposed to answer that in a short way???? I can bring A LOT lol. Its questions like these that are hard for writing minors like me to answer—I want to write an essay, but I need to be brief. I also had to update my resume which didn’t take too long, but it was still somewhat frustrating because I had to delete a few bullets in order for everything to fit onto one page. At least it’s done so that I don’t have to worry about updating it once school starts and the career fair comes around the corner.
I also began packing today which was an enlightening experience… I definitely need to buy another bag. I’ve bought a lot of things during my time here in Indonesia because everything is so cheap and awesome lol. I should have brought my bigger suitcase… oh well, a new bag will be another awesome souvenir. :D
Had a lot of fun at the mall LOL and Suicide Squad was AWESOME😆💥
My new friends are the best (: went souvenir shopping at the Batik shop and went to Starbucks WOOO 👛☕️💟

Nana and I went to Museum Sonobudoyo early this morning because of the free tickets that I got at Starbucks last night. It was really cool! My favorite part was definitely the room at the end with all of the elaborate statues. The puppets and masks were also really cool, but they were kind of creepy lol. It was great having Nana there because she was able to tell me a little bit about everything in each room since she has been to the museum a few times before. Some of the artifacts were only pictures and the descriptions read that they were somewhere else (most commonly in either Singapore or New York)—Nana was a little frustrated about this because the artifacts are from Jogja, but she said as long as they’re safe, she guessed that it didn’t matter too much.
After the museum we went to a Batik store in order for me to do a little bit more souvenir shopping before leaving in a few days. I found the perfect Buddha for Kim for her birthday which was good. I also found some cool bracelets that I can sort out later who to give to when I get back to the U.S.
Then we went to Starbucks because we were starving and I wanted to use my Starbucks card, but unfortunately we found out that my balance was $0… this really pissed me off because Starbucks is still expensive here and I thought that I bought credits for the card when I paid Rp 200,000 yesterday at Starbucks. I thought that Starbucks cards here worked the same way where you bought credits when you got the card, so I thought that I had Rp 200,000 on the card, but I guess I misunderstood the cashier. Oh well, at least I got a cool tumbler, free museum tickets, and an Indonesian Starbucks card. This is even more incentive to come back so that I can actually use the card lol.
We went back to the homestay for a little bit after Starbucks to rest and then went to Hartono Mall to hangout. We were thinking about going to a food festival, but I’m glad we didn’t because when we got to the mall, there was a festival going on inside! Lol, we made the right decision. We ate nasi gorang (fried rice) for dinner with an interesting dessert drink (coconut milk with chocolate syrup and squares of white bread) before walking through the festival in the middle of the mall. I didn’t care too much for the white bread chunks because they were too soggy and the consistency was weird, but I gave mine to Nana lol. The chocolate coconut milk was yummy though.
I got a yummy cookie drink when we walked through the festival—it was in a plastic container shaped like a light bulb and the straw was bent into the shape of a heart. The coolest part was that a blinking blue and red Hello Kitty keychain hung off of the straw LOL. I can be such a kid sometimes, but it was so worth it… :)
