I am finished with my dress! I love wearing it, it's very comfy.

It combines the bicolored cable patterns Kells and Lindisfarne by Lucy Hague into a dress. I also added short rows and a box pleat to make it a good fit for me.

I've finished the cable pattern of my dress based on Kells by Lucy Hague and I'm quite happy so far with the fit. I'm doing rounds of blocking and trying it on every 5cms or so and adjusting my in-/decreases accordingly. I'm contemplating short rows for the belly now.

I’ve tried on the yoke of my dress (after blocking). It fits well enough and I think I’m ready to separate sleeves and body. I’ve used scoubidous to mock up the stitches between sleeves and body, which was spontaneous idea but worked quite well I think.

It's based on the pattern Kells by Lucy Hague and later I want to incorporate Lindisfarne as well.

Yarn is malabrigo rios and Louet Gems Sportweight.

I’ve finished the first two color cable sock and the started the second even though I was sorely tempted to start a new project. The second has the colors reversed. The pattern is Morganna by Atelier Midsummer's Eve, from knitty.com and the yarn is two mini skein sets dyed by me in a mini skein gradient experimenting dye session.

After being finished with gift knitting, I'm continuing with my own stuff again. It's the yoke of a dress - based on the sweater pattern Kells by Lucy Hague. These two colored cables are really intriguing!

Another holiday gift. It's for my mother in law, who always has cold hands. The pattern is called Pearl Mitts by Jungmi Ryu.

I found this original outline of Amok Time and there are some interesting differences with how it ends.

So when Spock confronts T’Pring after “killing” Kirk, she reveals that like people all over the universe, she has found herself in revolt against “the old ways” because she has fallen in love with someone else. (The emphasis on social tradition limiting her from being with her “true love” is important to note.)

T’Pring feels guilty about forcing Kirk and Spock to fight, so she tries to make amends (lol sorry I made you kill your best friend, I guess I’ll let you marry me now) by offering marriage to him. Spock “makes his choice.” He turns her down and returns to the Enterprise to be with Kirk. The episode concludes with them staring at one another and holding hands.

Let’s think about this for a moment. T’Pring tells Spock that falling in love with her partner was socially unacceptable and against “the old ways.” She explains that she didn’t want to go through with the wedding because she wanted to “go back to her true love.” Spock understands what she has gone through, and also “understands now more than ever before what an extraordinary love” made his father so devoted to Amanda the Earthwoman. He rejects her as his wife, (because remember, this whole thing is supposed to be about finding mates) then immediately goes to find Kirk. When they’re reunited, they meaningfully hold hands. Is anyone else seeing some pretty intriguing parallels here?

I have never seen these drafts, but I am not at all surprised: Theodore Sturgeon absolutely unambiguously depicted Spock and Kirk as a romantic couple, not just bros being dudes. (Look up some LGBT short sci-fi stories that Sturgeon wrote in the freaking 50s, and you'll see that he depicts Spirk in the same way, using the same literary means. Sturgeon's short story 'The world well lost' reads like an AU Spirk fanfic). The problem with Sturgeon and his vision of Spirk, of course, is that he wasn't the only or even the main writer for TOS teleplays, he was only a really good one and this is why his episodes pop out.

So it is absolutely true that there is not only a reference to homosexuality/homophobia (when T'Pring speaks about the old ways), but the parallels between Spirk and Sarek/Amanda are pretty deliberate, I'd say, showing that both couples are mates (t'hy'la mates, but this word wasn't yet conceived during Amok Time, I think).

Anyway, Spirk is canon, there can't be any doubts.

Another sock project - Smokey Zickzacks by Natalia Vasilieva - sideways knitted socks in lots of different sock yarns from an advent calendar swap. Very happy so far

I'm done with a small lovey for my grandniece. The feathers are loosely knitted in wool fiber and fulled in the washing machine after knitting.

A new project I'm working on - a sideways knitted summer skirt. I'm on 19 of 55 green stripes. The pattern is called Ashley Skirt by Trudy van Stralen and the yarn is a fingering green bamboo handdyed by me and Drops loves you 9 cotton in 11 different colors, leftovers from another project.
