In order to create or use magic properly. Something has to be offered in order to receive something of equal value back, its always been like this for millenia (with both types of magic both historically and in fantasy). So in this scenario in order to bring peace and save her people (both mewmans and monsters), she had to sacrifice the one thing she loved having aside from family, friends, and Marco.
Her Powers and Lineage.
She sacrificed the gift of magic to save her own people, and that is the ultimate sacrifice one can make to achieve a goal not for oneself, but for those in need of a miracle. I would like to present the hypothesis that the writers of the show intended to showcase us all her shenanigans and adventures featuring her wand and usage of magic to help us see that Star doesn't treat magic like an easy access ammunition storage.
They meant to show us and make us feel that magic is a part of who Star Butterfly is.
All that build up for four seasons, all those adventures, all of that to destroy magic not to end an era of magic (for both mewni and us viewers) or destroy a show (like srsly give them a break), but to show everyone watching that not only is Star more than capable of so much more with or without her magic;
That a part of a story, is its end.

I mean we all saw star witness Toffee being crushed by a pillar and hearing Globgor ate Shastican. But at this point, she saw a immortal beast finally disappear (toffee) and only heard the story of Shasticans demise from Eclipsa (a bit gruesome to think, but better than witnessing it).
