played the mage origin for the first time evr yesterday and i cant believe the deal w the harrowing is just these old fuckers from the circle sending you to the fade to have this lil sesame street lesson on the terrible wickedness of all demons by (reads notes) making the demon tour guide they pretty much hired for this job/have a symbiotic relationship with try to get that stupid ass point across. as if i wouldnt realize this guy is the demon equivalent of someone who works as a company mascot. like am i really supposed to be scared of mouse the fucked up circle mascot and the dude that helped me pass the time by telling me riddles and taught me to transform into a fucking bear?? like theyre not that trustworthy but . im supposed to believe these funny mfs r the evilest thing in the world?? with their pathetic swag?? when the circle was the one that set this whole death trap deal up?? if i were surana and had gone thru all that fun shit in the fade the next time i saw a demon i would suck them silly

I think it’s Very Funny that if you ignore all of the red flags and give into whatever Mouse wants, he instead just confesses his plot and lets you off with a warning about being overly trusting. The Templars and collaborators like Irving were deliberately entrapping young apprentices (who, virtually by definition, in their teens or earlier) into committing (victimless but) capital offenses as an excuse to kill them or turn them Tranquil for slave labor, but A Literal Demon thinks this is totally fucked up and will let you go unharmed. The mage protagonist may have only survived in the first place because a demon took mercy on them, since the Templars both summoned the demon in the first place (with zero warning until about 5 seconds before showtime) and openly state they would have knifed you on the spot if you fell for the demon’s tricks and accidentally let it possess you. In other words, it was An Actual Demon who thought you deserved to live, whereas the Templars were ready to kill you for flunking their bizarre and confusing loyalty test.

Anyways, there are some really hilarious implications and symbolism here.
