Some of you are probably following my current story, Entangled.
We're at crossroads, my lovely readers.
I'm planning future chapters and as things between Thorin and Mista get even more complicated, I thought I'd ask you about what direction you'd like it to take when it comes to the story rating. Currently it's G-rated but the story is going to take a deep dive into complicated feelings and dynamic plus serious issues.
Example:
G-rated chapters will have close to zero serious issues or very vague descriptions of things happening, as in "there was a dangerous battle but everyone survived and all is peachy".
E-rated story may contain a scene when an avalanche happens, people get injured or worse, and it has a visible impact on the story.
This story will never include gore or explicit descriptions of injuries because it's not my cup of tea.
What kind of story would you like Entangled to become in future?
G-rated: keeping things clean, nothing beyond a chaste kiss, minimum angst.
T-rated: a bit of spicy content and fade to black, some serious issues.
M-rated: vague and short smut scenes, serious issues may happen.
G-rated: more detailed but tasteful smut, more realistic serious issues.

Something I've been thinking about lately is the shame around writing slowly, and how prevalent it is for people to be upset about not being able to write a lot really quickly. About how so much of writing advice is "how to write more faster," and how many people seeking advice are asking how to write a thousand words a day, and how big of an annual thing NaNoWriMo is because it's difficult but there's this general vibe of condescension for those who don't participate or who don't "win."
And I used to feel ashamed too. I'd get frustrated by my apparent inability to write more than a few hundred words in a sitting on a good day. I'd beat myself up for only managing my bare minimum of fifty words, I'd try again and again at NaNoWriMo and hate myself for not being able to do it.
But I've realized that if I didn't write slowly, my stories wouldn't be what they are. I wouldn't love them so much, because they wouldn't have become what they did - because they had time to bloom.
And I've also realized that while I have had moments in time where I wrote like that - multiple thousands of words a day for days or weeks on end - that's... not something I aspire to.
I write slow! That's okay!
I'm proud of writing slow. I'm proud of having gotten to the point where I put myself and my process before what others expect of me.
You don't need to be fast. You don't need to be ashamed.
Same tbh. The way people construct writing and their identity as writers on this webbed site is kind of baffling and alien to me tbh.
I do also wonder how many of them actually enjoy writing - I remember putting a lot of effort into my drawing/painting and finding it so frustrating every step of the way and then I stopped and thought. Wait. Writing is never so painfully frustrating to me. Sure there are blocks and holdups but it never feels like pulling out teeth the way this does. And then I realized that writing is my thing and visual art isn't. I enjoy looking at art but I don't enjoy the process of creating it. I don't get excited about the techniques or the details of it, I don't like experimenting and figuring out the optimal way of conveying something, I just like seeing a finished product I relate to. And the way a lot of people talk about writing sounds like that to me, and I can't help but wonder if they enjoy the process of writing at all, or if they're just after the next serotonin hit when people leave kudos on their fanfic or OC or whatever.
And then I wonder if these people haven't built so much of online writing culture that even if you DO want to write and connect to other people who do you're immediately met with this... just lie back and think of England attitude to it, just grit your teeth and try to get through it as fast as possible, that it kind of... triggers the hypercompetitive productivity worship grindset that life instills in us even in people who WOULD otherwise enjoy it.
Like it's a hobby. Why do you do something as a hobby if it makes you miserable 90% of the time? Do something else! Find a more productive way of expressing yourself! You nerdy types always give me shit for being sporty because "why would I do something that's painful and exhausting", apply your own advice ffs!

Like I'll reblog memes about being frustrated from being stuck, but being stuck is part of the fun for me. I wouldn't like writing so much if I didn't get the satisfaction of finally figuring out a scene that's been giving me hell, just like I wouldn't like puzzle games so much if I didn't get a rush from finally getting it right!!
And I feel like the majority of the community isn't actually hating writing while they do it (exaggeration as comedy is absolutely at play) but the overall guilty and frustrated energy around writing online (and persevering/having a "grindset" in general) certainly doesn't help if someone finds the process god-awful (some people would benefit from quitting!! and it doesn't need to be framed as a negative!!).
In recent years we've gotten a lot better as a community about recognizing that everyone's process is different and respecting that, thankfully, but I never see celebration of the things we used to outright say are "bad" like speed, quitting something, switching between projects, perpetual WIPs, etc. Which I'm happy to help provide, but I have to find the words for all that first. And I shouldn't be the only one.
As this years' event slowly comes to an end, we are now searching for a brave soul or two who would wish to join our team. We're particularly interested in someone who is able to share their perspective as an art creator so that we can make our event even more artist-friendly and continue to ensure that all the creators' needs (both artists and writers) are met as we prepare for the 2024 edition.
