the man who owns and runs the thai restaurant in my town knows me by name. he is one of the kindest and most thoughtful men i know. i started ordering from his place back in january, which was when i got my fibromyalgia diagnosis. back then i was using a walker, had limited mobility in my entire body but especially my hands, and was very visibly in pain. i always ordered the same thing: yellow curry with no meat, potatoes and carrots only (i have texture and other dietary issues). he always made it a point to make sure i could get out the door and carry the food safely. he had his workers package the food so that it was easier for me to open. as i kept coming back and i told him a little bit about my health status, he would always encourage me to keep going. he told me about how the spices he used were good for inflammation and began to edit the recipe just for me so that spices that were even better for fighting inflammation were used. he’d give me extra portions and despite the fact that i would tip every time, i realized later that he never charged my card for them. as time went on and my condition began to get better, especially with the help of a physical therapist, he would make encouraging remarks and tell me how happy he was for me. the day i came in without my walker, he practically jumped for joy, and despite my insistence, he gave me my meal for free that day. i continue to make progress with my conditions and i continue to go to the thai place. this man who does not know me personally and who i hardly know anything about is one of my favorite people. it’s interactions with humans like these that make loving life easier. and his curry really does help my chronic condition. it’s comfort food taken to the next level.
This is what I think about when people ask what the meaning of life is

recently reread stop counting stars, and in the last few months i’ve been having some exposure to different OCD types that are making me think i might have it. my OCD—if it is OCD—isn’t really like Steve’s, but i remember being so, like, sad uncomfortable uncertain weird-feeling when reading SCS—not, like, in a way reflective your writing but that like, so much of his experience made me really sad? and i didn’t really understand why at the time, couldn’t put a finger on it. but this recent reread hurt in a way that felt very connected and familiar to my own experiences. anyway thanks for writing SCS. my research on OCD continues while i impatiently sit on a dx assessment waitlist. hope you’re well
this made want to cry in a good way. like, "hi. I'm sorry you understand/thank you for understanding/the world can be really hard sometimes/I'm glad i live in a world where my words met you/i dont know you, but I'm rooting for you" kind of way.
thank you <3 and thank you for telling me that. im doing good!
Exposing myself now as the anon from this ask to announce, many moons later, that I did eventually get the OCD diagnosis. Among other diagnoses, none of which were surprising and all of which were quite validating. Anyway, SCS was part of the journey of me pursuing diagnosis and hopefully one day I can get treatment (ERP terrifies me) and I’m grateful to moments like this one where I felt like a little bit scared but not alone in my thought spiraling issues.

If we're gonna invite people in our home, we are gonna look like a fucking family.
Steve 15 and 2 months doesn't have much body hair but he still probably shaves for swimming.... maybe now that he has a grown up in his life he can stop playing with objects too sharp and dangerous for little boys, and let Eddie take care of it for him.
I just know that freaky librarian would be into it.
Eddie does in fact do all the heavy lifting lmao
@recklessandlazy is there anything the freaky librarian isn't into?
Plenty! Billionaires. Privatizing public resources. Book censorship. When daylight savings makes it pitch black outside and he’s the groggiest man in America trying to get up for work.
Omg true. Man has a very specific vendetta against one of his local representatives over something very niche im sure. He is also old, so he's not into the shift from physical to digital owning of movies or music. He does not like water chestnuts. Neil Hargrove. The toilet paper they buy at the library because its single ply.
He does like teaching his little boy all new things tho.
@hiei-harringtonmunson confirmed, lots he doesn’t like :)

He said the food overall was truly exceptional. And creative. He said the talent here is undeniable. That there's a scallop dish he hasn't been able to stop thinking about and the hospitality was beautiful. He said the room felt alive without being precious or try-hard.

You don’t have to think you’re hot but other people inevitably are going to so you at least need learn to accept that perception with grace instead of falling back on self deprecation every time someone is brave enough to call you cute
