Kirsh is SO FUNNY to me because he so clearly walked out of one of the prequels that love to dramatically explore religion and science and shit. And he's been stuck with a bunch of kids who think they're the Goonies.

hey, I went to Mad At You Island and it wasn't empty. there was a stranger you were a bit curt with on a bad day, an old friend who you got into a falling out with, a labmate who's experiment you messed up by mistake, someone who's birthday you forgot, an internet stranger who is hellbent on deciding you're not morally good enough for not reblogging a post or not following a one day boycott. and it is kind of mortifying to realise that Mad At You Island will never be uninhabited, but it's just a fact of life. and if you try to reduce the population to zero, you'll end up whittling yourself down to nothing
the thing so many people don't understand is that the reason wikipedia is generally not accepted as a source has nothing to do with accuracy. wikipedia is (generally) extremely accurate! the reason wikipedia isn't allowed as a source for school is because it's a summary of other sources. wikipedia has correct information, but it gets that information from OTHER places, which are either primary or secondary sources, which lends them credibility that wikipedia technically lacks.
so yes, wikipedia is a GREAT resource to learn new things! but if you want in depth, specific, and creditable sources, don't use wikipedia! use wikipedia's cited sources!!
I wish everyone who was ever into knock down drag out fandom fights would direct all that energy towards their city council, I feel like that would transform society overnight.
like. You know how if you keep tabs on council meetings and your councilor says something dumb as hell and you not only get to call them on it, but grab all your friends to dogpile them??? and if you do it enough you can actually find a replacement for them who won’t say as much dumb shit and will actually allocate funds for the unhoused and pressure the police chief to stop lying? wayyyyyy more fun than going uncorked at some teenage rando with an untagged incest ship.
#I guarantee your city councilor is so much weirder than your online nemesis (via @magnesiumflare)
one time i was at a city council meeting where the chief of police and the mayor got into a screaming match, because the mayor had picked up and thrown out trash in someone's yard (an open, half-empty bottle of antifreeze (poisonous) that had been sitting out for months and it was now July) and the chief of police arrested him for trespassing and theft, and the mayor had to bail himself out of jail in order to attend the city council meeting.
You want drama? You want fic inspiration? You want to have an immediate impact on the world? local politics is your answer
The ideal household has three people in it: one who would rather cook for three than ever have to do laundry or dishes, one who would rather do three peoples' dishes than ever have to cook or do laundry, and one who would rather do three peoples' laundry than ever have to cook or wash dishes.
"For mature audiences" not as in "legally allowed to see a boob" but "can see a fictional character do a bad thing and not immediately go on a crusade against the author"

giles: buffy, what is spike doing there?
buffy: he is my emotional support vampire.
giles: you already had one, didn`t he prove to be trouble enough for you?
buffy: in my defense the other one wasn`t emotional or supportive...
Ok, here is the OFFICIAL AND ONLY CORRECT GUIDE to starting reading Prachetts Books. Its a multiple step process, so read all steps carefully otherwise you will be wrong and shunned to eternity.
1. Go outside.
2. Trust the universe for once in your life.
3. Find any of these: Library, Thriftstore, secondhand bookshop, a cupboard with free books, ...
3. Locate the Prachett Book.
4. The universe has now deciced with which book you must start with.
5. Compliment the universe for its wisdom.
6. From there on repeat the steps above.
This is the way
no one talks about how straight up painful it is to be the bigger person when deep in your soul you just want to be a huge bitch about it
Really good basis for a billion dollar lawsuit.
Slightly, hun, you're not winning an Oscar anytime soon for that "act natural" performance💀
I’m a man and I make a lot of posts about the harmful things men do, posts about how fathers are less likely to be involved in their children’s lives but more likely to kill them, posts about domestic abuse and gendered violence experienced by women, posts about shitty corners of the Internet populated by men who hate women. This is not because I, a man, think men are inherently predisposed to evil. It’s because I’m sick of other men trying to make it all men. I’m sick of dudes acting like they have no idea why women are growing less and less interested in starting families with them and dating. It is because you cannot say “not all men, not me” and not speak about the men who are doing it and acknowledge gender gaps in violence and abuse and apathy. It is because I hope other men see this and stop downplaying women’s experiences and realize, hey, it might not be you but it is other men. It is misogyny. It is our culture. It is not inherent. You have the power to change your mindset and your behavior and be aware of the world around you.
