FUCK, I though it was just another lucky meme but LISTEN. Since a week ago I was waiting a phone call to confirm me if I got a job or not in my university. I reblogged this yesterday’s night “just for fun and because I don’t want any bagel to be mad with me”, and today’s afternoon, while I was losing my time as always, the professor I was supposed to work with called me and asked me for my personal information to start working with her.

The Generic Fantasy Protagonist.
Closely related to the Generic Sword Fighter - sometimes these niches overlap - the GFP is meant to be the perfect all-rounder for a fantasy anime hero. Once the touchstone of fantasy anime in the 80s & 90s - identifiable by large shoulder armor and cloaks, and outfits that don't really lean too hard into any distinct character class/archetypes.
They might wear bits of armor - such as the pauldrons mentioned earlier, breastplates, perhaps gauntlets or boots, but rarely a full set of plate armor. Alternatively, even if they lean to a specific archetype and use more conventional weapons or magic, they'll stick to more marketable and standard hero weapons and powers. Swords, fire magic, ect.
They can be swordsmen, wizards, monks, barbarians, warlocks - sometimes, multiple characters will dress similarly with differences in color and accessories. Mostly because it's much simpler to design for and gives more creative freedom. Alternatively, if they're the only heroes dressing like this, then the rest of their cast might dress with obvious leaning into specific fantasy archetypes - a spellcaster might dress in long robes, a barbarian might wear furs, ect.
And sadly, this artist likes this aesthetic. :P
Feels like we need a chart or family tree connecting Record of Lodoss War to, like, Konosuba. Cause I assure you, the 'Generic Fantasy Protagonist' isn't extinct.
