I know I joke about Kyle being Bruce's favorite lantern a lot but I do think Bruce has the easiest time talking with Kyle because Kyle is at the age where he could be a former sidekick. Kyle acts a little sassy and talks back and Bruce is just like ah yes. I know how to handle this. I remember Dick's rebellious phase. I have the Correct social script.

If electricity runs through it, it has sound.

Rarely is there actual silence (and that does bother me due to lack of sensory input).

This is why the barn uses me when they think the horses are reacting to a noise they can’t hear. I’ll likely find it (it’s usually the heating or the electrical box in the indoor).

I also know when the electric fences are on.

For years I was convinced that I was either hallucinating or had hearing damage, because electronics always made this high-pitched whine that was closer to being felt than heard, and nobody else knew what I was talking about. Then I met other autistic people.

I could always hear sounds like electronic squirrel repellents, TV screens, and so on make. Luckily, my dad was kind of an audio nerd and also had exceptional hearing at high pitches, although he was less good at locating the source of sounds than me, so I could say “Oh, hey, there’s an annoying noise at 23,000 Hz coming from the new thing that was installed over the garage door” and he’d be like “oh, that’s been annoying me for days, now that you’ve figured it out I’m gonna go turn that off”

And yes electric fences have sounds and fluorescent lights and… everything.

Has there been a JL post/story about the JL finding out that Batman is the youngest on the team??

Obviously, this connects to the Young Bruce Wayne trope, but has there been one where the JL just doesn't know Bruce's age or assumes he's older because Dick is like 25?

Like Let’s say the Batfam ages are:

Alfred - 60, Bruce - 36, Barbara - 27, Dick - 25, Cass - 23, Jason - 22, Steph - 22, Tim - 18, Duke - 17 (about to turn 18), Damian - 11

This means Bruce adopted Dick at 19/20 (whether Dick was 8 or 9), and became Batman at like 17. (He first met Superman at 18)

So when Dick joined the YJ team at 13, Bruce was only 25/26 while the rest of the members of the JL were 30-36, with Barry (who everyone thinks is the youngest) being 30. A 5-year age gap between the two.

Now we have the JL assuming Batman is older while Batman is assuming the JL is younger.

I bet the whole thing would come to light with the BatKids giving Bruce a "Happy 40th Birthday" surprise (a joke to call him old).

By then, the JL is 45-51. Their souls are crushed (especially Barry's) to find out that Batman is 5-10 years YOUNGER than them.

At the same time, Batman is absolutely astonished to find out the JL is not as young as he is and that he just became the "Baby of the Team".

In your head, how do you ball park Jay and Roy's ages? Or any of your favourite characters, really.

I use Damian! The comics tend to be pretty good about stating how old he is.

Current, Damian is 14. He was 10 when he was introduced, which was very very close to when Under the Red Hood happened, and Jason was 19 at the time, which means Jason and Damian have a 9 year age difference. That makes Jason 23 now. (I'm ignoring the 6 months Jason was in his grave because I don't know how to count that and I don't feel like figuring it out.)

Jason was 15 when he died, and a Titans comic around the same time had Dick mention in passing that he was 20, so I figure they have a 5 year age difference. I assume Dick and Roy are the same ages, so that would mean that Roy is also 5 years older than Jason, which would make him 28 now.

Of course, this is somewhat guesswork and the comics aren't actually consistent - like, Jason is 12 when he's first introduced and Dick is at least 19 by then which would make their age difference bigger. Dick and Wally are the same age, but Dick started college in the late 60s and Wally was still in high school in the early 80s. Characters in comics don't age at the same rate, or get randomly de-aged (TIMOTHY), or the writers make mistakes. I figure as long as I can point to some canon for my source material and make a good argument, I can coast on vibes somewhat.

if we put aside the mafia and possible execution part, the deal Neil got with Ichirou is a steal. "Eighty percent of your earnins for the entirety of your career will be sufficient." first of all, Neil said an average professional Exy player makes 3 million dollars a year, even after giving Moriyamas their cut he's left with 600k per year which is more than enough to live comfortably and not worry about money for the foreseeable future. and the wording of this deal suggested that even though he's expected to sustain his career for as long as possible, he can retire at some point. not "for the rest of your life", just "for the entirety of your career", that's an easy way out.

To come back around and be serious on this post, I think I've accidentally hit on part of what made the original "Sold To One Direction" meme so funny to people; the two halves, so to speak, of the concept are only jarring because they're being paired together.

Like, teenagers are daydreaming about One Direction? Of course they are--1D was the most successful boy band of the 2010s, and providing a vessel through which young girls can examine their own developing sexuality is (if viewed as positively as possible) what boy bands are for. And teenagers are daydreaming about being sold to hot boys against their will? Sure; the bodice ripper is a very old sub-genre, the appeal of which has been explained many times, and whcih isn't likely to go away any time soon. The thing that makes this weird is the fact that so many teenagers apparently looked at the squeaky-clean, clean-shaven, J-Crew-and-Hollister-clad young men on their bedroom posters and thought "Yeah, these guys look like they could be doing human trafficking. I don't feel the need to spend any time or worldbuilding justifying this to my audience."

If you did this same set-up with, idk, Mötley Crüe, it would still be Some Freaky Shit, but it would undeniably be more tonally consistent with the band's public image, you know?
