Joe DiMaggio Hermit. Mr. Average Joe. Mr. As Human as You can Possibly Be. Not a synth. Not a hybrid. Not an alien. Not super smart. Just a medic. Just a dude. And yet-

And yet: even after being chased by the xenomorph, watching it tear through his friend's face, and hearing all the carnage as it attacked the people in that apartment, he still picked up the gun and headed towards the danger instead of running away from it. Even though he is just a medic and not a solider, he still walked into that apartment- alone - to try to help.

And yet: when he was kidnapped by said Alien, and stuck to a wall, tried to tell his sister to go away because it was a trap and he was more concerned with her safety than his own, and shoved her out of the way of acid even when doing so put him directly underneath it.

And yet: even when he'd just been stabbed through the lung, managed to get up to help his sister, got that door back open as quickly as he could, and was more focused on trying to make sure his sister was okay even when he started vomiting blood.

And yet: despite being stuck on an island where every single thing has tried to kill him/harm him (from the synths to the hybrids to the humans to the aliens) decides to stay on murder island to protect his sister. Who, despite everything being stacked against him, immediately started planning ways to get his sister off the island even though his chances of success were extremely low, the odds of him getting caught were high, and that he was more likely to suffer severe consequences for trying to leave and take Marcy with him. But he was still so desperate to save his sister that he was going to take that risk anyway.

And yet: tried to stop Marcy from calling the xenomorph to kill the soldiers, and tried to stop Nibs from killing his friend.

And yet: when Morrow, a man three times his size, who'd already shot him once before, started beating a soldier to death with his club of an arm, tried to stop him and save the solider even though that put him directly in harms way.

That scrawny little medic who's just trying to do his best and save who he can is probably the strongest character in that show

I was a little disappointed that the Ocellus ended up in Arthur's body, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that's the worst possible outcome for the hybrids.

Up until this point, the hybrids have been operating with the extreme advantage that no one on the island wants to or is allowed to hurt them. The soldiers are under strict orders not to harm the hybrids, to the point where they don't shoot at them even after Nibs rips that guy's jaw off (if I remember correctly, Siberian was the only one who shot at Nibs). Not sure if Yutani is going to play by those rules or not considering how profitable the hybrids might be, but the real danger is going to be the Ocellus. Who's now in Arthur.

I don't think it's been established yet if the Ocellus has access to the memories of its host, or if that would work with a dead body, but if it does then that means it now has access to the memories of someone who helped create the hybrids. It's inside someone who knows exactly how they work, how they were built, how they function, and what weaknesses they might have.

It ending up inside Arthur could cause it to do some real damage to the hybrids, especially if they're riding the high from their extremely easy victory over the adults on Neverland and aren't being as cautious as they should be. The Ocellus is highly intelligent. It's not connected to the island's systems, it's apparently strong enough to put up a fight against a xenomorph, and it has no qualms with killing the hybrids. It already knows the flies can kill them, and now it has access to information it can use to harm them in so many other ways. I'm afraid the hybrids are in for a real wake up call if the show gets another season, not just in learning that life really is complicated, but also in finding out that they're not the strongest, smartest, or most in control thing out there.

As weird as it sounds, the character I'm the most excited to see if we get a season two is Kavalier.

Season one Kavalier was bored. He was dangerously complacent, and honestly a little lazy. But I'm hoping that season two Kavalier will end up showing us exactly why he was nicknamed the boy genius.

Kavalier did so many stupid things in the first season, or didn't do something that he obviously should have done, that anyone with any sense of self-preservation would have done, but I don't think it was because he's stupid. I think it's because he's gotten complacent. It's kinda like when people work certain jobs for long enough that they stop following basic safety rules because they've been doing this for ages and nothing bad ever happens, so why do they need to put in all that extra work? That's the vibe I get from Kavalier.

He hasn't had to be afraid since he was six years old. And even then, he was the one who saved himself. He was the one who outsmarted his father. Since then, he's gotten everything he's wanted. No one's told him no. No one's stood in his way. I doubt anyone's even come close to hurting him. He's always been the smartest person in the room. He's been able to outthink everyone all the time, with no one posing even the smallest bit of a challenge. And I think that's why he never thought about the hybrids becoming an issue, or the aliens becoming an issue. Because nothing's been an issue to him for years.

Even though he created the hybrids with the intention of one of them becoming smart enough to hold a conversation with him, I don't think he ever really thought they would get to that point. That's why his focus shifted to the aliens, even with the dangers they posed to the hybrids, even when everyone else told him it was a bad idea. That's why his focus went to Marcy communicating with the xenomorphs, and then to T. Ocellus. Even when the xenomorph was rampaging around the island, even when the hybrids were taking over the system, and he was completely shut off, Kavalier was still focused on finding someone for T. Ocellus to inhabit, because he still didn't think the hybrids were smarter than him.

But now he knows. Now he knows that Marcy has outsmarted him. Now he's been bested. And he seemed delighted by that. This is everything he's been trying to accomplish. Something he created managed to pull one over on him, they've managed to grow beyond what he thought they were capable of. And now that he knows that, the game can finally begin. I'm hoping we get a season two where Boy Kavalier is actually trying. Where Boy Kavalier is actually putting his whole "brain the size of a planet" onto the playing field. No more complacency, no more boredom, no more laziness. 100% manipulative, intelligent, dangerous Boy Kavalier

the insane experience of missing a fictional character . like you can always go back and reread the book , replay the game , rewatch the show or movie , you can always go back & see them , but you can never experience them & their story for the first time again . its absurd to miss them because they'll always be there , but you'll miss when there were still new things for them to say .

for a small time they were real & growing and changing and you hung onto every new word, but now all they can do is repeat the same story forever&ever & they're not real anymore because you know everything they're going to do. & you miss them. its fucked man...

I am actually really worried about Marcy and Joe. Hoping desperately for it all to work out in the end, but Marcy already seems to struggle with this fear that Joe chose not to see her in the hospital when she was sick. That maybe he didn't want to be with her. You can even hear some of that worry in her voice when she asks him where he was after Arthur turned her hearing back on. She doesn't seem to fully believe him when he tells her that if there'd been a way, he would have found it. And the look on her face later, when Kavalier told her that he would have found a way if he was her brother? She looked like she believed Kavalier more than she did Joe. Which makes sense, because she's a child. She still has that mindset where her big brother can do anything. And she hasn't quite learned yet that if someone as powerful and influential as Boy Kavalier decides that he doesn't want Joe to come visit her, then Joe isn't going to be able to come visit her no matter how hard he tries.

(And while it's always possible Joe didn't really try, I think it's more likely that Boy Kavalier didn't want Joe to be there at the hospital, both as a way to limit the amount of people who know about the secret program, and also to isolate both Marcy and her father to make them more susceptible to agreeing to the program despite the risks. And how cruel is it, to deny a brother the chance to see his sick little sister in the hospital? To take that chance to say goodbye away?)

And now, after that apparent betrayal at the end of episode seven, she probably thinks she has actual proof. In that moment, in her eyes at least, Joe chose his friends over her, over the hybrids, over Nibs, the person that Marcy views as her younger sister, and I'm really worried that's going to exacerbate that sense of abandonment she has. Joe didn't show up when she was in the hospital and scared and dying and needed him, and now Joe didn't have her back when she needed him, in the same way that none of the adults had Isaac's back or Nibs's back.

But you know what did come to her the moment she called it? What came and helped her immediately whenever she needed it?

The xenomorph.

And if in her mind she can’t trust Joe, her own brother, someone who’s nice, then she probably thinks that she can’t trust humans at all anymore.

Really curious to find out who, if anyone, gets the eyeball tonight. I figure it’s between Joe, Dame Sylvia, and Kavalier. Though it being Joe would depend entirely on how Kavalier feels about Marcy now that he knows she can control the xenomorph and is willing to get it to attack others. Is he still gonna want to use her to talk to the xenomorphs? Is he going to care that much now that he has a way to communicate to an alien that doesn’t involve her? And I can see him using Joe and telling Marcy it’s punishment for trying to leave, but that if she does what he tells her to from now on, he might eventually take the eyeball out and she can have her brother back.

But it being Sylvia would be a neat callback to that earlier scene between Sylvia and Kavalier, when he told her he was doing all this because he wanted to talk to someone smarter than him and that she wasn’t it.

Though if it does end up being Joe, I need him to be the most annoying host body that alien has ever had the misfortune of taking over. Trying to meticulously plot someone’s death? Have a bunch of random baseball facts instead. Or how about 24/7, 365 nonstop Ice Age 4. Time for the eyeball to meet Earth’s real monster, Sid the Sloth
