ok i always thought it was super likely that henry actually knows quite a bit of spanish because of his royal education so here’s some cute firstprince headcanons:
among a couple other languages, henry chose to learn spanish at 9 years old because of its general practicality and also because he just liked the way it sounded
he loves the way it sounds the most when alex speaks it though
the first time henry spoke to alex in spanish was at thanksgiving dinner a few weeks after the election
alex and oscar are laughing and teasing each other in spanish but then the topic of conversation turns to henry
“so how have things been going between you two?”
“really, really good. i can’t wait to move in with him”
“that’s great, i’m happy for you both. have you thought about getting a ring?”
and alex looks completely shocked but is about to reply
until henry goes, “yeah, answer the question, love”
and suddenly all the conversation stops and everyone’s heads immediately turn to him because oh my god he understood that whole conversation
alex just goes “nope, nope, nope. not doing this right now.” and they all laugh and drop the topic
later that night though alex questions him about it and henry tells him about all his formal education in (castilian) spanish
and alex makes fun of his accent a bit but they spend the night just talking about nothing and everything in spanish until they both fall asleep
after that it becomes kind of a thing that on phone calls (i hc that they probably don’t actually move in together until after the new year because of logistical stuff and the holidays) they’ll pepper in some spanish
like randomly interspersed “te amo”s or little phrases of endearment
and they always end the call in spanish too
also when pez is around they’ll flirt or just say anything in spanish just to annoy him
“are you guys talking about me? you’re definitely talking about me. what did i dooo?? guysss”
and to each other they’ll just be like “so that snl skit last night was pretty funny” “yep definitely better than what they’ve been doing i think it’s that new cast member”
also when henry and june are together they talk to each other exclusively in spanish, just because
it makes henry feel closer to her and like she’s an actual sister to him
when alex and henry finally move in together they sort of gradually fall into the habit of speaking in some version of spanglish throughout the house
one person will say something in english and the other will respond in spanish or vice versa
randomly interspersed spanish words when they’re speaking english and randomly interspersed english words when they’re speaking spanish
david becomes really accustomed to it too and eventually starts responding to commands in spanish
alex also takes to calling him “mierdito” which exasperates henry to no end (“you’re demeaning a member of the royal family, i could have you executed for that!” “i don’t think that’s how it works mi amor”)
and when alex spends hours upon hours studying and his brain is swimming with law terms so much that he can’t pull himself out of that hole, henry will pull him to the couch and talk to him in spanish so that alex doesn’t even have to think in the same language anymore and he can finally just calm down
alex speaks in very rapid and unfiltered spanish either when he’s feeling particularly in love with henry or particularly annoyed at him, there’s no in between
henry doesn’t always catch all of it when alex gets like that but he finds it very attractive
they talk to each other in spanglish when they’re in public and especially when there’s cameras to make it harder for people to lip read them
and a couple years down the line, when henry proposes to alex in spanish alex responds with a resound “claro que si, siempre”
before their insanely publicized ~royal wedding~ they have a little private ceremony at the texas house with just their families and close friends and they’ve both written about half of their vows in spanish
the vows they give in public are much shorter and much less personal, but they each keep a couple of the spanish lines because they know what that would mean to the world
and when they have kids they obviously raise them with both english and spanish
