“I saw many great moments throughout the year. There were the little kids who came into the dressing room frozen with excitement about meeting Sidney. He often fetched those kids a stick. He gravitated towards kids in a mob of autograph seekers, signing until the were all happy or he had to go get on a bus, whichever came first. He was always the last guy to leave the dressing room after games but also practices. He would sit in his stall, often in his sweaty equipment, talking to reporters and the team broadcasters and his teammates. He just liked hanging out in the dressing room. He wore the same hockey pants the whole season, and near the end, when they had ripped and been stitched and trainer Steve Latin was teasing him, he slumped in his locker with an almost drunken smile. “I don’t want to take off my equipment,” he said with a giggle. “Just take me home like this.” Sidney Crosby might have been a hockey star, but at heart he was a rink rat.”
