Putting yaoi in Tomodachi Life.

In preparation for the upcoming release of Tomodachi Life Livin’ the Dream I’m redesigning a bunch of my ocs who I’m planning to put on my island. So far I’ve only gotten 4 of them done because I’ve been busy af but it’s not like I’m planning to put all of them on my island at once.

Anyways, first up Is Jaimie.

His design is mostly the same. His clothes mostly stayed the same with only some length and color changes. His face got a slight redesign. I made it rounder but gave him bushier eyebrows and a more stern look. I really didn’t feel like he needed a major redesign, he’s not particularly fashion conscious but likes combat boots and leather.

Next Up: Leo

Leo was the first major redesign. I’m not great at styling men, but I really wanted to get out of my comfort zone and create a design that says something about Leo’s character. It all started with his haircut. Again I’m not great with designing guys but I wanted a really unique haircut that expressed Leo outside of his colorful hair. And after scrolling thru Pinterest for like 30 minutes I finally found a haircut that I liked and felt suited Leo. It felt like this style really supported the combination of his natural, bleached, and dyed hair.

The outfit on the other hand felt like it came much more naturally. Honestly all I did was steal some elements from Jaimie’s old design. The ripped clothing specifically the pants, and the cool hues were big inspirations. I also decided some accessories were needed. Leo is the type to go all out. He’s very much a maximalist in the way he dresses and acts. There wasn’t any inspiration for the patches or suspenders. I just felt like he needed more color throughout the design.

Next: Serena

Serena is probably my favorite of these redesigns. After looking at her old design I had an idea of where I wanted to go with the new one. Something with fishnets. The first thing that came to mind was grunge. Now correct me if I’m wrong about any of what I say, as I’m not familiar with style or its sub culture. I looked up a bunch of refs on Pinterest of course and eventually came up with this outfit. It ended taking me a while to finish this design cause I spent so much time making fishnet brushes. lol.

You probably noticed the space theme in these drawings, that is for a very special but secret reason. Anyway I had a lot of fun adding a bunch of little space motifs throughout. I think they’re all super cute especially the Sailor Moon type hair with the rings around the buns.

Final: Maddison

Maddison probably has the biggest difference between her old design and new one. I can’t really say why I decided to give her such a drastic redesign, but I feel like it is in line with the type of character she is. And it’s also become very important to me that my characters all have their very own styles.

I’m not really used to drawing gothic styles, I had a bit of tough time finding what I wanted. I’m happy with the result though. Thank god for Pinterest!

this is my first year on artfight, and while i didn't make an astounding number of attacks, i am very happy with most of these pieces. a lot of them have flaws, esp in coloring, and i think that goes to show i'm getting comfortable with not having perfect pieces; a year ago i would've scribbled them out and gave up. also very nice to see watercolor become my main medium :)
