Snape being too poor to buy an owl so he just had a pigeon instead.

It’s the only one he had so it bonded with him and follows him around sometimes, since it’s small and quiet he just keeps it in the hood of his cloak.

It takes any stems from herbs Snape doesn’t need and ripped parchment to build nests in.

Purebloods confused as all hell how a muggle animal can be iridescent. They just can’t wrap their head around this small creature while half and muggle borns are like “that’s gross.”

All his friends and professors are shocked to see Severus write to them a response so quickly, it just turns out his pigeon is faster than any owl. Most of his letters are singular words too. Mainly “No.”

Now after being retired the pigeon is just a pet he has well into his later years as the life span can go over 30 years.
