I really am amused by Toby Fox's meta message in Deltarune Chapter 5.
The flowers are real. They have souls. They have hopes and dreams. They are people; they're just flower-shaped.
Susie's reality is the Dark World. It's where she lives. It's where her friends are. It's her home.
Toby Fox interacts with his fandom in a curious way. He sees what we post about his games. He listens to feedback, even if he doesn't respond directly/individually. He adds our ideas into his games sometimes. He makes memes about our favorite characters for us. He is so happy to play blorbos with us. He's a real person, and those are real interactions.
The fandom, although centered around something imaginary, is real. The friends you make through experiencing the games together are real. The (fan)art you create and your feelings about them are real.
How deep does the rabbit hole go? As deep as you want it to. The ideas and messages in the games are as real as you want them to be.
